(p. 100) aṣṭa ashṭa [Skt. cf. Eng. 'Eight,' Lat. Octo.] adj. Eight.--అష్టకష్టములు The eight unpleasant circumstances liable to occur in the course of life. [Viz. దేశాంతర గమనము foreign travel, భార్యావియోగము separation from one's wife. కష్టకాలములో ప్రియబంధుదర్శనము friends and relations arriving in the time of trouble, ఎంగిలితినడము eating the leavings of others, తన, శత్రువులతో స్నేహము చేయడము courting one's enemies, పరాన్నమునకు కాచియుండడము looking for food from strangers, సభలో అప్రతిష్ఠవచ్చుట being ignorant in an assembly of wise men, దరిద్రమనుభవించడము suffering poverty.] అష్టకోణి an octagon, అష్టదిక్కులు the eight points of the compass.--అష్టదిక్పాలకులు the regents of the eight points of the compass, viz. Indra of the East, Agni of the South-east, Yama of the South, Nairriti of the South-west, Varuṇa of the West, Marut of the North-west, Kubēra of the North, and Iṣana of the South-east.--అష్టదిగ్గజములు the elephants supporting the eight corners of the earth-అష్టనగములు the eight serpents supporting the eight angles or points of the world. Their names are as follow: వాసుకి, అనంతుడు, తక్షకుడు, శంఖపాలుడు, కుళికుడు, పద్ముడు, మహాపద్ముడు, కార్కోటకుడు. అష్టవదులు a certain set of songs of eight lines in length.-అష్టపాత్రములు the eight vessels used in a sacrifice.--అష్టభాగ్యములు the eight requisites to the regal state; as రాజ్యము territory, భండారము wealth, సేన్యము an army, ఏనుగులు elephants, గుర్రములు horses, ఛత్రము an umbrella, చామరము a fly fan or whisk, ఆందోళిక a palanquin.--అష్టభోగములు the eight sources of pleasure, viz., ఇల్లు house, పరుపు bed,వస్త్రము raiment, అభరణము jewels, స్త్రీలు women, పుష్పము, flowers, గంధము perfume, తాంబూలము areca nuts and betel-leaves.--అష్టమదములు eight kinds of pride, viz., అన్నమదము luxury in food, అర్థమదము pride of wealth, స్త్రీమదము pride of lust, విద్యామదము pride of learning, కులమదము, pride of rank and family, రూపమదము pride of beauty, ఉద్యోగమదము pride of station, యౌవనమదము pride of youth.-- అష్టస్వామ్యములు the eight respects in which an absolute conveyance is made, viz., విక్రయ, దాన, వినిమయ, జల, తరు, పాషాణ, విధి, నిక్షేపములు -- అష్టాంగములు See under అంగము. సాష్టాంగదండము prostration in worship. -అష్టాపదము an eight legged dragon: a spider. అష్టావధానము See under అవధానము. అష్టైశ్వర్యములు complete comfort, every blessing, also eight attributes, viz., అణిమ, మహిమ, గరిమ, లఘిమ, ప్రాప్తి, ప్రాకామ్యము, ఈశత్వము, వశిత్వము.

(p. 133) impu or ఇంబు impu. [Tel.] n. Fulness, satisfaction, ease, Fondness, liking. 'కండ్ల కింపైతే కడుపుకింపు' that which pleases the eye pleases the appetite. ఇంపైన pleasing, comfortable. ఇంపితము impitamu. [ఇంపు+ఇతము] adj. Pleasant. ఇంపైన. ఇంపుగా or ఇంపెసలార Finely, sweetly, nobly. Suitably, pleasantly. ఇంపొలయు im-polayu. [ఇంపు+ఒలయు] v. n. To suit, to be pleasing.

(p. 141) iṣṭamu ishṭamu. [Skt.] n. Wish, inclination, liking, pleasure, choice. ఇష్టము. adj. Desired, dear, beloved. ఇష్టమయినదాకా as long as one liked. ఇష్టదేవత ishṭadēvata. A patron saint or tutelary god. ఇష్టపడు ishṭa-paḍu. v. n. To wish. To consent. ఇష్టాగోష్ఠిగా ishṭā-gōshṭṭhi-gā. adv. Agreeably, comfortably. ఇష్టాలాపము ishṭā-lāpamu. n. Pleasant conversation. ఇష్టి ishṭi. n. Wish. inclination. A sacrifice, rite, ceremony. కోరిక, యజ్ఞము, ఇష్టించు ishṭinṭsu. v. a. To desire, wish for. BD. iv. 1051. ఇష్టుడు ishṭuḍu. n. A friend.

(p. 176) ūraṭa ūraṭa. [Tel.] n. Comforting. ఊరడించుట. Rest. విరామము. Ease, freedom, leisure. Aid, help. సహాయము. ఊరటపడు ūraṭa-paḍu. v. n. To be consoled. ఊరటపరచు ūraḍa-paraṭsu. v. a. To console. ఊరడించు ūraḍinṭsu. v. a. To comfort, console. ఉపశమించు. ఊరడిల్లు or ఊరడు ūraḍillu. v. n. To be calmed, appeased, comforted, consoled. శాంతినొందు. ఊరడబల్కె he spoke consolingly.

The name of a certain plant. చలిమల ṭsali-mala. n. The hill of snow, i.e., హిమాచలము. చలిమిడి ṭsalimiḍi. n. A mixture of rice flour and sugar బెల్లము కలిపిన పిండి. చలిమిరి or చల్మిరి ṭsali-miri. n. The moon చల్ది ṭsaldi. See చలి. వానికి చలువలు కమ్మినవి a chill came over him, i.e., he is deadly cold or in the extremity of death. చలవపందిలి ṭsalava-pandili. n. A canopy, or triumphal arch, an ornamented booth for an idol. చలువచప్పరపుకోళ్లమంచము a comfortable bed decked out with a coverlet, tilt and pillars. చలువజ్యోతి ṭsaluva-jyōti. n. A poetical word for the moon.

(p. 444) calla ṭsalla. [Tel.] n. Curds beaten with water, buttermilk. మజ్జిగ. చల్లకైవచ్చి ముంత దాచనేల, చల్లకు పోయి ముంత దాచడమేమి why conceal your pot when you come for buttermilk, i.e., why do you beat about the bush? or, why mince the matter? చల్ల or చల్లని adj. Cool, cold. శీతము. Benign, merciful, healing. Comfortable. చల్లకము ṭsallakamu. n. Sprinkling. Watering, irrigation. చల్లుట. చల్లకడి ṭsalla-kaḍi. n. Flummery: buttermilk mingled with fenugreek. మెంతిమజ్జిగ. చల్లకవ్వము ṭsalla-kavvamu. n. A churn-staff: The bird called King-fisher: also a name for the insect called గొల్ల భామపురుగు mantis precatoria. చల్లగడ్డ ṭsalla-gaḍda. n. The linear leaved asparagus. Asparagus sarmentosus, Willden. Easily, gently, well, safely, comfortably: in good health, softly, deliberately. చల్లగాచూచు to look at or regard with satisfaction. చల్లగామాట్లాడు to speak coolly or gently. మీదొరతనము చల్లగా నుండవలెను may your reign be peaceful! వాని చెయ్యి చల్లగా నుండవలెను may his hand be blessed! 'తే అందరికి నన్నివగల నానాందమిచ్చి, చల్లచేయగ.' (Ila. i. 79.) with her graces she charmed them all, cheering and refreshing their hearts. కన్నులచల్లచేసె. (T. ii.38.) it cheered his eyes. చల్లని చెయ్యగల వైద్యుడు a physician with a lucky hand. చల్లనిప్రభువు a kind master. చల్లచప్పుడు ṭsalla-ṭsappuḍu. n. A fool జడుడు. చల్లచీమ or చలిచీమ ṭsalla-chīma. n. A black ant, so called because it is benign or merciful in not stinging as the red ant does. చల్లజంపు ṭsalla-zampu. n. One who kills in cold blood. A cruel man భయంకరుడు. చల్లటి ṭsllaṭi. adj. Cool Convex. చల్లటిబిళ్ల a convex plate of glass. as distinguished from అద్దపుబిల్ల a pane. చల్లడము or చల్లాడము ṭsallaḍamu. n. Tight drawers or breeches: short trousers, which reach as far as the middle of the thigh. The loose skirt end of the waist band that hangs in front: ఇ౛ారు, సగముతొడవరకు తొడుగుకొనే గుడిగి. చల్లదనము or చల్లన ṭsalla-danamu. n. Coolness, coldness. చల్లనీరుకణితి ṭsalla-nīru-kaṇiti. n. A sort of fish. A species of sparus. Russell's fishes. No. 104. చల్లలపడు ṭsalla-paḍu. v. n. To cool. చల్లన గు. చల్లరసము Same as చల్లకడి. చల్లరాడు tsalla-rāḍu. n. The post (తరికంబము) round which the string passes, which works the churning stick. చల్లవడియము tsalla-caḍiyamu. n. A kind of cake. వడియములలో ఒకభేదము. చల్లచేయు ṭsalla-chēyu. v. t. To cool. చల్లపరుచు. చలల్లారు tsallāru.v. n. To grow cool. చల్లపడు. To become calm, to be allayed, restrained or pacified ఉపశమిల్లు. To be extinguished. చల్లార్చు tsall-āruṭsu. v. a.
