(p. 222) ?E0 The Sunna, anuswaram, or circle used for ణ, న, మ: as అండము aṇḍamu, an egg: సంతానము santānamu. Offspring: కంబు kambu, a shell. The half nasal 'ఁ' or semi circle is not used in modern Telugu, though some Pundits have made many efforts to introduce it.

(p. 3) aṅkili ankili. [Tel.] n. An obstacle; impediment. Grief, sorrow. 'శోకోపశమనంబులైన వచనంబులు చెప్పి యంకి లిదేర్చి.' భార. శాంతి. i. 288.

(p. 6) aṅgu angu. [Tel.] n. Beauty, agreeableness. అందము, ఒప్పిదము. అంగు adj. Agreeable, pleasant, handsome. అందమైన, ఒప్పిదమైన. అంగుగా angugā. adv. Agreeably. అంగుగానుండే clean limbed, well proportioned. Also helpful, useful, convenient.

(p. 8) aṇṭu antu. [Tel.] n. Uncleanness, defilement by touch, impurity, such as is caused by the death of a relative, or by touching a lower caste man. Relationship. అంటుది an unclean woman. అంటుపడ్డాడు he was polluted, he became unclean. అంటుగా ఉండేయిల్లు. a house ceremonially polluted. మాకు రేపు అంటు (లేక, మైల) వదులును tomorrow we shall be free from [ceremonial] impurity. వానికనిమాకును మరేమి అంటుసంటు లేదు I have no connection with him. I have nothing to do with him.

(p. 8) aṇṭukonu anṭu konu. [Tel.] v. n. To cleave, adhere to, stick, stick as paste. To catch fire. వాడు దాన్ని అంటుకొని పోయినాడు he carried her away, he has run away with her. అ యిల్లు అంటు కొస్నది the house has caught fire. వాదు వా వుస్మకముసు అంటుకొని పోయినాడు he stole my book. ఊపిరిమాత్రము అంటుకొనియున్నది his breath just remains in him. వానికడుపు వెన్నుతో అంటుకొనిపోయినది his belly sticks to his back-bone, i. e., he is emaciated.

(p. 9) aṇṭlu anṭlu. [Tel.] n. plu. Cooking utensils that are not washed clean. ఆ తపెలలో ఇంకా అంట్లు పోలేదు the pot is not yet cleaned (from the sticking, i. e.,) from the fragments of boiled rice. నేను యింకా అంట్లు తోమలేదు. I have not yet cleaned the cooking utensils.

(p. 9) aṇḍamu anḍamu. [Skt.] n. An egg. A testicle. The world. The Universe.గుడ్డు, వృషణము, ప్రపంచము. అండాకర్షణము castration. అండాకారముగా having the shape of an egg, elliptical. అండాకృతి an ellipsis. అండవాయువు anḍa-vāyuvu. [Skt.] n. The disease orchitis (swelled testicle.) బుడ్డ అండవృద్ధి anḍa-vriddhi. [Skt.] n. The enlargement of the scrotum, hydrocele.

(p. 11) antarāyamu anta-rāyamu. [Skt.] n. Obstacle, impediment. విఘ్నము.

(p. 15) andugu or అందుగుచెట్టు andugu. [Tel.] n. The clearing put plant (Strychnospotatorum). చిల్లగిం౛చెట్టు.

(p. 20) akkaḷiñcu akkaḷinṭsu. [Tel.] v. n. To twist, to contract, used of the muscles of the belly, a condition due to want of food. కడుపువెన్నున అంటుకొని పోవునట్టుగా సగ్గించు. 'అక్కళించినపొట్ట మక్కళించి.' Swa. I. 15.

(p. 28) accika or అచ్చికము acchika. [Tel.] n. Deficiency, want, defect. Clearness, cleanness. కొదవ, అచ్చము, ప్రసన్నము, తేరినది. 'నీకొకందులకు నచ్చికలేక మెలంగ.' H. i. 93. 'పల్వలంబులు లేతపచ్చికమచ్చిక చెలులకందిచ్చు నచ్చికములేక.' B. viii. 46.

(p. 28) accu aṭṭsu. n. A stamp, a form for printing or for any other impression, a type, a printing press. An axle-tree. A mould. The handle of a handmill, A weaver's reed or stay. An image, or picture. ప్రతి రూపమును కల్పించేటిది, ఇరుసుమాను, తిరగటి పిడి, బట్ట వేసేటందుకు సాధనమైనది, ప్రతిబింబము. పోత అచ్చు the mould wherein clay or metal is cast. ఇటికె అచ్చు the box or mould used in making bricks. అచ్చక్షరములు printed letters. అచ్చువేయు to print. ఇంకా అచ్చువేయని unprinted, unpublished.అచ్చువేసేవాడు a printer. అక్షరాల అచ్చులు types of letters. బెల్లపు అచ్చు a square mould into which boiled treacle is poured, and thus formed into cakes. అచ్చుబెల్లము a lump of jaggery, అచ్చొత్తు to seal, impress with a mark, to print అచ్చుకూటము (a Madras word,) A printing press office ముద్రాశాల. అచ్చుబల్ల the frame on which a weaver's reed is fixed. అచ్చువేసినయెద్దు a 'brahminy' bull that is marked or stamped and is allowed to wander at large, as consecrated to the deity. అచ్చుకట్టు or అచ్చుకట్టువేయు v. a. To prepare land for wet cultivation by throwing up banks to divide it into plots, partitions or beds. మళ్లుగా ఏర్పరచు అచ్చుకట్టించినమడి or అచ్చుకట్టు పొలము a field which is divided into beds for wet cultivation. అచ్చులపోయు to find yarn on the frame for weaving (Cuddapa.) అచ్చుగా aṭṭsu-gā. [Tel.] adv. Precisely, exactly, clearly, evidently. 'పిచ్చుకపై బ్రహ్మాస్తము నచ్చుగ దొడిగినవితాన.' T. iv. 22.

(p. 29) acchamu achchamu. [Skt.] adj. Clear, transparent. అచ్చముగా adv. Purely, clearly, plainly. అచ్ఛాచ్ఛము achchā-chchamu. [Skt.] adj. Perfectly pure. అతినిర్మలమైన. A. vi. 140

(p. 31) aṭakali aṭakali. [Tel.] n. A stuff used to rub upon the head to clean the hair ఒడలు తోముకొనే పిండి. Plu. అటకండ్లు.

(p. 32) aṭṭu or అట్టుగా aṭṭu. [Tel.] adv. (A particle) So that, as, according to. అతడు వచ్చేటట్టు వ్రాయుము write a letter so that he may come. మీరు చెప్పినట్టుగా చేస్తిని I did as you bid me. ఆయన చెప్పినట్టు according to his order. వాడు ఇంకా అవతలకు పోవునట్టు అగుపడ్డాడు he seemed as though he would go further. నేను చెప్పినట్టు చేసినాడు he did as I said. వారు సాగిపోయినట్టుగా చెప్పెను he said that they had passed on. అట్టు గాక or అట్లాకాక aṭṭugāka. adv. Without being so. అట్టుల aṭṭula. adv. As soon as, soon after. వెంటనే. 'చెట్టు దిగి వచ్చినట్టుల.' H. ii. 47. Just as. ఆప్రకారము. అట్టే (for అట్లాగే) aṭṭē. [Tel.] adv. Thus. So. In the same manner, as it was. అట్టే ఉండనీ leave it as it is. నొప్పి అట్టే ఉన్నది the pain is in the same state. అట్టే పోయినాడు he went off straightway. అట్టే మాట్లాడుతూ ఉండినాడు he was talking straight on. ఆ గుర్రములట్టే ఉన్నవి the horses are as they were: they are untouched.
