(p. 17) ambāḷamu or అంబాళవృక్షము ambālamu. [Tel.] The hog-plum (Spondias mangifera). the fruit resembling the mango. నోరు అంబాళపుపండు చెయ్యి బలుసుముల్లు your mouth is like a sweet plum and your hand is like a thornbush. (Carr).

(p. 56) anupu anupu. [Tel.] n. Toll, customs; ambuscade, ambush, సుంకము. పొంచియుండే చోటు. 'తెరవలిటునీరు పోయ పందిలియు జేరి, యవలగొర గాక పిచ్చుకుంటైయనంగు, డనువుగొనజొచ్చె కల్లగుట్టమర.' A. ii. 69. టీ సుంకము పుచ్చుకోనుపక్రమించెను. అనుపు v. a. To send, dismiss. పంపించు. 'నన్ననువుగాధల చేతనెప్రొద్దు ద్రోయకన్.' H. i. 42.

(p. 108) āku āku. [Tel.] n. A leaf of any sort. A petal. పత్రము, దళము. A betel, or palmyra leaf; also the leaf on which the Hindus eat their food. విస్తరాకు An ear-ring. చెవి కమ్మ. Young rice (paddy) not yet transplanted. Any herb: young sprouts of corn. A flake as ఆకు ఉప్పు a flake of salt. Any filament. The radius or spoke of a wheel. The shutter of a blind. ఆకులతలుపు a venetian door. Also, a chit, note or short letter. చీటి; a loan bond. ఇచ్చిపుచ్చుకోలు పత్రము. This word prefixed to others generally denotes green; as ఆకుతేలు a green scorpion, and ఆకుమిడత a green cricket. ఆడంగులకంటె మగవారు ఏడాకులు ఎక్కువ చదివినారు men have read seven pages further than women; that is, men are tenfold worse than women; or, are their masters in wickedness. నీ పేరు ఆకునపోకన అంటకుండా చెప్పుతాను. I shall mention (or use) your name with great caution. ఆకు అలము āku-alamu. n. Greens, herbs, vegetables. (The word అలము here has no definite sense.) ఆకుకూరలు or కూరాకులు āku-kūralu. n. Potherbs, garden stuff. ఆకు చాటున āku-ṭsāṭana. adj. In ambush, hidden, veiled, screened. ఆకుచిరుతపులి āku-chiruta-puli. n. A small species of leopard. ఆకుచిలక āku-chilaka. n. A butterfly, or a green parrot. ఆకుజెముడు āku-jemuḍu. n. The oleander-leaved spurge. Emphorbia Neriifolia. (See జెముడు.) ఆకుటిల్లు āku-ṭillu. n. A booth or hut of leaves, an arbor of leaves. ఆకుటింట in a booth. ఆకుతీగ the vine that produces the tamala (or betel) leaf. ఆకు తోట a betel garden: a garden in which plants are reared. ఆకుపచ్చ āku-paṭṭsa. n. The colour called sap green. ఆకుపత్రి చెట్టు āku-pattri-cheṭṭu. n. The clove tree. Cassia lignea. a certain game. (H. iii. 190). āka-rarugu. n. A green caterpillar. ఆకుపోత āku-pōta. n. Transplantation of a green crop. ఆకుపోయు āku-pōyu. v. a. To transplant corn. To set the sprouts. ఆకుమడి āku-maḍi. n. A field sown, but the sprouts of which are to be transplanted. (also, called నారుమడి.) ఆకుమడుపు āku-maḍupu. n. A roll of betel leaf. A mode of measurement. ఆకు మొలకాకు The self planting herb. ఆకురాయి āku-rāyi. n. A file (i.e., ఆకు a filament రాయు to rub off.) Also the name of a bird, the cuckoo (F.B.I.) బలుపాకురాయి or ముల్లాకురాయి (from ముల్లు a thorn) a rasp. కత్తి ఆకురాయి a sharp thin file for cutting combs. కమ్మి ఆకురాయి a very small file. వట్రనాకురాయి a three sided file.

(p. 138) irasa or ఇరుస irasa. [Tel.] n. A grain measure being half a తూము the Indian bushel. రెండు కుంచాలు, అరతూము.

(p. 138) iru iru. [Tel. cognate with రెండు.] adj. Two, both. ఇరుకెలకులు or ఇరుగడ both sides. ఇరుగోరు both shares, the whole, the gross crop. ఇరుచక్కి both sides. ఇరుచాళ్లదుక్కి a second ploughing. ఇరుతిగ or ఇత్తిగ six at dice: ఇరుతూము or ఇద్దుము two bushels. See తూము. ఇరుదెసల on both sides. ఇరునాలుగు twice four. ఇరువది or అరువై or అరవై twice ten. అరు on both sides, from side to side. ఇరువురు or ఇరుగురు both persons.

(p. 145) īrami or ఈరము īrami. [Tel.] n. A bush, clump, bower. పొద, పొదరిల్లు, ఆ యీరమిమరుంగున behind the bush. ఈరమి or ఈరము īrami. adj. Thick. తరుచైన. దట్టమైన, సాంద్రమైన.

(p. 146) īṣika īshika. [Skt.] n. A reed for writing, a painter's bush, a pencil. The eyeball of an elephant.

(p. 148) uṇḍrakampa uṇḍra-kampa. [Tel.] n. A bush with thorns.

(p. 173) ūca ūṭsa. [Tel.] n. The soft core of the plantain or similar tree. బొందె. A thorn bush. ముండ్ల దుబ్బ. ఉచకోతగా గొంతుకోసి వేసినాడు he cut the throat without any trouble. ఊచ ūṭsa. adj. Withered. ఊదకాలు a withered leg. ఊచచెయ్యి a withered hand. ఊచపట్టు to grow big enough for the core in a plant to form. ఊచపోవు to become lean. కృశించు. ఊచబియ్యము ūṭsa-biyyamu. n. Grain not quite ripe. బాగుగా ముదరని జొన్నలు మొదలైనవి, ఊచముట్టు ūṭsa-muṭṭu. adv. To the core entirely, wholly. 'ఉల్లమంత గడంచి యూచముట్టుగను కల్లలాడించిన గలదెపన్నిదము.' H. D. i. 252.

(p. 197) ēḍdumu ēḍ-dumu. [Tel. ఏడు+తూము] n. The quantity of grain, &c., containing seven bushels or తూములు which is ciphered thus ఖం|2.

(p. 198) ēdumu ē-dumu. [Tel. ఏను+తూము] n. Five bushels అయిదు తూములు.

(p. 199) ēmaru or ఏమరిల్లు ēmaru. [Tel.] v. n. To be off one's guard. To blunder, be deceived. To fall into a trap, or overlook a fact ప్రమాదపడు. ఏమరించు ēmarinṭsu. v. t. To make one forget himself. To ensnare, delude, entrap, as in an ambush. మోసపుచ్చు. ఏమరిక or ఏమరుపాటు ēmarika. n. Oversight, heedlessness, inadvertence, ఏమరుపాటున inadvertently, suddenly. ఆకస్మాత్తుగా. ఏమరుచు or ఏమార్చు ēmaruṭsu. v. t. To trick, delude. ఏమరజేయు.

Large, great, stout, big. ఒడ్డుగుండ్లు large balls, boulders, or, fragments of rocks hurled from a hill. ఒడ్డోలగము oḍḍ-ōlagamu. (ఒడ్డు+ఓలగము) n. A great assembly. ఒడ్డుమెరక high and low, ups and downs: unevenness.

(p. 226) kampa kampa. [Tel.] n. A bush of thorns. ముళ్లమండ. కంపకోట kampa-kōṭa. n. A stockade. వెదురుతో గాని పేముతోగాని చేసిన ఆవరణము. కంపగోడ kampa-gōḍa. n. A thorn hedge. కంపజిట్ట kampa-jiṭṭa. n. A name given to a number of small birds of the warbler family (sylviidae) Blyth's Reed-Warbler, Acrocephalus dumetorum. ఎర్రకంపజిట్ట the paddy-field Warbler (Jerd) or the Paddy field Reed-Warbler, Acrocephalus agricola. పెద్దనల్లకంపజిట్ట the Eastern Orphean Warbler, Sylvia Jerdoni. చిన్న నల్లకంపజిట్ట The Indian Lesser White-throated Warbler, Sylvia affinis. అడవికంటజిట్ట or అడవికంపనల్లంచి The Indian Bush-chat, Pratincola maura. (p. 243) kannu or కను kannu. [Tel.] n. The eye. నేత్రము. Sight చూపు. An orifice, small hole or hollow రంధ్రము. The black mark in the middle of the parchment or of a drum. మద్దెల మొదలగువానిలోనుండు గుండ్రని నల్లగురుతు. A trace ౛ాడ. The bush for box in a carriage wheel బండికన్ను. An arch or a span in a bridge వంతెనద్వారము. The eye-like spot in a peacock's train నెమలిపురికన్ను. The mesh of a net వలలోని రంధ్రము. The abl. is కంట thus కంటబడు to fall into the eye, to be in view. వానికి కండ్లు అగుపడవు he cannot see కన్నుకనబడనివాడు a blind man. కండ్లు తిరిగినవి I turned giddy. పెద్దకండ్లుచేయు to look angry. కన్నులెర్ర చేసికొను to make one's eyes inflamed with wrath. కన్నుగట్టు kannu-gaṭṭu. n. Fascination, deluding. కన్నుకట్టుట to delude, or blind the eyes. కన్నుకట్టువిద్య magic,legerdemain. The art of being invisible. కన్నుగవ or కన్నుదోయి A pair of eyes. కన్నునీరు or కన్నీరు tears. కన్నుబ్రాము (R. 1. 107.) To evade, delude. కన్నుమూసినగంత a blindman's buff. కన్నుమొరగు as though blind. కన్నుమెరగు or కనుమొరగు to delude వంచించు. కన్నులారచూచు to see with one's own eyes, view distinctly. కన్నువేయు to cast an eye on, to long for ఆశించు, కన్నులమ్రాను the sugar cane చెరకు. కన్నులవిలుకాడు Cupid మన్మథుడు .
