(p. 273) kāya kāya. [Tel. from కాచు.] n. 1. A green unripe fruit. అరటికాయలు green plantains. 2. A nut, berry, pod, bulb, knob, head. 3. Anything round, as the head (తలకాయ) the bob of a plummet: a boss or round piece. 4. The word is used for a thing or article: as a piece at chess తుంటకాయ a wicked thing or creature. 5. A pimple: a wart. తవ్వడముచేత వాడిచేతులు కాయలుకాచినవి his hands are callous or hard with digging: he has a wart on his hand. 7. A bottle. రెండు కాయలను ఒకడే తీసుకొన్నాడు he alone drank two bottles. 8. As an affix it often leaves the sense unaltered: thus తల or తలకాయ the head. పిల్ల or పిల్లకాయ a child. గొంతు or గొంతుకాయ the throat. పుస్తె or పుస్తెకాయ a marriage token worn on the neck మొట్టు or మొట్టికాయ a blow or knock. ఎండ్రకాయ a crab. చెంపకాయ a slap on the cheek. Some fruits are called కాయ even though ripe, thus (from టెంకి shell) టెంకాయ a cocoanut. మిరపకాయ a chillie. ఉల్లికాయ an onion. కూరగాయలు or కాయగూరలు vegetables. కాయధాన్యములు kāya-dhānyamulu. n. Pulse: all sorts of grain contained in pods: as పెసలు, కందులు, సెనగలు, &c.

(p. 321) koraḍu koraḍu. [Tel.] n. A pair of pincers. A gleam or streak of a rainbow in the clouds, portending rain. తిన్నని యింద్రధనుస్సు. An owl గుడ్లగూబ. The stump of a tree మ్రానిమోడు. కొరడుకోల koraḍu-kōla. n. Pincers. కొరడుపారు koraḍu-pāru. v. i. To be streaked or marked with stripes. To be benumbed or become callous. తిమురుపట్టు.

(p. 673) nūgu nūgu. [Tel.] n. Soft down, downiness or hairiness, whether on plants or animals. పరాగము. Efflorescence of salt. The nap on cloth. Bloom, tenderness, లేతదనము. adj. Downy, tender, లేత. నూగు మీసములు downy moustaches. Hairy, rough. నూగువరహాలు or కరుకువరహాలు coins that are rough to the touch. నూగుదోస or నూదోస the woolly cucumber plant, కూతురుబుడమచెట్టు. నూగుబెండ a species of బెమడ (q. v.) నూగుడు nūguḍu. n. Dust, వడ్లులోనగువాని రేణువు. నూగారు. nūg-āru. n. A line of hair up from the navel to the breast. రోమరేఖ, రోమరాజి. నూనూగు nū-nūgu. n. Sprouting down, callow fledge, as of a young beard. 'నూనూగు మీసకట్టును.' Radha. i. 34.

(p. 763) puccakāya puṭsṭsa-kāya. [Tel.] n. The wild bitter melon, called Bryonia callosa, or Cucumis trigonus. కళింగము, కర్కారుకము. వెర్రిపుచ్చ the Colocynth plant, Citrullus colocynthis, Cucumis colocynthis. Rox. iii. 719. ఏటిపుచ్చకాయ the water-melon, Citrullus vulgaṛis (Watts) 'ఒజ్జలపుచ్చకాయ వితమారా.' T. iv. 214. టీ పుచ్చకాయ తినరాదనిగురువు అందరికిన్ని చెప్పి తాను తిన్నరీతి యగును.

(p. 773) pulipiri, pulpiri, pulipirikāya, pulipuli or పులిపులికాయ pulipiri. [Tel.] n. Callus, hard skin, callosity, as that of a wart. A wart. A villain, a scoundrel. పులిపిరికేమి నొప్పి, i.e., what feeling has a scoundrel? పులిపులి puli-puli. adj. Tormented. పీడితము. పులిపులిగాగ pulipuli-gā-ga. adv. Easily, into slices, తూలాయమానముగా. 'పులిపులిగాగబెబ్బులి పిండునొకనాడు చెదరగా నాటెనాచేతియీటె.' R. ii. 22.

(p. 890) buḍama buḍama. [Tel.] n. The plant named Bryonia callosa, or Curcumis utilissimus. Ainsl. ii. 428. కూతురుబుడమ and కోడిబుడమకాయ are various species. బుడమకాయలాగు తిరుగుతాడు he is running about here and there; (a phrase regarding a dumpy little man, who goes poking about.) బుడమపండ్లు the ripe fruit of the Bryonia. బుడమనరుగు the Bryonia callosa cut and dried for pickling. బుడమచేప buḍama-chēpa. n. A sort of fish.

(p. 1039) moddu moddu. [Tel. from మోడు.] n. A block, stump, pollard, lump, mass. స్థాణువు, మోడు. A blockhead. జడుడు, జడురాలు. 'వెర్రిమొద్దుకేల వేదశాస్త్రంబులు.' Vēma. 1073. ఎద్దుమొద్దు స్వరూపముగానుండేవాడు a mere brute, a blockhead. adj. Blunt, not sharp, పదునులేని. Stout, thick, లావైన. మొద్దుపెదవులు thick lips. Stubborn, uncouth, lumpish, dull, stupid, callous. మోటుగానుండే, చురుకులేని. మొద్దుగా moddu-gā. adv. Stupidly. మొద్దుపోవు moddu-pōvu. v. n. To become blunt, వాడిలేనిదగు.

(p. 1046) mōḍu mōdu. [Tel.] v. a. To hit, smite, strike, beat, కొట్టు, మొత్తు. 'ముచ్చనితల వరుల్ మోదజూచి.' M. XIII. v. 304. n. A blow or stroke. మోద mōda. n. A swelling or stiffening of a joint, callosity formed where a bone was broken. మోదకట్టినది the joint has become stiff.
