(p. 9) aṇḍru anḍru. [Tel.] v. contraction of అందరు they will say.

(p. 30) aṭa ata. [Tel.] or అంట (contraction of అంటున్నారు they say) It is said, they say. వాడు వచ్చెనట they say he is come. రావటే for రావటవే, i.e., రానంటావే యేమే what, will you not come? కోపమటే, i.e., కోపమాయేమే what, are you angry? బాలుడటేనాడు what! do you call him a child? అటరా is a contraction for అంటావురా dost thou say so?

(p. 37) aḍucu aḍuṭsu. [Tel.] v. n. To close, to shut. మూసివేయు. అందులో నాలుగు వాకిళ్లు అడిచియున్నవి four of the gates are closed, ఆ గుడ్లను ఈ పెట్టెలో అడుచు (here అడుచు is for అణచు) cram the clothes into the box. Also, v. a. To beat, strike, thrash. To destroy కొట్టు, వళింపచేయు. 'ఎమ్ములిరియుగ శిలతో నడిచిన.' P. i. 729. అడుచుకొను aḍuṭsukonu. v. To contract, choke, be stopped. ఆ కాలవలో ఇసుక అడుచుకొన్నది the channel is choked with sand. వాని రొమ్మడుచుకొన్నది he has a contraction of the chest. గొంతు అడుచుకొన్నది, మాట్లాడకూడలేదు his throat is hoarse, he cannot speak.

(p. 105) ā The broad vowel A, as in arm, father. [The Secondary form of this letter is -- which is a modified form of the upright stroke | used to denote the long sound of a in Sanskrit. [The ingenuity of the inventors of the Indian Alphabets is shown by the way in which they formed the long vowels out of the short ones by giving a slightly different turn to their forms. See Taylor.] 2. The demonstrative sign, as ఆ పని that act, ఆ కథలు those stories, ఆ వెనుక after that, ఆ తెల్లవారి next morning. ఆ ఆ (or ఆయా) యిండ్లలో in the various houses. 3. As a contraction ఆ stands for ఆశ్వాసము chapter; also for a certain verse ఆటవెలడి of a certain metre. 4. As a Sanskrit prefix it means Upto, Until, As far as; as ఆచంద్రార్కము or ఆచంద్రతారకము as long as the moon and the sun or stars last. ఆజానువు to the knee. అపాదమత్తకము. from head to foot. ఆబాలగోపాలము up to or including the children and the shepherds. ఆసముద్రము as far as the sea. See ఆకంఠము and ఆచండాలము. 5. A Telugu affix denoting question, or surprise as అతడా (is it) he? 6. An interjection ఆ, or ఆ ఆ, or ఆహ Yes, Aye: or Ah! A. iv. 5.

(p. 116) āpōvu āpōvu.[Tel. from ఆ a contraction of ఆకలి hunger and పోవు to go or ఆదట+పోవు] v. n. To be satisfied. తృప్తినొందు.

(p. 144) īḍupu or ఈడ్పు īḍupu. [Tel.] n. Pulling, dragging, impetus, hard breathing. A stitch in the side, the contraction of a limb. నీళ్లు నిండా యీడ్చుగానున్నవి the water runs here with a great draught. ఈడుపు or పొదికట్టు the sill, the side post of a door.

(p. 147) u . In poetry denotes a stanza in the metre named ఉత్పలమాల. The character ఉ. in common business is used as a contraction for ఉత్తరము an answer, as ప్ర. means a question.

(p. 215) oḷlō oḷḷō. [Tel.] A contraction for ఒడిలో. See ఒడి.

(p. 338) kluptamu kluptamu. [for Skt. క్లుప్తము.] adj. Brief, contracted, short. సంక్షిప్తము. Settled, determined. ఏర్పాటు చేయబడిన. 'వారక్లుప్తముల్' A. v. 164. క్లుప్తాక్షరము klupt-āksharamu. n. A contraction or abbreviation.

(p. 362) gā gā. [Tel.] v. n. To contraction for గదా or కదా as వచ్చినది వాడుగా it was he who came most likely, or, I suppose.

(p. 363) gātramu gātramu. [Skt.] n. The body, a member a limb, a part. శరీరము, అనయవము. adj. Big. స్థూలము. గాత్రసంకోచి contractile, drawing itself up, as an animal before making a spring.

(p. 672) nū A contraction for నూవు or నువ్వు 'sesamum' and also for నును 'soft.' See నూవు.

(p. 784) peṃ or పెమ్ pem. [Tel.] n. A contraction for పెను large. పెంజిలువ (పెను+చిలువ) n. A large rock snake పెంణజీకటి pen-jīkaṭi. Thick darkness. The compounds (సమాసములు) in which it thus appears in an abbreviated form are as follow: - పెంజెమట pen-jemaṭa n. Profuse perspiration. పెంజెర pen-jera. (పెమ+జెర్రి.) n. A kind of rock snake, the boa constrictor. రక్తపెంజెర a red snake. తుచ్చుపెంజెర or తుస్సుపెంజెర and పొట్టపెంజెర are other other species. పెంజడ pen-ḍzaḍa. n. A large tress, పెం౛డ. పెం౛ుట్టుచెట్టు pen-ḍzaṭṭa-cheṭṭu. n. A jungle shrub. పెం౛ొర pen-ḍzora. (పెను+చొర.) n. A certain large fish. The great shark. 'మున్నీటంబెంజొరదరసిపోవవు చందంబున.' See సొర్ర. పెందడి pen-daḍi. (పెను+తడి.) n. Mud. పెందడి రాతిపని work done with stone and mud. 'ఇందూపలస్యందంబులకు విందులగు నిందీవరమక రందంబుల బెందడింబడి బందనగొనువలి మించు క్రొమ్మంచుటౌదరుల నీదియీది.' Swa. iii. 38. టీ ఇందీవరమకరందంబుల బెందడింబడి, నల్లగలువ పూదేనియలయొక్క రొంపినిబడి. పెందలకడ or పెందలాడ pen-dala-kaḍa. (పెను+తల+కడ.) adv. Early, betimes, quickly, hastily. In the twilight. (p. 990) mu mu. [Tel.] n. An affix of neuter nouns and of masculine nouns that take neuter form as కళత్రము, అపత్యము. In composition, it is contraction for మూడు three, and the first consonant of the next word is usually doubled. Thus మారు a time, ముమ్మారు three times, thrice. పాతిక a quarter, ముప్పాతిక three quarters. ముక్కన్ను (మూడు + కన్ను) the third eye, మూడవ కన్ను. ముక్కాక threefold heat. ముక్కాని (మూడు + కాని) three quarters of an anna. ముక్కారు (మూడు + కారు) three seasons. ముక్కాలు (మూడు + కాలు) three legs or three quarters of anything .ముక్కాలిపీట a three-legged stool. ముక్కోల (మూడు + కోల) a trident, త్రిదండము. మముజ్జగము or ముల్లోకములు the three worlds, viz., earth, heaven and hell. మువ్వన్నె the three (primary) colors.
