(p. 649) nikrēpamu nikshēpamu. [Skt.] n. A buried treasure; a treasure, a deposit, a pledge. నిధి. నిక్షేపించు nikshēpinṭsu. v. a. To hide, bury under ground, lay up, store up. పాతు, పూడ్చు, దాచు.

Added to nouns it forms them into verbs. సమ్మతిపడు to agree. సంతోషపడు to be pleased. సంతాపపడు to feel sorry. చింతపడు to be anxious. తిట్లుపడు to be reviled. తొందరపడు to be in distress. భయపడు to fear. మానుపడు to be stunned. వానికి నక్కిళ్లు పడినవి he has the lockjaw. It may be added in a similar way to past participles. ఉలికిపడు to start. తూగిపడు to slumber. It is also added to adjectives or verbs. ఎర్రపడు to redden, blush or turn red. వేరుపడు to be separated. ఏర్పడు to become. It may even be added to an interjection, కటకటపడు to cry Alas, to pity. తహతహపడు to be in trouble. ఆ యిల్లు పడినది that house is fallen in. ఆ వలలో నాలుగు పక్షులు పడినవి four birds were caught in the snare. అక్కడ ఒక పల్లము పడినది a hollow has formed there. ఆ యుద్ధములో నలుగురు పడినారు or పడిపోయినాడు four persons were killed in the battle. వానికి బంకపడుచున్నది he passes slime or mucus. వానికి పురుగులు పడినవి he passed worms. వానికి కుడిచెయ్యి పడినది his right hand has become paralysed. వారు వెనుకపడినారు they fell back, they retired. ఆ మతములో పడినాడు he embraced that religion. పేరుపడన renowned, celebrated, notorious. తటస్థపడినప్పుడు when an opportunity occurs. మరుగుపడినారు they went out of sight. నాకు వచ్చిన ఆపదకు వాడు అడ్డపడినాడు he stood in the way of the misfortune that happened to me. వారిద్దరికిని పడదు they do not agree, they are on bad terms. దానినోటిలో పడకుము do not put it in her power to abuse you. ఆ బావిలో మంచినీళ్లు పడినవి sweet water broke forth in the well. వానితో పడలేను I cannot get on with him. నాకు ఇప్పుడు పోవడము పడదు I cannot go now. ఇంకా విత్తనము పడలేదు the seed is not yet sown. ఆ చేనిలో అడ్డముగా పడి వారిపోయినాడు he ran away across the field. ఆ యిల్లు ఊరికె పడియున్నది that house is unoccupied. ఆ రూకలు ఊరిక పడియున్నవి that money is untouched, it is lying idle. ఆ సంసారము నా నెత్తిని పడినది that family is now left on my hands. ఆ నష్టము నా తలమిద పడినది I incurred that loss. Added to the root in A it forms the passive voice, thus కొట్టపడు to be beaten; చూడబడు to be seen. It is added at pleasure to some adverbs, thus బోర్లపడిన prostrate. తలక్రిందులుపడు to be topsy turvy, upside down, to be conceited. అది బయటపడినది it came to light. The causal form is పరుచు or పరచు. తొందరపరచు to trouble, torment. పడగొట్టు paḍa-goṭṭu. v. a. To knock down. పడదన్ను paḍa-dannu. v. a. To kick down. పడదొక్కు paḍa-lokku. v. a. To tread down. పడదోయు paḍa-dōya. v. a. To thrust down, knock down. పడవేయు paḍa-vēyu. v. a. To cast or throw down. పడిపోవు paḍi-pōvu. v. n. To fall down, to die. ఆయన పడిపోయిన తర్వాత after his decease. పడుకొను paḍu-konu. v. n. To lie down, recline. పడువ paḍuva. n. A very low place. మిక్కిలి పల్లమైనచోటు. పడువరి paḍu-vari. (పడు+వరి.) n. A crop or sprouts produced by seeds of paddy, that fall by chance as the crops are cut. పడ్డ paḍḍa. [contr. for పడిన.] pp. Fallen, &c., thus, పిలువబడ్డవాడు the man who was called. ఉంచబడ్డవాడు he who was kept there.

(p. 779) pūḍu pūḍu. [Tel.] v. n. To be filled or closed up: to fall in, as a well or pit. బావి పూడిపోయినది the well has fallen in. కాలువ పూడిపోయినది the canal is filled up with earth. ఎముకలు పూడిపోయినవి the bones are covered with flesh పూడుపాము pūḍu-pāmu. n. A small, fierce and venomous snake called the cobra maurilla. మట్టిలో పూరియుండుపాము. పూడుపు or పూడ్పు. n. Burying, పూడ్చుట. Buried treasure. నిక్షేపము. పూడ్చు pūḍṭsu. (Madras Telugu for పోయివిడుచు.) v. n. To go పోవు. పూడిపించు or పూడ్పించు pūḍipiṇṭsu. v. a. To cause to be buried or filled up. పూడు or పూడిక pūḍu. n. The filling up, stuff, that has fallen in. పూడుచు or పూడ్చు pūḍuṭsu. v. a. To fill up, to close, as a pit with earth, to inter or bury, to conceal under the ground. To plant, పాతు.

(p. 915) bruṅgu brungu. [Tel.] v. n. To be buried, పూడు. To hide, మరుగు. To sink; to die, perish. మణుగు, చచ్చు. హతమగు.' వెనురొంపిలోపల బ్రుంగిన ధేనువునెత్తుపోలికిన్.' M. IX. i. 172. 'పొగలకావిరి బ్రుంగెడు పుల్ గృహంబులు.' A. iv. 167. బ్రుంగుడు brunguḍu. adj. Hidden, concealed, మరిగిన. Sunk, మణిగిన. బ్రుంగుపడు or బ్రుంగుడుపడు brungu-paḍu. v. n. To be hidden, to be diminished, to be in reduced circumstances. మరుగుపడు, నొచ్చిపోవు, ముణిగిపోవు, మగ్నమగు. 'ఆ విభుడు రాజ్య సుఖలీలావిముఖత వెడలిబంధులం దొరగియధే, ష్టావాసత బ్రుంగుడుపడిపోవగ నెచ్చోట కడుపు బ్రోతునొయంచున్.' M. IV. i. 249. బ్రుంగుడుపాటు brunguḍu-pāṭu. n. Concealment, బ్రుంగుడుపడుట. బ్రుంచు brunṭsu. v. a. To cause to sink, to submerge, బ్రుంగజేయు. బ్రుయ్యు bruyyu. v. n. To perish, నశించు.

(p. 1081) rudruḍu rudruḍu. [Skt.] n. A name of Ṣiva. శివుడు. Also, a name given to certain lesser deities. ఏకాదశరుద్రులు. ఈశానుడు మొదలగువారు. రుద్రజడ or రుద్ర౛డ rudra-jaḍa. [from Skt. రుద్రజట.] n. A cemetery or place where the dead are burnt or buried. శ్మశానము, ఒలికిమిట్ట. రుద్రవీణె or రుద్రి rudra-vīṇe. n. A sort of lute. వీనావిశేషము. 'నీళ్లగిండియుగాజునిలువుటద్దమురుద్ర వీణెకిన్నెరవట్టి వేళ్లసురటి.' Surabh. 102. రుద్రాణి rudr-āṇi. n. The wife of Rudra, i.e., the name of Durga or Pārvati. పార్వతి, రుద్రునిభార్య. రుద్రాక్షము rudr-ākshamu. n. The tree termed Elœocarpus ganitrus, the seeds of which named రుద్రాక్షలు are much used for rosaries, by the Savities. రుద్రాక్షపిల్లి a hypocrite, lit. a cat with a rosary in her hand.

(p. 1260) śmaśānamu, śmaśānabhūmi or శ్మశానవాటిక ṣmaṣānamu. [Skt.] n. A cemetery, a place where corpses are burnt or buried. వల్లకాడు. ఒలికిమిట్ట. శ్మశానవైరాగ్యము. 'Cemetery-seriousness:' the brief impression made on the mind by the sight of a cemetery.

Fixing, erecting, placing, establishing, founding, setting up. స్థాపించుట, ప్రతిష్ఠ చేయడము, నిలుపడము, ఏర్పరచడము, నాటడము. భూస్థాపనము burial.
