(p. 21) akṣaramu aksharamu. [Skt. lit Eternal. imperishable.] n. A letter, a single syllable, a character of the alphabet, hand writing. A single syllable, whether of one letter or more. Thus the word సంస్కృతం Sam-skru-tam is termed a word of three letters. ఏకాక్షరము a monosyllable. సంయుక్తాక్షరము two or more letters united in one syllable, as స్త్రీ wherein four letters are united. త్య్రక్షరి try-ak-shari; the sacred or mystic syllable (ఓం AUM, or O'M a name of the Deity) that contains three letters. అక్షరజ్ఞుడు a man of letters. అక్షరాభ్యాసము beginning to learn the alphabet or the first principles of a language; మంత్రాక్షరము a cypher of syllable used in magic. ఇది ఆయన అక్షరము కాదు this is not his handwriting. నీవద్ద అప్పుగా తీసుకొన్న రూ 300 అక్షరాల మున్నూరు రూపాయీలు i.e., 'Rs. 300 (three hundred Rupees.)' here the same sum is denoted in writing as well as in figures. వాడు నిరక్షరకుక్షి he is an illiterate man. వానికి నోట్లో అక్షరాలు లేచియున్నవి his mouth is inflammed. అక్షరవిన్యాసము, the array of letters, writing.

(p. 52) anityamu a-nityamu. [Skt.] adj. Temporary, not permanent. అస్థిరమైన. అనిత్యత్వము state of not being permanent; transient character of a thing.

(p. 58) anusvāramu anu-svāramu. [Skt.] n. The name of the letter (O) the nasal character. సున్న, బిందువు.

(p. 58) anūkamu anūkamu. [Skt.] n. Race, family; peculiarity of race, character. అన్వయము, శీలము.

(p. 60) anvarthamu an-v-arthamu. [Skt.] adj. Descriptive, expressing the properties or attributes. సార్థకమైన. అన్వర్థనామము a name which suits one's character. అన్వర్థ సంజ్ఞ a significant term, a term whose meaning is intelligible in itself.

(p. 131) iṅgitamu ingitamu. [Skt.] n. Hint, sign, gesture, symptom. Intention, purpose, inclination. ఆకారేణైన చతురస్తర్కయంతి పరేంగితం, గర్భస్థం కేతకీపుష్ప మమోదదేనైవ షట్పదాః. From the countenance the wise discover the disposition as bees discover the unblown lily by its scent. ఇంగితజ్ఞుడు penetrating, skilful in reading a man's character, one who sees the heart. పరేంగితము knowledge of another's intention.

(p. 146) īluvu īluvu. [Tel.] n. Respectability, honour: character, faithfulness to a husband. పాతివ్రత్యము. Modesty. మానము, అభిమానము. Vasu. iii. 106. 'ఈలువు టాండ్రు.' (A. v. 74.) honourable women. Also, courage. ధైర్యము.

(p. 147) u . In poetry denotes a stanza in the metre named ఉత్పలమాల. The character ఉ. in common business is used as a contraction for ఉత్తరము an answer, as ప్ర. means a question.

(p. 164) upādhi upādhi. [Skt.] n. Meditation ధర్మచింత. One who support his family కుటుంబ పోషకుడు. Cause or means. వ్యాజము. An attribute or characteristic. విశేషణము. జీవనోపాధి means of subsistence.

(p. 242) kannaḍamu kannaḍamu. [Tel.] n. The Canara or Carnatic; a name including the Telugu and Canarese countries. (p. 375) guṇamu guṇamu. [Skt.] n. A quality, property, virtue, disposition, temper, character, or attribute. Tendency, effect, purpose, use. A symptom as of disease. వానికి గుణమువచ్చినది he is now come to his senses. నీలగుణము blackness. మంచి గుణము goodness, good temper. మోహగుణము the passion of lust. వానికి గుణముగానున్నది he is better, he has recovered. పది రూపాయలుయిస్తే గుణమే if he gives ten rupees so much the better. అందువల్ల యేమిగుణము what is the use of it? వానితో మాట్లాడితే గుణము లేదు there is no good in speaking to him. పది గుణములుగల or గడియకు ఒక గుణముగల freakish, changeable, whimsical వాంతిభ్రాంతిగుణము an attack or symptoms of cholera. The three Gunas are Rajah (passion) Tamah foulness: and Satvam (Truth). Added to a numeral, thus ద్విగుణము twice as much or two-fold. త్రిగుణము thrice as much, or three-fold. గుణము n. A cord, a string. త్రాడు. A bow string. అల్లెత్రాడు. గుణధ్వని the sound of the bowstring. గుణపడు guṇa-paḍu. v. n. To recover, improve, ameliorate. గుణమగు guṇa-m-agu. v. n. To recover. వారికి గుణమైనది they have improved. గుణమిచ్చు guṇa-m-iṭsṭsu. v. n. To affect favourably, as medicine, to improve the health. గుణము చేయు guṇamu-chēyu n. The cure. గుణవంతుడు or గుణయుతుడు guṇa-vantuḍu. n. A worthy or good man. గుణవతి guṇa-vati. n. A good woman. గుణి or గుణుడు guṇi. adj. Endowed or gifted with good qualities. 'గుణగుణంబులరీతి కూడిమాడి' (Paidimarri. iv. 214.) united as closely as goodness and the good, as the virtuous and virtue. అధికగుణుడు highly distinguished. గుణించు or గుణియించు guṇinṭsu. v. a.
