(p. 8) aṇṭukonu anṭu konu. [Tel.] v. n. To cleave, adhere to, stick, stick as paste. To catch fire. వాడు దాన్ని అంటుకొని పోయినాడు he carried her away, he has run away with her. అ యిల్లు అంటు కొస్నది the house has caught fire. వాదు వా వుస్మకముసు అంటుకొని పోయినాడు he stole my book. ఊపిరిమాత్రము అంటుకొనియున్నది his breath just remains in him. వానికడుపు వెన్నుతో అంటుకొనిపోయినది his belly sticks to his back-bone, i. e., he is emaciated.

(p. 27) accanagaṇḍlu, accanagāyalu or అచ్చనగుండ్లు aṭṭsana-gunḍlu. [Tel. singular అచ్చనకల్లు;] n. Chuck-stones. Pebbles which are tossed up, and caught on the back of the hand, in a game played by girls. 'ముదురువెన్నెల గాయ ముత్యాలదిన్నెపై పైడియచ్చనగండ్లు పారవైచి.' Yayati. iii. 149. అచ్చనలాడు or అచ్చనగాయలాడు to toss up balls and catch them on the back of the hand. నలాడండననియె నమ్మునితోడన్.' Jai. Bhar. i. 62.

(p. 76) ammanalu or అమ్మనములు ammanalu. [Tel.] n. A game wherein a number of balls are thrown into the air, one being caught in the hand descending whilst others are rising: అణంగులు గుండ్లను ఎగరవేసి ఆడే ఆట. 'గుజగుజరేకులు గుజ్జనగూళ్లను బొమ్మలపెండ్లిండ్లు నమ్మములు.' N. ix. 101.

(p. 138) iruku iruku. [Tel.] n. A strait, difficulty, distress, narrowness. Closeness, contact. adj. Narrow, tight, squeezing. ఇరుకు v. n. To be squeezed, stuck in. ఇరుకటము or ఇరుకాటము irukaṭamu. n. A narrow place. ఇరుకుచోటు. ఇరుకుమాను iruku mānu. n. Posts set in a gate-way (i.e., పంగలకర్ర). to exclude cattle but admit men; a turnpike. ఇరికించు or ఇరికించుకొను irikinṭsu. v. a. To insert, poke in, stick in. ఇరికికొను or ఇరుక్కొను iriki-konu. v. n. To get in; stick, be caught, be inserted, be entangled.

(p. 181) ekku ekku. [Tel.] v. a. & n. To rise, increase, swell. To appear (by its effects as wine, water, poison, or medicine.) To affect the mind. To prevail as a report; to come to notice వాని తలకు మదము ఎక్కినది he is beside himself with pride or lust. వానికి మత్తెక్కినది he is intoxicated. వడ్డియెక్కినది interest has accrued. ఎక్కినవడ్డి the interest that accrued. వాని దుష్టగుణములు నీకు ఎక్కినవి you have caught his bad habits, or, followed his example. వార్తకెక్కు to become the theme or topic of discourse. వన్నెకెక్కినాడు he became celebrated, rose to distinction. వాసికెక్కిన celebrated, honoured. ఎన్నికకెక్కినాడు one who has risen to reputation. పది గంటలపొద్దు ఎక్కిన వేళ when it was ten o'clock, lit. when the sun has mounted (to) ten hours. ఆ పనికి ఎవరును ఎక్కలేదు no one came forward, or volunteered for the business. అతని మాట యెక్కదు his word will not do, or avail. తలకు నీళ్లెక్కి ౛లుబుగానున్నది the water has got into the head and I have a cold. To mount on, get upon. మంచమెక్కు to take to one's bed. ఎక్కుకొను ekku-konu. v. a. To mount on ఆరోహించు.

(p. 208) oḍiyu oḍiyu. [Tel.] v. n. To run. To drip, drop, trickle. రూకలు ఒడిసిపోయినవి the money is all run out or expended. ఒడియు oḍiyu. v. a. To snatch, seize or catch. కొంచెము పైకెగిరిపట్టుకొను. To take. To pull లాగు. ఒడిసిచేపట్టుకొనిరాధనూరడించి he caught Rādha by the hand and pacified her. చెవి ఒడియు to pull one's ears.

(p. 244) kapi kapi. [Skt.] n. A monkey. కోతి. కపిధ్వజుడు a title of Arjuna. కపిముష్టిన్యాయము a monkey-like grasp, obstinacy, pertinacity. (This alludes to a mode of catching a monkey, by putting grain into a cocoanut with a hole large enough to admit the monkey's hand: he thrusts it in, and after grasping the grain, his fist is caught in the hole: he obstinately refuses to let the grain go, and thus is secured.)

(p. 411) cikku or చిక్కుకొను chikku. [Tel.] v. n. To be found, to be caught, or ensnared. దొరకు. To remain, be left మిగులు. అది నాకు చిక్కినది I have got it. To stop or halt, to remain. వెనుకచిక్కు to remain behind, to fall in the rear. To grow thin or lean. కృశించు. చిక్కని సొమ్ముగానున్నది it is unattainable, it cannot be got. చిక్కించుకొను chikkinṭsu-konu. v. a. To get, obtain. చేతిలో చిక్కించుకొను to get into one's hands, to get hold of. వెతలచిక్కు to be seized with sorrow. ధైర్యము చిక్కనందున as I dared not do so. చిక్కినది the rest, the remainder. చిక్కిపోవు chikki-povu v. n. To become lean. చిక్కు n. A tangle, మెలి. A puzzle, perplexity, intricacy, confusion, entanglement, difficulty, distress, trouble. సంకటము, ఇబ్బంది. చిక్కులుపడు to be in distress or to get into difficulty సంకటపడు. చిక్కులబెట్టు to entangle, to involve, puzzle, to distress or harass; to pinch or stint. చిక్కతీయు to disentangle. చిక్కుగానున్నది it is puzzling. చిక్కుపడ్డ tangled or dishevelled as hair, చిక్కయిన. చిక్కుపాటు entanglement. చిక్కుపడుట, సంకటపడుట. చిక్కు adj. Puzzling, perplexing, entangled, intricate, confused, difficult, troublesome, baffled. చిక్కుజడలు tangled hair. చిక్కుకంపు a rancid smell (of oil .) చిక్కుతాళము. n. A lock with many wards, and which, like a patent lock, can only be opened by those who know it.

(p. 433) cējēta chē-jēta. [Tel. చేయి+చేత.] adv. Hand in hand, hand over hand: rapidly, at once. చేజేతపట్టుకొన్నారు he was caught in the act.

(p. 435) cēpaṭṭu chē-paṭṭu. [Tel. చే = చేయి.] v. a. To take by the hand. గ్రహించు. To adopt, to patronise అవలంబించు. To help. To marry. పెండ్లియాడు. n. Adoption అవలంబనము. Kindness అనుగ్రహము. A place స్థానము. చేపట్టుకుంచము one who tries to please every body. చేపడు chē-paḍu. v. n. To fall into one's hands, to be seized or caught. పట్టుబడు, చిక్కు, లభించు.

(p. 435) cēyu chēyu. [Tel.] v. a. To do, make, perform. నొప్పిచేయు or నొప్పిపెట్టు to pain. వంటచేయు to cook. జగడముచేయు to quarrel. కైదుచేయు to imprison. స్వాధీనముచేయు to put in one's charge. నర్తకము చేయు to trade. మరుగుచేసికొను to take shelter, use as a screen. బేరముచేయు to settle the price. అప్పుచేయు to contract a debt. నన్ను ఆడదాన్ని చేసి looking upon me as a mere woman. ఈ బిడ్డ నెలఒళ్లుచేసినది the infant looks a month old already. బిడ్డయేమైనా ఒళ్లుచేసినదా is the child picking up flesh? కాజేయు to misappropriate, to settle, to kill. పల్లకి చేసికొన్నాడు he procured a palankeen. పెండ్లిచేసికొన్నది a wedded wife. చెయ్యిచేసికొనికొట్టె he closed his fist and beat them. అండచేసికొను to take refuge. రహస్యంబుచేసికొని యెరింగించెన్. (M. XIII. ii. 375) he told it as a secret. చేయు v. n. To do, act, behave. To be worth. అది పదిరూకలుచేయును it will be worth ten groats. వానికి జలుబుచేసినది he caught cold. చేయి chēyi. [lit: That which does or works.] n. The hand. చెయ్యి or చెయి. A ray కిరణము. A trunk తొండము. A wing. రెక్క Two cubit's length రెండుమూరలకొలది. A hold or grasp పట్టు. చేయించు chēyinṭsu. v. a. To cause to do or make. To get done.

(p. 501) tagulu tagulu. [Tel.] v. a. & n. To happen, occur, turn up, appear. To belong to. appertain to, to come in contact with, to touch, hit, strike. To be caught; got, found, joined, entangled, understood. To be received (as a blow), incurred (as expense or punishment.) n. See under తగులము. ఆ యింటికి నిప్పుతగిలినది the house caught fire. ఇక్కడ గాలి తగులుచున్నది the wind strikes here, here we get the breeze. పెండ్లితగిలినది there was a marriage. ప్రయాణము తగిలినది he had occasion to make a journey. అక్కడ మంచినీళ్లు తగిలినవి there we found fresh water. వానికి దెబ్బతగిలినది he received a blow. కుండ కాలికి తగిలినది the pot touched my foot. ఓడ మెరకు తగిలినది the ship ran aground. వానికి రోగముతగలకుండ to prevent his catching the disease. అతనితిట్లు నాకు తగలలేదు his abuse did not affect me. ఇది వానిమనసునకు తగిలినది this was impressed upon his mind. వెంటతగులు to pursue. తగులుకొని వచ్చిరి they attacked, they followed. అడ్డముతగులు to oppose, to come in the way. పదిరూకలు తగిలినవి it cost ten cash. తగులుకొను tagulu-konu. v. n. To be involved or entangled with. చిక్కుకొను. To fall in love with. వలచు. To catch fire. అది వాణ్ని తగులుకొనిపోయినది she has gone off with him. ఆ యిల్లు తగులుకొన్నది the house caught fire. తగలబడు or తగులబడు tagala-baḍu. v. n. (p. 520) tāku tāku. [Tel.] n. A touch, contact. తాకుట. An attack. A toe-ring. కాలిటాకు. v. a. & v. n. To touch; to strike, to push, to encounter, oppose, front. To be attached to join, apply. To strike (as heat does.) తాకేముందు a potent drug. నీవు చేసినపనులు నీ తలకే తాకినవి your sin has fallen on your own head. వానికి దిష్టి తాకినది he is suffering from the effects of an evil eye. వానికి రోగము తాకినది he has caught the disease. తాకించు tākinṭsu. v. a. To cause to touch, to put in contact with, to apply. తాకజేయు. To trouble శ్రమపరుచు. తాకుడు tākuḍu. n. Touching. తాకుట. స్పర్శము. తాకుడువేకి tākuḍu-vēki. n.
