(p. 2) aṅkaṇamu ankanamu. [Tel. related to అంగ and అడుగు, the foot; borrowed by Skt. from Dravidian languages. Cf. Kittel and Gundert.] n. The act of branding or marking. Intercolumniation. అక్క
(p. 19) akka akka. [Tel. a Dravidian word borrowed by Sanskrit, where it is used in the sense of mother. cf. Lat. acca] n. An elder sister. అక్కచెల్లెళ్లు elder and younger sisters. పెద్దక్క the eldest sister. Any woman older than oneself is usually styled అక్క elder sister, or అమ్మ mother, madam: and any man older than onself is usually styled అస్న elder brother, or, అయ్య father, sir. పంటలక్క a cook or kitchen maid. See అక్కలవాడ.

ఆళ్వారు
(p. 126) āḷvāru āḷvāru. [Drav.] n. A Vaishnava name for a saint. The Alwars or saints were twelve in number and are considerd to have been incarnations of the attendants, arms, or insignia of Vishnu: each of them wrote a portion of the 'Dravida Prabandham,' or 'Tamil Veda' help in greater veneration that the original Sanskrit Veda, of which it is, in fact, an ancient Tamil translation (Ellis.) The పరమయోగివిలాసము is a history of these personages. A hawk is sometimes called గరుడాళ్వారు.

A name of Parvati; lit. Daughter of a Mountain. కొండత్రిమ్మరి konḍa-trimmari. n. (Lit. a hill-rover.) A monkey. కోతి. కొండనాలుక konḍa-nāluka. n. The uvula. చిరునాలుక. కొండపసుల konḍa-pasula-pōligāḍu. (F.B.I.) కొండవలిగాలి konḍa-vāli-gāli. n. A sharp cold wind. కొండవీటి చేంతాడు an immensely long rope, as long as a well-rope in Kondavidu near Guntur. కొండశిల n konḍa-ṣila. A rock snake, or boa.
కొమరు
(p. 320) komaru komaru. [Tel.] n. Youth, youthfulness, bloom, beauty, loveliness. మనోజ్ఞత. Manner, way. adv. Beautiful, handsome. అందమైన. కొమరుమిగుల gracefully., కొమరార finely. కొమరారు komar-āru. v. n. To bloom. కొమరాలు komar-ālu. n. A young woman యౌవనస్త్రీ కొమరితనము or కొమరుపాయము youth. యౌవనము. కొమరుడు or కొమారుడు komarudu. n. A son. కొడుకు. కొమరులు or కొమరకొయ్యలు komarulu. n. Bressumers or Brest summers, that is, forked pieces of wood used in buildings. ఇంటి వెన్ను పట్టెకిందికురుంజులు, మేలు దూలముమీది గు౛్జులు. కొమర్తె or కొమారి komārte. n. A daughter. పెండ్లికొమార్తె a bride. [The Skt. కుమారుడు+కుమారి are apparently derived from this Dravidian root.]
గ్రామము
(p. 398) grāmamu grāmamu. [Skt.] n. A village. ఊరు. A scale in music. షడ్జాదిస్వరము. గ్రామత్రయము the three tones, treble, tenor and base. A crowd or multitude సమూహము. as గుణగ్రామము or శబ్దగ్రామము. గ్రామకార్యము grāma-kāryamu. n. Village affairs: worldly matters. గ్రామకంఠము grāma-kanṭhamu. n. The glebe, or pasture land appertaining to a village. గ్రామణి grāmaṇi. n. A chief: a head man. గ్రామాధిపతి. గ్రామణి adj. Chief, head, leading. ముఖ్యుడు నరగ్రామణి, the noblest of men. దుర్గ్రామణి a wicked ruler. గ్రామణ్యము grāmanyamu. n. The rule or headship of a town. Imperiousness, violence, outrage. గ్రామణ్యముగా scoffingly. గ్రామదేవత grāma-dēvata. n. A village god or goddess. These are the original Dravidian deities. Among them the male deities are chiefly these: పోతురాజు, కాట్రేడు, అంకాళు, గంగయ, చెన్నడు and మైలారు. The principal village goddesses are పెద్దమ్మ, కాట్రేణి, అంకాళమ్మ, ఎక్కళమ్మ, ఎల్లమ్మ, మల్లమ్మ, మామిళ్లమ్మ, మైసమ్మ or మైసూరమ్మ, (i. e. మహిషీ.) మారియమ్మ, మారెమ్మ (who probably is meant for 'Maria') యాగాతమ్మ (that is, Saint Agatha,) and సుంకలమ్మ or సుంకెళమ్మ, of whom one inflicts the cholera, another the small pox (see అమ్మవారు) another murrain, another blight. None have any beneficent powers, and they are worshipped to avert their displeasure. గ్రామసింహము grāma-simhamu. n. The lion of the village, i.e., a dog. గ్రామస్థుడు grāma-sthuḍu. n. A villager. స్వగ్రామస్థుడు a fellow citizen or neighbour. గ్రామాంతము grām-āntamu. n. The outlying portion of a village, i.e. the Panchama quarter. మాలపల్లె. గ్రామాదులు grām-ādulu. n. Villages. Lit. Villages, &c. గ్రామ్యము grāmyamu. adj. Village-born; produced in or relating to a village. Vulgar, rude, rustic. Common, colloquial, unclassical, inelegant: The opposite of శాస్త్రీయము. In Grammar the term is applied to conversational forms as వస్తాడు, తెస్తాడు, like they're, I'm, you're, he's, in English, which are supposed to be in admissible in literature, though they occur in all even the best poets. గ్రామ్యధర్మము grāmya-dharmamu. n. Sexual intercourse. సంభోగము. Lit. what is usual or the fashion, or way of the world.

(p. 518) tavida or తవ్విద tavida. [Tel.] n. The grain called Ragi. రాగిపైరు.
తెనుగు
(p. 547) tenugu or తెనుంగు tenugu. [Tel. from Dravidian root తెన్ = south. Lit: the language of the south.] n. The Tenugu or Telugu language. అయిదు విధాల తెనుగులు ఉన్నవి there are five species of Telugu. M. I. i. 20. తెనిగించు or తెనుగించు teniginṭsu. v. a. To translate into Telugu. Sec తెలుగు.
ద్రావిడ
(p. 616) drāviḍa drāviḍa. [Tam.] adj. Dravida; a name usually applied to Tamil. ద్రావిడ దేశము the Tamil country. ద్రావిడులు or ద్రావిళ్లు the Tamil people. As a collective term పంచద్రావిడములు the 'Five-fold Dravida' denotes what the English call the South Indian Languages, i.e., Canarese, Tamil, Telugu, Guzerati and Mahratta. RKD. gives the list, thus: Dravida, Carnata, Gujarāta, Mahārāshta, and Tēlangah. See Caldwell.
పంచ
(p. 687) pañca pancha. [Skt.] adj. Five. పమచకము panchakamu. n. A set of five things, as of epigrams. భ్రమరపంచకము a set of five epigrams on a bee. యుద్ధ పంచకము the five books of the Mahabharata (VI. X.) which deal with the battle. A battlefield, యుద్ధభూమి. పంచకళ్యాణి pancha-kaḷyāṇi. n. Black or any other colour with white points; piebald; a horse with a white mark or star in the face and with white legs. పంచకోణము or పంచకోణికోణము pancha-kōṇamu. n. A pentagon. See రోణము పంచగవ్యము pancha-garyamu. n. The five articles derived from the cow, viz.: milk, curds, butter, urine, and dung. పంచగౌడులు panchagaudulu. n. The collective name for the Brahmins of Bengal and the northern provinces. పంచత్వము panchatvamu. n. Death, dying, as being the dissolution of the five elements. పంచజనుడు panchajanuḍu. n. Man in general. మర్త్యుడు. See పాంచజన్యము. పంచజనచర్వణము cannibalism, eating human flesh. A. vi. 70. పంచదళము pancha-daṣamu. adj. Fifteenth. పంచదశకము pancha-daṣakamu. n. Fifteen. పంచదశి pancha-daṣi. n. The fifteenth lunar day, of either the dark or bright fortnight. పౌర్ణిమ, లేక, అమావాస్య. పంచద్రావిదులు The five divisions of the Dravida races, viz. Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kanarese and Mahrati. పంచనఖము panchanakhamu. n. Lit: 'Five clawed,' i.e., a tiger. పులి. పంచనఖి pancha-nakhi. n. An iguana. ఉడుము. పంచపాత్రము pancha-pātramu. n. The 'five dishes:' a phrase used for five cups used in worship. Also, a sort of cup. పంచప్రాణములు pancha-prāṇamulu. n. The five vital airs of the body. Life. పంచభూతములు the five elements. పంచబాణుడు, పంచశరుడు or పంచసాయకుడు pancha-bāṇuḍu. n. Manmadha the god of love, so named from his five arrows. These are five fragrant flowers, viz., the అరవిందము or lotus, the అశోకము Jonesia asōka, the చూతము or mango blossom, the నవమల్లిక or Arabian jasmine, and the నీలోత్పలము or blue lotus; these are emblems of five passions denominated ద్రావిణి, శోషిణి, బంధిని, మోహిని and ఉన్మాదిని, that is, flurry, pinning, enslaving, bewitching and maddening. పంచభక్ష్యములు five sorts of cakes. పంచమము panchamamu. n. A tenor note, similar to that of the cook when crowing; also, a note like that of the linnet or cuckoo. The musical treble. The two notes పంచమము and షడ్జము are called the నిత్యస్వరములు or constant (pervading) notes: they are also called స్వయంభుస్వరములు the supreme sounds. adj. Fifth , అయిదవది. Fine, melodious, ఇంపైన. పంచమస్థితి panchama-sthiti. n. The being a Pariah. The Pariah state or condition. పంచమి panchami. n. Five streaks. అయిదు చారలు. పంచవన్నెలు pancha-vannelu. n. Five colours. పంచవన్నెలరామచిలుక pancha-vannclarāma-chiluka. n. A paroquet. పంచశాఖము pancha-ṣākhamu. n. The hand. చెయ్యి. పంచాంగము panch-āngamu. n. An almanac, as specifying five different things, viz., the lunar day (తిథి), the day of the week (వారము), the sign in which the moon is (నక్షత్రము), the conjuction of the planets shewing good and bad days (యోగము), and the horoscopes (కరణము). పంచాంగాముప్పు to give a forecast of the day; to tell lies or false stories. పంచాణము panchāṇamu. n. The united five castes of the carpenter, blacksmith, brazier, goldsmith, and stonecutter. పంచాణులు panchāṇulu. n. Workmen, mechanics, or handicraftsmen, పంచాణమువారు. పంచామృతము a meat and drink offering formed of cocoanut kernels, plantains, sugar, honey, and ghee. పంచాయతి panchāyati. n. A court of arbitrators consisting of 'five members.' A Panchayat, an arbitration court. పంచాయతిదారులు arbitrators referees. పంచాయుధము the 'five weapons' of Vishṇu: also as amulet, being a plate of gold on which these are engraven. విష్ణువుయొక్క అయిదు ఆయుధములు, మరిన్ని ఆ అయిదు ఆయుధములయొక్క రూపులు చెక్కించిన పతకపుబిళ్ల. పంచారూఢిపత్రము a bond duly executed, i.e., bearing 'five names' viz., those of the lender, the borrower, the writer, and two witnesses. పంచాస్యుడు, పంచావనుడు or పంచముఖుడు panch-āsyuḍu. n. 'The five faced;' an epithet of Siva. పంచాక్షరి panch-ākshari. n. The 'five syllables.' that is, a certain spell or holy name 'నమశ్శివాయ' Na-mas-Si-vā-ya or 'Salutation to Siva,' similar to the five syllables 'A-ve-Ma-ri-a.' పంచేంద్రియములు panch-ēndriyamulu. n. The five senses or organs. 'సీ మేనిలోగర్ణనాసానేత్రజిహ్వత్వగాహ్వయ పంచేంద్రియములగోష్ఠి.' G. v. 13. పంచేంద్రియబద్ధుడైన panch-ēndriya-baddhuḍ-aina. adj. Carnal, sensual, worldly, given up to one's lusts.
పడమర
(p. 699) paḍamara paḍamara. [Tel Dravidian root పడుమ్ falling+ఇటాయిరు sun.] n. Lit: The side in which the sun sets. The West. తూర్పుపడమరలు East and West. తూర్పు పడమరలు paḍamaṭi. adj. Western. పడమటిగాలి the West wind. పడమటిల్లు the Western apartment, i.e., the cook-room or the dining room. పడమటికొండ paḍamaṭi-konḍa. n. Lit: The Western hill (behind which the sun is supposed to set.) అస్తాద్రి. పడమటిదొర the lord of the West, i.e., Varuna.
