(p. 9) aṇḍru anḍru. [Tel.] v. contraction of అందరు they will say.

(p. 18) akaṭavikaṭamu n. Opposition, contrariety, awkardness. విరుద్ధము, ప్రతికూలము. ఎందుకు అకటవికటము చేస్తున్నావు why do you give trouble?

(p. 18) akaṭavikaṭamu akaṭa-vikaṭamu. [Tel.] adj. Adverse, contrary, awkard, inverted, contrariwise. తారుమారైన, విరుద్ధమైన, ప్రతికూలమైన, అకటవికటమైన మాట an incoherent speech, a prevarication, అకటవికటపు మాటలాడుట to shuffle, prevaricate, అకటవికటమైన పని an awkward, confused or troublesome affair.

(p. 20) akkaḷiñcu akkaḷinṭsu. [Tel.] v. n. To twist, to contract, used of the muscles of the belly, a condition due to want of food. కడుపువెన్నున అంటుకొని పోవునట్టుగా సగ్గించు. 'అక్కళించినపొట్ట మక్కళించి.' Swa. I. 15.

(p. 30) aṭa ata. [Tel.] or అంట (contraction of అంటున్నారు they say) It is said, they say. వాడు వచ్చెనట they say he is come. రావటే for రావటవే, i.e., రానంటావే యేమే what, will you not come? కోపమటే, i.e., కోపమాయేమే what, are you angry? బాలుడటేనాడు what! do you call him a child? అటరా is a contraction for అంటావురా dost thou say so?

(p. 37) aḍucu aḍuṭsu. [Tel.] v. n. To close, to shut. మూసివేయు. అందులో నాలుగు వాకిళ్లు అడిచియున్నవి four of the gates are closed, ఆ గుడ్లను ఈ పెట్టెలో అడుచు (here అడుచు is for అణచు) cram the clothes into the box. Also, v. a. To beat, strike, thrash. To destroy కొట్టు, వళింపచేయు. 'ఎమ్ములిరియుగ శిలతో నడిచిన.' P. i. 729. అడుచుకొను aḍuṭsukonu. v. To contract, choke, be stopped. ఆ కాలవలో ఇసుక అడుచుకొన్నది the channel is choked with sand. వాని రొమ్మడుచుకొన్నది he has a contraction of the chest. గొంతు అడుచుకొన్నది, మాట్లాడకూడలేదు his throat is hoarse, he cannot speak.

(p. 37) aḍḍamāḍu aḍḍa-māḍu. [Tel.] v. n. To contradict విరుద్ధముగా చెప్పు.

(p. 38) aḍḍamu aḍḍamu. [Tel.] n. Obstacle, hindrance, A screen. అభ్యంతరము, ఆటంకము, చటు. A pledge తాకట్టు నీ మాటకు అడ్డము లేదు no one will resist you. వాండ్లకు మాకు గోడ అడ్డముగా ఉండినది there was a wall between them and us. ఒక నగను అడ్డము పెట్టి యిరువైరూపాయలు తెచ్చినాడు he pawned a jewel and got twenty rupees. నా పనికి అడ్డము వచ్చినాడు he opposed my endeavours. మొగుణ్ని అడ్డముపెట్టుకొని తానే అన్ని పనులు చూచుకొనిపోయినది she used her husband as a screen and carried on the business. వాడు తండ్రికి అడ్డమాడుతాడు he opposes or contradicts his father. తిరుపతికి పోయేలోగా మూడేళ్లు అడ్డమువస్తవి there are three rivers to cross on the way to Tirupati. ఏదో ఒకటి వచ్చి అడ్డముపడినది something has got in the way. వానికి అడ్డము తగిలినారు they interrupted him. కొంతదూరము దోవనే పోయి అవతల అడ్డము తిరిగినాడు or అడ్డము తొక్కినాడు he went along some way and then cut across. 'కరాగ్రములు దృష్టులకడ్డమిడుచు.' BD. iv. 1532. అడ్డముగా aḍḍamu-gā. [Tel.] adv. Crosswise, across, transversely. చెట్టు కండ్లకు అడ్డముగానున్నది the tree intercepts the view, నేను అడ్డముగా నిలిస్తిని I stood in his way.

(p. 45) adharmamu a-dharmamu. [Skt.] n. Injustice, unrighteousness, every thing unscriptural or contrary to principles. అన్యాయము, అనాచారము. అధర్మపరులు wicked persons.

(p. 85) arvācīnamu arvāchīnamu. [Skt.] adj Reverse, contrary. Recent, modern. క్రిందనుండునది, విపర్యస్తము.

(p. 105) ā The broad vowel A, as in arm, father. [The Secondary form of this letter is -- which is a modified form of the upright stroke | used to denote the long sound of a in Sanskrit. [The ingenuity of the inventors of the Indian Alphabets is shown by the way in which they formed the long vowels out of the short ones by giving a slightly different turn to their forms. See Taylor.] 2. The demonstrative sign, as ఆ పని that act, ఆ కథలు those stories, ఆ వెనుక after that, ఆ తెల్లవారి next morning. ఆ ఆ (or ఆయా) యిండ్లలో in the various houses. 3. As a contraction ఆ stands for ఆశ్వాసము chapter; also for a certain verse ఆటవెలడి of a certain metre. 4. As a Sanskrit prefix it means Upto, Until, As far as; as ఆచంద్రార్కము or ఆచంద్రతారకము as long as the moon and the sun or stars last. ఆజానువు to the knee. అపాదమత్తకము. from head to foot. ఆబాలగోపాలము up to or including the children and the shepherds. ఆసముద్రము as far as the sea. See ఆకంఠము and ఆచండాలము. 5. A Telugu affix denoting question, or surprise as అతడా (is it) he? 6. An interjection ఆ, or ఆ ఆ, or ఆహ Yes, Aye: or Ah! A. iv. 5.

(p. 116) āpōvu āpōvu.[Tel. from ఆ a contraction of ఆకలి hunger and పోవు to go or ఆదట+పోవు] v. n. To be satisfied. తృప్తినొందు.

(p. 124) ālāgu ā-lagu. [Tel. ఆ+లాగు] n. That way ఆలా āla. [Tel. ఆ+లాగు] adv. So, thus. (contracted from అలాగున). ఆలాగంటి ā-lāgaṇṭi. [Tel. ఆ+లాగు] adj. Such ఆలాగు, ఆలాగున, అలాగే, ālāgu. adv. Thus; so in that manner. ఆలాటి ālāṭi. adj. Such: like that.

(p. 137) imuḍu imuḍu. [Tel.] v. n. To be contained in, to remain, to stay. ఔషధము అతనికి ఇమడకపోయినది the medicine did not stay on his stomach. ఈ సమాచారము వానిలో ఇమిడి ఉండదు he will not be able to conceal this news. ఇముడుకొను imuḍu-konu. v. n. To be held or contained, ఇమడ్చుకొను. ఇముడ్చు or ఇముడుచు imuḍṭsu. v. a. To contain, hold, include, retrench, contract, abbreviate. ఇమడజేయు. ఇమిడిక imiḍika. n. Brevity, compactness. అణగియుండుట, చేరియుండుట.

(p. 134) izārā izārā. [H.] n. Farming, renting, a farming of the revenue customs, contract, monopoly. గుత్త. ఇ౛ారాదారుడు izārā-dāruḍu. Farmer, renter, contractor.
