(p. 109) āgu āgu. [Tel.] v. n. To stop, to stay, asbtain, refrain. To bear (as a cord does a weight.) To be confined, set aside, or reserved. ఆయింటను ఆగబడి యున్నదేవకి (B. X. 75.) Devaki who was kept in restraint. తల్లిదండ్రులులెని బాలురు ఆగ నీవు దిక్కు thou art the refuge of the helpless. పశువులకు ఆరినబీడు land set aside or reserved for pasture. ఇది లేనిది నాకు ఆగదు I cannot get on without this. నా నోటిలో ఆ మాట ఆగదు I cannot keep that word a secret. ఆగు, ఆగించు, ఆచు, ఆపు the causal of ఆగు: āgu. [Tel.] v. t. To stop, check, hinder. To keep, tend. To look to, superintend, guard, protect, preserve. To fold or gather as a flock. నోరాచి మాట్లాడిరి they spoke cautiously. చెయ్యి ఆపక (T. v. 22.) without intermission. నిద్ర ఆచుట to refrain from sleep, keep away drowsiness. రాత్రిళ్లు ఇక్కడ మందులు ఆచుకొని యుండేవారు they used to keep cattle here at nights.

(p. 129) āsannamu ā-sannamu. [Skt.] adj. At hand, near, proximate, ready, prepared. దాపైన. ఆసన్న ప్రసవ గర్భవతి on the point of bringing forth, about to be confined.

(p. 129) āsēdhamu āsēdhamu. [Skt.] n. Check, restraint. అడ్డగింత. Arrest: legal restraint; limitation of four kinds, viz.: కాలాసేధము limitation of time, స్ధానాసేధము confinement to a place, ప్రవాసాసేధము prohibition against removal or departure, కర్మాసేధము restriction from employment.

(p. 656) niyōgiñcu ni-yōgīnṭsu. [Skt.] v. a. To engage in a task, send about, employ on. appoint to; to command, to order, ఆజ్ఞాపించు. నియోగ్యుడు ni-yōgyuḍu. n. One who is fit to be appointed or sent. నియోగింపదగినవాడు, నియోజ్యుడు niyōjyuḍu. n. A servant or slave. భృత్యుడు, పనివాడు, నియోగము or నియోజనము niyōgamu. n. An order, command, mandate. నియమించడము, ఆజ్ఞ. L. III. 259. నియోగి or నియ్యోగి niyōgi. n. A minister. మంత్రి. The name of a certain sect of secular Brahmins. The Niyōis and the Vyápáris are two classes of secular Brahmins. The Niyōgis are in several points different from ఆచార్యులు Á'chāris. The authors of the Telugu poems are mostly Niyōgis. Sanskrit literature being confined to the Vaidikis who are considered their superiors.

(p. 659) nirbandhamu nir-bandhamu. [Skt.] n. Force, violence. బలవంతము, బలాత్కారము, కదలమెదలగూడనికట్టు. నన్ను చేవ్రాలు చేయుమని నిర్భంధముచేసినారు they forced me to sign it. నిర్బంధపుకైదు close confinement. నిర్బంధించు, నిర్బంధముచేయు or నిర్బంధపెట్టు nir-bandhinṭsu. v. a. To force, press, to lay violent hands upon. To constrain or oppress: to persist in, or insist on.

(p. 661) nivātamu ni-vātamu. [Skt.] adj. Airless, close, confined. n. A prop. ప్రాపు. నివాత కవచము armed in an air-tight panoply.

(p. 771) puruḍu puruḍu. [Tel.] n. Parturition, child birth. Ceremonial uncleanness for ten days after the birth of a child, జాతాశాచము. పురుడుపుచ్చు to put away a woman's uncleanness, వురిటిల్లు or వురుటిల్లు the house wherein a birth has happened, ప్రసవగృహము. నెలవురుడు the lesser degree of uncleanness, extending from the 10th to the 30th day. పురిటి పురుగు a reptile, imagined to injure new born children. ఆమె పురుడుపోసినాను I got her through her confinement, I attended on her in her childbed. 'పురిటిజింకలు అనగా వేసి' S. i 176. పదిదినములైనా కాని జింకపిల్లలు. పురిటాలు, పురుటాలు or పురుటియాలు puriṭ-ālu. n. A woman in childbed. బాలెంతరాలు.

(p. 792) peraḍu peraḍu. [Tel.] n. The back yard of a house, ఇంటివెనుకదొడ్డి. పాటిపెరడు a piece of ground manured by cattle confined there for that purpose. కూరపెరడు a kitchen garden. పెరటిగుమ్మము or పెరటిదోవ the backyard door, the back door. పెరటిచెట్టు మందకురాదు (a proverb) Lit: the tree in the backyard is considered to be of no use as a medicine. i.e., familiarity breeds contempt. 'నా పెరటి చెట్లుకల్పద్రుమములు.' R. v. 176.

(p. 851) proddu or పొద్దు proddu. [Tel.] n. The sun, సూర్యుడు. Time, కాలము. A day, దినము. Half a day, పూట. The dawn, వేకువ౛ాము. The morning, ఉషఃకాలము. ప్రొద్దువాలిన తర్వాత after the sun began to decline, in the afternoon. పెద్దయుంబ్రొద్దు a long time. ప్రొద్దిటిపూట the morning time. ప్రొద్దుటెండ the morning sunlight. ప్రొద్దులు proddulu. n. plu. The days hear the time of the confinement of a woman, ప్రసవదినములు. ప్రొద్దులనెల the month during which a confinement takes place, ప్రసూతిమాసము. ప్రొద్దుకల్లు or ప్రొద్దురాయి proddu-kallu. n. Lit: the sun-stone, i.e., a focussing lens, సూర్యకాంతశిల. ప్రొద్దుగొడుకు, ప్రొద్దుపట్టి or ప్రొద్దుచూలి proddu-goḍuku. n. The son of the sun; an epithet applied to Yama, Sani, karṇa or Sugriva, యముడు, శని, కర్ణుడు, సుగ్రీవుడు. ప్రొద్దుతిరుగుడు proddu-tiruguḍu. n. The sun-flower, సూర్యమవర్తిని. ప్రొద్దుపుచ్చు proddu-puṭsṭsu. v. a. To pass the time, కాలక్షేపముచేయు. ప్రొద్దురిక్క proddu-rikka. n. A constellation called ఉత్తరఫల్లునీనక్షత్రము. ప్రొద్దురిక్క నెల proddu-rikka-nela. n. A name of the Telugu month called ఫాల్గుణమాసము.

(p. 859) bandamu or బందాము bandamu. [from Skt. బంధము.] n. A tie or band to keep the legs together; hobbles or trammels used to confine cattle. Knee-haltering. The rope which connects the feet of a man who climbs a palmtree. బందా bandā. n. One who is put in prison, చెరబడ్డవాడు.

(p. 859) bandi bandi. [from Skt. బంధము.] n. Imprisonment, confinement. చెర, కయిదుచేయడము, నిర్బంధము. That which is imprisoned, చెరబడ్డది. 'బావింపమనుమాడ బందిచిక్కితిమి.' (BD. ii. 800.) behold we have fallen into his hands. బంధికాడు bandi-kāḍu. n. A marauder, a high-way-man. బందిపోటుదొంగ. 'బందికాడైన పొరువులు బ్రతుకగనునె.' Swa. iii. 157. బందిగము bandi-gamu. n.
