(p. 76) āyanamu ayanamu. [Skt.] n. Road, path. Half a year. Motion, course. మార్గము, అర్ధవత్సరము, సూర్యుని దక్షిణోత్తరగతి. ఉత్తరాయనము or ఉత్తరాయణము the sun's course for six months in the northern constellations of the zodiac. దక్షిణాయనము the sun's course for six months in the southern constellations of the zodiac. అయనకాలము the interval between the equinoxes. ఆయన భాగము the arc between the vernal equinoctial point and the beginning of the fixed zodiac or first point in Aries. ఆయన వలనము deviation of the ecliptic. అయనవృత్తము the ecliptic.

(p. 126) āvahamu ā-vahamu. [Skt.] adj. That which produces. కలిగించునది. భయాహము producing or causing fear. ఆవహించు or ఆవహిల్లు āvahinṭsu. v. n. To arise in the mind, as joy or any passion. To enter as a spirit into the body, the spirit of a deity to possess an idol. వానిని పిశాచము ఆవహించినది a devil seized him.

(p. 164) upāyamu upāyamu. [Skt.] n. A contrivance, expedient, means, method, agency. వెరవు. ఉపాయము కల్పించు to contrive. చతురుపాయములు or ఉపాయచతుష్టయము, the four devices, i.e., సామము using gentle or pacific means, దానము giving presents or bribing, భేదము sowing dissensions among the enemy or dividing his force or strength, దండము punishment. ఉపాయముగా upāyamu-gā. adv. Cleverly, artfully. ఉపాయశాలి upāya-ṣāli. n. A clever man, a man of tact, a man of many devices.

(p. 187) ettu ettu. [Tel.] n. 1. Height. ఉన్నతము. 2. Weight: బరువు, తూనిక. The weight of a quarter of a maund, i. e., two viss, or, six pounds and a quarter రెండువీసెలకొలది. (A. v. 96.) A wreath of flowers. పువ్వుటెత్తు, పుష్పసరము. A move at chees చదరంగపుఎత్తు; hence (metaphorically) a contrivance, a trick, ఉపాయము; an effort. ప్రయత్నము. ఎత్తులమారి a clever man. ఎత్తుకట్టు or ఎత్తుచూచు to weigh, to try. ఎత్తుకు ఎత్తు a Roland for an Oliver, one device against another. ఎత్తు ettu adj. High, heavy. ఎత్తుపయనము a sudden journey.

A forged coin. సీసకట్టు రూపాయి a leaden rupee. వెండికట్టు a silvered coin. జాతికట్టు the tie of kindred, the custom of the caste. మంత్రకట్టు fascination, charming by spells. మడికట్టు a waistband or girdle, నీరుకట్టు a stoppage of urine. వలకట్టు a weir in a river, posts to fasten a net to ఈ యింటిలో ముందరికట్టు పెద్దది వెనకటికట్టు చిన్నది the front of this house is larger than the back rooms.
