(p. 7) añjanamu anjanamu. [Skt.] n. Lamp-black, collyrium, eyesalve, the magic ointment used for the purpose of discovering anything that is concealed. కాటుక. అంజనకాడు a conjurer, he who finds that which is concealed by putting this ointment on his hand or on his eyelashes. అంజనమువేసి చూచు to search for hidden things.

(p. 7) añjanarāyi anjana-rāyi. [Skt. అంజనము+Tel. రాయి] n. Antimonium or black antimony. (Watts.)

(p. 23) agaru agaru. [Skt.] n. A kind of sweet scented wood; a superior kind of sandal. విశేషమైన పరిమళముగలిగి యెర్రదాళుగానుండే గంధపుచెక్క Agallochum, Amyris Calambac, Aquilaria, Aloe-wood or Eagle-wood. (Watts). కథష్ణాగరు or కాలాగరు the black species.

(p. 24) agise or అగిశ or అవిసెచెట్టు agise. [Tel.] n. Common flax, or lint. Linum usitatissimum; also, a leguminous tree. (Coronilla grandiflora or Ӕschynomene grandiflora, planted as a support for the betel vine.) అడివి అవిసె Kauchinia parviflora. అగిసె కూర its leaves which are dressed and eaten. ఉమ, అనగా, నూనె తీసే అవిశవిత్తులు అవిసె నూనె linseed oil. సీమ అవిసె broad leaved Cassia. (Ainslie.) నల్ల అవిసె black flax. See అవిసె.

(p. 110) ācariñcu ācharinṭsu. [Skt.] v. a. To practise, to observe, to be used to, to do habitually. To put in practice (the precepts of religion), to perform (bathing, &c.) To celebrate (a religious festival.) ఆచరణము ācharaṇamu. n. Doing, performing. ఆచారము, నడత. ఆచారము ācharamu. n. Practice, custom. Rule, fashion, mode, a course of conduct, institute or observance, Religious observance. మతాచారముచొప్పున according to the principles of the creed. ఆచారి āchari. n. A caste title borne by the Vaishnavite Brahmins, the men of the blacksmith and goldsmith castes. సదాచారి a man of good principles. ఆచార్యత్వము āchāryatvamu. n. The office of a priest. ఆచార్యుడు āchāryuḍu. n. A teacher. A priest: a spiritual guide or preceptor: one who invests the student with the sacrificial thread and instructs him in the mysteries of the religion.

(p. 126) āva āva. [Tel.] n. A flat or marsh glebe, low ground. A lake. Mustard seed. Recollection. ఆవపారు āvā-pāru. [Tel.] v. i. Ainslie 1. 420.) found in the hollows of the bamboo. కప్పురంబు పెట్టి ఉప్పు కొనుట. (A. vi. 75.) To give camphor for salt, that is, what is valuable for what is worthless. ఉప్పుకండ uppu-kaṇḍa. n. Dried flesh, salt meat. ఉప్పుకాయ uppu-kāya. n. Salted fruit, pickle. ఉప్పు కాపడమిచ్చు to foment with heated salt. ఉప్పుకల్లు or ఉప్పురాయి a grain of salt. ఉప్పుచేప uppu-chēpa. n. A salted fish. ఉప్పుటేరు uppu-t-ēru. n. A salt stream. ఉప్పుపర్ర uppu-parra. n. Salt marsh. పర్ర ఊప్వ salt which effloresces on marshy places. బూడిదె ఉప్పు. ఉప్పుమడి uppu-maḍi. n. A salt pen, salt-bed. ఉప్పు మిడత uppu-miḍata. n. A kind of large black cricket. ఉప్పు రేవు uppu-rēvu. n. A place where salt is manufactured: ఉప్పురియు upp-uriyu. v. i. To moulder. ఉప్పురిసిపోయిన mouldering, dilapidated. కప్పురిసిన యిల్లు a house that sweats salt or that is going to decay. ఉప్పు సముద్రము uppu-samudramu. n. The ocean or salt sea.

(p. 198) ēḍa or ఏదచెట్టు ēda. [Tel.] n. A certain creeper. ఏదాడంటే కోదాడంటాడు (proverb) If I say white he says black.

(p. 197) ēṇamu or ఏణి ēṇamu. [Skt.] n. A gazelle or black antelope. పెద్దకన్నులు గల నల్లయిర్రి. ఏణనయన ēṇa-nayana. adj. Stag-eyed, dark-eyed. ఏణాంకుడు ēṇ-ānkuḍu. n. The Moon, because his ensign is an antelope. శశాంకుడు. ఏణాక్షి ēṇ-ākshi. adj. Stag-eyed, gazelle-eyed, having beautiful eyes.

(p. 203) aiddāyulu aid-dāyulu. [Tel. for అయిదుదాయులు] n. The 'five anvils:' i.e., the five trades, viz., those of a carpenter, a blacksmith, a goldsmith, a brasssmith, and a stonemason.
