(p. 165) uppara or ఉప్పరి uppara. [Tel.] n. The name of the mining caste who are tank diggers and makers of wells, &c. ఉప్పరవాడు a man of this caste. ఉప్పరిది a female of that caste.

(p. 209) oḍḍe oḍḍe. [Tel.] n. Drudgery: mean toil. As a proper name ఒడ్డెదేశము, or ఒఢ్రదేశము Orissa. ఒడ్డెవాండ్లు tank diggers, navvies.

(p. 242) kannamu kannamu. [Tel.] n. A hole made by burglars through a wall. నేలకన్నము a way dug under a wall by thieves. BD. v. 701. కన్నపుకత్తి kannapu-katti. n. A housebreaker's wrench. A sharpened bar of iron to bore a hole through a wall. కన్నపుముట్టు or కన్నకోల kannapu-muṭṭu. A crowbar used in digging such a hole; called in thieves' slang, a jemmy, betty, or a rook. కన్నముపెట్టు or కన్నమువేయు kannamu-peṭṭu. v. n. To commit burglary, to dig through a wall.

(p. 255) karramaḍa karramaḍa. [Tel.] n. A digging instrument. తవ్వే ఆయుధము.

(p. 273) kāya kāya. [Tel. from కాచు.] n. 1. A green unripe fruit. అరటికాయలు green plantains. 2. A nut, berry, pod, bulb, knob, head. 3. Anything round, as the head (తలకాయ) the bob of a plummet: a boss or round piece. 4. The word is used for a thing or article: as a piece at chess తుంటకాయ a wicked thing or creature. 5. A pimple: a wart. తవ్వడముచేత వాడిచేతులు కాయలుకాచినవి his hands are callous or hard with digging: he has a wart on his hand. 7. A bottle. రెండు కాయలను ఒకడే తీసుకొన్నాడు he alone drank two bottles. 8. As an affix it often leaves the sense unaltered: thus తల or తలకాయ the head. పిల్ల or పిల్లకాయ a child. గొంతు or గొంతుకాయ the throat. పుస్తె or పుస్తెకాయ a marriage token worn on the neck మొట్టు or మొట్టికాయ a blow or knock. ఎండ్రకాయ a crab. చెంపకాయ a slap on the cheek. Some fruits are called కాయ even though ripe, thus (from టెంకి shell) టెంకాయ a cocoanut. మిరపకాయ a chillie. ఉల్లికాయ an onion. కూరగాయలు or కాయగూరలు vegetables. కాయధాన్యములు kāya-dhānyamulu. n. Pulse: all sorts of grain contained in pods: as పెసలు, కందులు, సెనగలు, &c.

(p. 328) kōla kōla. [Tel.] n. A staff. దండము. An arrow బాణము. అంపకోలలు arrows. తవ్వుకోల, పంటికోల or మునిగోల a hoe or digging staff. చేరుకుగోల a sugar-cane. కోలలవారు staff-bearers వేత్రధరలు. కోలలేనిపెట్టు తాడులేనికట్టు you feel the blow of an invisible rod: you are bound in viewless ties. (Used of a Government) 'సీ శల్యు నారాచపంచకముననొప్పించి, యొకకోలగృతవర్మ నురుమునొంచి.' M. VI. 342.

(p. 344) khātamu khātamu. [Skt. ఖన్ = to dig.] n. A hollow, cavern, pit. A pond కోనేరు. దేవఖాతము a natural cavern, as being formed by God. బంగాళాఖాతము the bay of Bengal. ఖాతకుడు khātakuḍu. n. A digger. తవ్వేవాడు.

(p. 593) diggiya or డిగ్గియ diggiya. [Tel. from దిగు.] n. A lake, a large pond. దీర్ఘిక, బొడ్డనబావి.

(p. 593) diggu Same as దిగు. (q. v.) దిగ్గు diggu. [Tel.] n. Fear. భయము. దిగ్గురను or దిగ్గను diggu-r-anu. v. n. To shudder, to be alarmed. భయపడు. దిగ్గన or దిగ్గున digg-ana. adv. Suddenly, at once. తటాలున. దిగ్గునలేచు to start up, to jump up.

(p. 593) diggōlu dig-gōlu. [Tel.] n., The last crop reaped before the one which is ripening. కోయపయిరునకు ముందుపయిరు.

(p. 723) palaganduḍu pala-ganḍuḍu. [Skt.] n. A brick layer, a plasterer. సున్నపు పూతపూయువాడు. A tank-digger or excavator. ఉప్పరివాడు.

(p. 781) pūrti pūrti. [Skt.] n. Fullness, భర్తీ, నిండుట. Completion, termination, end, సమాప్తి. పూర్తము pūrtamu. adj. Filled, full, complete. నింపబడిన, Covered, concealed, కప్పబడిన. n. An act of beneficence, as digging a well or tank, planting a grove, building a temple, feeding the poor, &c. Nourishing, cherishing. పాలనము.

An oven constructed with bricks or three pieces of stone placed like a triangle. గాడిపొయ్యి gāḍi-poyyi. n. An oven which is made by digging a long narrow pit in the ground. గుంటపొయ్యి gunṭa-poyyi. n. An oven formed by digging a pit in the ground.

(p. 899) bellu or పెళ్ల bellu. [Tel.] n. A flake of earth, &c. బెల్లుతవ్వించు bellu-tavvinṭsu. v. n. To dig or break up ground. బెల్లుదుక్కి digging in lieu of ploughing. బెల్లు విరవడము to break up fallow ground. (These phrases are used in the western part of the country.)
