(p. 162) upama upama. [Skt.] n. A resemblance, a simile. Also, skill నేర్పు. ఉపమరి upamari. adj. Clever, ready at expedients. ఉపమానము upamānamu. n. A comparison, simile. The object to which a thing is compared. ఉపమించు upa-minṭsu. v. a. To compare. పోల్చు. ఉపమేయము upa-mēyamu. n. The object which is compared to another. The antitype or thing meant in a parable or comparison. ఇక్కడ ఇది ఉపమానము, దీనిని పట్టి ఉపమేయమును గ్రహింపవలసినది here we must understand the thing meant from the figure the poet uses.

How much. ఇది యెంత పొడుగు how long is this? ఎంత అన్యాయము what injustice! ఈ బంగారమెంత ఉన్నది what is the price (or weight) of this gold? అది యెంత పని what great matter is that? ఎంతమాత్రము how much? ఎంతలో within what price? ఎంతమాత్రము కాదు by no means. అట్లు అనడానకు నేనెంతవాణ్ని who am I that I should say so? నీవెంత ఆయనయెంత? what comparison is there between you and him? నేనెంత చెప్పినా notwithstanding all I could say. ఎంత చెల్లించితే అంత మంచిది the more you pay the better అప్పుడు ఎంత రాత్రియైయుండెను what time of night was it then? ఎంత సేపటికి వచ్చినాడు how long after did he come? ఎంతకు అమ్మినాడు for how much did he sell it? ఎంతమాత్రము కూడనిపని a thing quite out of the question. నీవెంత నేనెంత అని పోట్లాడినారు they scorned or insulted one another. ఎంతటి వారు what sort of persons? ఎంతమంది how many (persons.) The conjunction యు is sometimes added as an intensive. ఎంతయు రయంబున with very great speed ఎంతేని entēni. adv. Ever so much, how much soever. ఎంతైనను. ఎంతైన. how vast, how great, ever so great. ఎంతో much. ఎంతో సంతోషముతో with great joy.

(p. 338) kva kva. [Skt.] adv. Where? ఎక్కడ? 'క్వసూర్యప్రభవోవంశం క్వచాల్పవిషయామతిః' Where is the race descended from the Sun, and where is my weak wit? Where the comparison!

(p. 721) paruvu paruvu. [Tel.] n. The act of running. పరుగు, శీగ్రగమనము. Ripeness, పక్వము, పరిపాకము. Dignity, rank, respectability, గౌరవము, అతిశయపరిమాణము. Season. కోత పరువుగానున్నది the crop is in the course of ripening. వానిపరువెక్కడ, నీపరువెక్కడ what comparison is there between him and you in rank. పరువుగొను, పరువుపారు or పరువువెట్టు Same as పరుగెత్తు.

(p. 748) pāvanamu pāvanamu. [Skt.] adj. Pure, clean, purifying, holy. పవిత్రము. నేడు సుదినము నా జన్మము పావనమాయెను this happy day blots out all my sins: (a common phrase of joy.) పరముకన్ననేమి పావనమాసోమ్ము is wealth any object in comparison with heaven? పరమపావనీ O most holy One! పావనముచేయు to purify. ఆయన ఈ రాజ్యమును పావనముచేసెను he reformed this realm. n. Penance, purification. ప్రాయశ్చిత్తము. Water. జలము. A vow, వ్రతము. 'పావనశయవారిజాతముల భవ్యగణార్చలొనర్చు నిత్యమున్.' Chenn. v. 264. పావనశయమనగా, జలాశయము. పావని pāvani. [from పవనము, wind.] n. A name of Hanuman or Bhīma. R. vi. 67. A pure or holy woman, పవిత్రురాలు. పావనుడు pāvanudu. n. The purifier: an epithet of Agni, the god of fire. పరకుపావనుడు the all-holy one.
