(p. 524) tāratamyamu or తారతమ్యత tāra-tamyamu. [From Skt. తర and తమ affixes of the Sanskrit comparative and superlative degrees.] n. Difference, distinction. Proportionate value: comparative merit. Superiority among competitors. తరతమభావము, న్యూనాధిక్యము. భాగ్యవంతులను గొప్ప చేయుటలోను నావంటిదీనులను రక్షించడములోను నుండే తారతమ్యము తమ చిత్తానికే తెలియును you well know how far the merit of relieving the poor exceeds that of promoting the rich.

(p. 574) daṇṭa danṭa. [Tel.] n. A match, or equal, ౛ంట. A rival, a competitor. A couple or pair. A hero, a genius సమర్థుడు. A dashing or spirted man or woman దిట్టతనము గలవాడు, దిట్టతనముగలది, నేర్పరి. adj. Rival: two, coupled, as twins; spirted, unrivalled. ప్రౌఢమైన. దంటతనము danṭa-tanamu. n. Rivalry, spirt, noble genius. దంటపడు danṭa-paḍu. v. n. To league, or combine. దంటపిల్లలు danṭa-pillalu. n. Twins. కవలు దంటమోములదేవర the two-faced god, i.e., Agni.

(p. 817) pōṭi pōṭi. [Tel.] adj. Similar, like, resembling, ఈడైన, మారు. 'ఈ భూరిభరంబు మాన్ప ననుబోటి కశక్యము.' నాబోటివాడు a man like me. పోటి or పోటీ pōṭi. n. Emulation, competition, rivalry. స్పర్ధ. A prop. ఆసరా. వారు పోటీచేసినందున వెలపొడిగినది by their rivalry the price was raised. ఆ దూలమునకు పోటీ యిచ్చినాడు he set a prop against the beam. పోటిగాడు pōṭi-gāḍu. n. One who has a prop or support, పోటిగలవాడు. A companion, a fellow, an equal, సముడు, మిత్రుడు. పోటిపెట్టు to stir up emulation, to set by the ears.

(p. 818) pōṭu pōṭu. [Tel.] n. A thrust, a stab, a blow. పొడుపు. కత్తిపోటు. A throb of pain. పోదుపు, నొప్పి. The swell of a river, or of the sea, the flow of the tides, high water, సముద్రోల్పణము, నద్యాదులజలవృద్ధి. Heroism, courage, శౌర్యము. A battle, యుద్ధము. వాడు ఇప్పుడు కొంచెము పోటుమీద నున్నాడు he is now drunk. 'నా కొడుకు పోటుమాటలు, నీకేటికి పొసగవాడ.' M. IV. v. 258. పోటుమాటలు అనగా ఎత్తిపొడుపుమాటలు. చెవిపోటు chevi-pōṭu. n. Ear-ache. ఆ కురుపు పోట్లు పొడుస్తున్నది the boil is throbbing. పోటాపోటీ pōṭā-pōṭī. n. Rivalry, emulation, competition, నీకంటే నాకనిపయిబడడము. వానికి నిన్న దర్భపోటుతగిలినది he was invited to the ceremony held on the anniversary of a man's father's death. పోటుపాటు ఎరిగినవాడు one who knows both sides of the question పోటాడు or పోటొగ్గు to get ready for battle. రణోద్యోగము చేయు. పోటుకంబము pōṭu-kambamu. n. A post or pillar which is set up as a prop, ఊతగానిలిపినస్తంభము. పోటుకలుపు pōṭu-kalupu. n. A second weeding, రెండవమారు తీయు కలుపు. పోటుకాడు, పోటుబంటు, పోటుమగడు or పోటుమానిసి pōṭu-kāḍu. n. A hero, a courageous man, శూరుడు. పోటుకోల pōṭu-kōla. n. A sharp pointed stick used as a prop. 'వలలును దెరలు ప్రోగులు చుట్టగాలేదు, పోటుకోలొకటియు బుచ్చలేదు, తెగిన మెకంబుల తేలేదు.' Dhurjati. iii. 96. పోటుగంప pōṭu-gampa. n. A large basket. పోటుపాటు pōṭu-pāṭu. n. The ebb and flow of a tide. Paidim. i. 86. 'నీపోటుపాటున నిపుడిట్లు మమ్ము బోరించితివి.' HD. ii. 1196. నీపోటుపాటున, నీవెచ్చి తగ్గుటచేతను. పోటెక్కించినవాడు pōt-ekkinchina-vāḍu. n. An assailant, one who attacks. ఎదిరించి పైకి వచ్చేవాడు.' పోటెక్కించినవారిమీద ప్రయోగించినవాని సమరపతి వధియించుననియును బెద్దలవలన వినియుందుము.' M. VII. iii. 96. పోటొడ్డు pōt-oḍḍu. v. n. To face in battle, to oppose. యుద్ధానిముఖుడగు. 'పొడిసింగరాజు పోటొడ్డినాడు.' Pal. 410. పోట్లాట pōḷl-āṭa. (పోటులు+ఆట.) n. Fighting; a struggle, dispute, యుద్ధము, కొట్టాట. పోట్లాడు or పోటులాడు pōṭl-āḍu. v. n. To fight, to battle, to struggle, to come to blows. యుద్ధముచేయు. పోట్లావు pōṭl-āvu. n. A cow that butts, పొడిచే స్వభావముగల ఆవు పోటరి or పోటరికాడు pōṭari. (పోటు+అరి.) n. A hero, a brave man. శూరుడు. 'పోటరులైనభర్త లేవురు గలరంటి.' M. IV. ii. 264. పోటరితనము pōṭari-tanamu. n. R. v. 316. 'వదినెలు తెలిసినవాసి జెడును.' H. i. 138. 'వాపిచెడనతసుకాంతితో UR. iv. 297. వానిఒళ్లు వాసిచేసిరి they cured him. ముఖవాసి fascination, personal influence. వానికి చెయివాసికద్దు he has a lucky hand, he is fortunate in his practice. మాటవాసికిచెప్పినాను I said it without any particular reason. Extent, limit పరిమితి. This is affixed to words denoting fractions thus, అరవాసి one half. కాలువాసి one quarter. Advantage gained in measurement, &c., surplus. ధారణవాసి advantage gained by price. 'ధారణవాసికైరొదల్ బెట్టుచు.' A. vi. 93. టీ వాసి, మార్పుయెక్కువ తక్కువలకొరకు. 'మాయక్కకన్న రాధికయేయెక్కువయైన చానయెరిగింపుమదే యీమమనాయమనెన్నగ ప్రాయమ్మున రాజుబంటువాసిదలంపన్.' Ila. iii. 179. టీ రాజు బంటువాసి, అనగా దొరుకును సేవకునకును ఉండే తారతమ్యము వాసి vāsi. adj. Greater,గొప్ప. Better, either in health or in quality. స్వస్థము, బాగు. అది యిప్పుడు నిండావాసి it is much better now. రోగము వాసియైనది the disease is cured. వారికంటెవీరు వాసి these are better than the other men. వాసికెక్కు vāsi-ekku. v. n. To rise to celebrity, become great, obtain eminence, attain superiority, ప్రసిద్ధినిపొందు 'లోకమువారు మెచ్చగా వన్నెకువాసికెక్కి.' T. ii. 38. 'నీ యుపకారము ముజ్జగంబులన్ వాసికి నెక్కి.' Anirudh. iii. 59. వాసీగా vāsi-gā. adv. Well, properly, fully. చక్కగా. 'కాశీమహిమము మీచేవాసిగవిని సంశయముల నాసితిమిక నీదాసులము.' P. iv. 262. వాసిచేయు vāsi-chēyu. v. a. To ameliorate, cure, make better. స్వస్థముచేయు. వాసితనము vāsi-tanamu. n. Propriety, fitness, యుక్తము. 'సత్యభామా విధేయువలన మరలగొనుటపో వాసితనము.' Parij. iv. 16.

(p. 1369) spardha spardha. [Skt.] n. Emulation, jealousy, envy, vying, competition, rivalry.పోటి, వీరపత్రివీరవాదము, సంఘర్షణ. పరస్పరస్పర్ధలు mutual emulations. స్పర్థాళువు spardhā-ḷuvu. n. A competitor, a rival. స్పర్థ గలవాడు. స్పర్థి spardhi. adj. Envious, emulous. పోరాడే, వాదించే.
