(p. 1396) aḍāvaḍi , అడావిడి or అడావుడి aḍāvaḍi. [Tel.] n. Neglect, carelessness, want to restraint. అడావుడిసంస్ధానము a neglected estate. అడావుజిమవిషి a person devoid of self-restraint. 'ఇంట్లోపెండ్లిఅయతే ఊళ్లోకుక్కలకు అడావుడి' (proverb.)

(p. 47) adhyavasāyamu adhyavasāyamu. [Skt.] n. Perṣeverance, devotedness. ఉత్సాహము, ప్రయత్నము, పట్టు, పూనిక, శ్రద్ధ. In rhetoric, concise and forcible language.

(p. 61) apathyamu a-pathyamu. [Skt.] n. An error in diet, a deviation from పథ్యము or prescribed regimen. వైద్యుడు కారాదన్న దాన్ని తినడము.

(p. 78) aradevulu ara-devulu. [Tel.] n. Consumption, phthisis. క్షయరోగము. 'అమ్మహాత్ముగోపించియరదెవులుంగొనమని శపించిననయ్యో షధీనాధుండు నానాటికింగృశుండయ్యె.' M. IX. ii. 166.

(p. 80) arasikuḍu a-rasikuḍu. [Tel.] One devoid of taste of art.

(p. 76) āyanamu ayanamu. [Skt.] n. Road, path. Half a year. Motion, course. మార్గము, అర్ధవత్సరము, సూర్యుని దక్షిణోత్తరగతి. ఉత్తరాయనము or ఉత్తరాయణము the sun's course for six months in the northern constellations of the zodiac. దక్షిణాయనము the sun's course for six months in the southern constellations of the zodiac. అయనకాలము the interval between the equinoxes. ఆయన భాగము the arc between the vernal equinoctial point and the beginning of the fixed zodiac or first point in Aries. ఆయన వలనము deviation of the ecliptic. అయనవృత్తము the ecliptic.

(p. 126) āvahamu ā-vahamu. [Skt.] adj. That which produces. కలిగించునది. భయాహము producing or causing fear. ఆవహించు or ఆవహిల్లు āvahinṭsu. v. n. To arise in the mind, as joy or any passion. To enter as a spirit into the body, the spirit of a deity to possess an idol. వానిని పిశాచము ఆవహించినది a devil seized him.

(p. 129) āsakti ā-sakti. [Skt.] n. Love, attachment, inclination, longing, whim. ఆస. Diligence. శ్రద్ధ. ఆసక్తము ā-saktamu. adj. Inclined to, devoted to one object, diligent. active, addicted to. ఆసక్తుడు ā-saktuḍu. n. An aspirant, devotee, lover. A man of diligence. ఆసక్తికలవాడు.

(p. 141) ivamu ivamu. (from Skt. హిమము) n. Cold frost, dew. మంచు. ఇవముకొను ivamu-konu. v. n. To become wet. తడియు. ఇవముమేపరి or ఇవముసూడు ivamu-mēpari n. The devourer of the damp. The sun. సూర్యుడు.

(p. 152) uḍuta or ఉడత uḍuta. [Tel.] n. A squirrel. ఉడుతభక్తి the squirrel's devotion, Kuchēlo. i. 130 (When Rāma was building his bridge between Ceylon and the mainland, the squirrel came to lend his little aid: Rama in approbation stroked the squirrel down the back, which accounts for the white marks seen upon it.)

(p. 164) upāyamu upāyamu. [Skt.] n. A contrivance, expedient, means, method, agency. వెరవు. ఉపాయము కల్పించు to contrive. చతురుపాయములు or ఉపాయచతుష్టయము, the four devices, i.e., సామము using gentle or pacific means, దానము giving presents or bribing, భేదము sowing dissensions among the enemy or dividing his force or strength, దండము punishment. ఉపాయముగా upāyamu-gā. adv. Cleverly, artfully. ఉపాయశాలి upāya-ṣāli. n. A clever man, a man of tact, a man of many devices.

(p. 164) upāsana upāsana. [Skt.] n. Service, worship. సేవ, ఆరాధనము. ఉపాసించు upāsinṭsu. v. t. To wait on, worship. సేవించు, ఆరాధించు. ఉపాసకుడు upāṣakuḍu. n. A worshipper, a devotee. ఆరాధకుడు. ఉపాస్తి upāsti. n. Service, worship. ఉపాసన. V. P. iv. 143. ఉపాసితుడు ūpāsituḍu. n. One who is worshipped. సేవితుడు. ఉపాస్యుడు ūpāsyuḍu. n. One who is fit to be worshipped సేవ్యుడు.

(p. 187) ettu ettu. [Tel.] n. 1. Height. ఉన్నతము. 2. Weight: బరువు, తూనిక. The weight of a quarter of a maund, i. e., two viss, or, six pounds and a quarter రెండువీసెలకొలది. (A. v. 96.) A wreath of flowers. పువ్వుటెత్తు, పుష్పసరము. A move at chees చదరంగపుఎత్తు; hence (metaphorically) a contrivance, a trick, ఉపాయము; an effort. ప్రయత్నము. ఎత్తులమారి a clever man. ఎత్తుకట్టు or ఎత్తుచూచు to weigh, to try. ఎత్తుకు ఎత్తు a Roland for an Oliver, one device against another. ఎత్తు ettu adj. High, heavy. ఎత్తుపయనము a sudden journey.

(p. 187) ettugaḍa ettu-gaḍa. [Tel.] n. An endeavour, project. A contrivance. A manœuvre, device, trick. యత్నము, ఉపాయము. ఎత్తుగడ చేయు to endeavour.
