A wreck, waste, ruin, desolation. శూన్యము. A village. పల్లె. పాడుచేయు pāḍu-chēyu. v. a. To spoil. To waste, ruin, throw away. పాడుపడు, పాడరు or పాడు పారు pāḍu-paḍu. v. n. To become waste or desolate. పాడునుయ్యి pāḍu-nuyyi. n. A disused well.

(p. 738) pānamu pānamu. [Skt.] n. Drinking. Also, a draught (of water, &c.) అన్నపానాదులు food and raiment. పానకము pānakamu. n. A sweet drink, a beverage made of sugar and water and drunk as sherbet. పానకపూజ a certain rite performed in the hot weather, when they hold a feast of cooling diets and drinks, with amusements. A. ii. 84. 88. పానగోష్ఠి or పానగోష్ఠిక pāna-gōshṭhi n. A dram shop, a place where people drink together. Vish. P. viii. 45. పానముచేయు pānamu-chēyu. v. a. To drink.

(p. 818) pōṭu pōṭu. [Tel.] n. A thrust, a stab, a blow. పొడుపు. కత్తిపోటు. A throb of pain. పోదుపు, నొప్పి. The swell of a river, or of the sea, the flow of the tides, high water, సముద్రోల్పణము, నద్యాదులజలవృద్ధి. Heroism, courage, శౌర్యము. A battle, యుద్ధము. వాడు ఇప్పుడు కొంచెము పోటుమీద నున్నాడు he is now drunk. 'నా కొడుకు పోటుమాటలు, నీకేటికి పొసగవాడ.' M. IV. v. 258. పోటుమాటలు అనగా ఎత్తిపొడుపుమాటలు. చెవిపోటు chevi-pōṭu. n. Ear-ache. ఆ కురుపు పోట్లు పొడుస్తున్నది the boil is throbbing. పోటాపోటీ pōṭā-pōṭī. n. Rivalry, emulation, competition, నీకంటే నాకనిపయిబడడము. వానికి నిన్న దర్భపోటుతగిలినది he was invited to the ceremony held on the anniversary of a man's father's death. పోటుపాటు ఎరిగినవాడు one who knows both sides of the question పోటాడు or పోటొగ్గు to get ready for battle. రణోద్యోగము చేయు. పోటుకంబము pōṭu-kambamu. n. A post or pillar which is set up as a prop, ఊతగానిలిపినస్తంభము. పోటుకలుపు pōṭu-kalupu. n. A second weeding, రెండవమారు తీయు కలుపు. పోటుకాడు, పోటుబంటు, పోటుమగడు or పోటుమానిసి pōṭu-kāḍu. n. A hero, a courageous man, శూరుడు. పోటుకోల pōṭu-kōla. n. A sharp pointed stick used as a prop. 'వలలును దెరలు ప్రోగులు చుట్టగాలేదు, పోటుకోలొకటియు బుచ్చలేదు, తెగిన మెకంబుల తేలేదు.' Dhurjati. iii. 96. పోటుగంప pōṭu-gampa. n. A large basket. పోటుపాటు pōṭu-pāṭu. n. The ebb and flow of a tide. Paidim. i. 86. 'నీపోటుపాటున నిపుడిట్లు మమ్ము బోరించితివి.' HD. ii. 1196. నీపోటుపాటున, నీవెచ్చి తగ్గుటచేతను. పోటెక్కించినవాడు pōt-ekkinchina-vāḍu. n. An assailant, one who attacks. ఎదిరించి పైకి వచ్చేవాడు.' పోటెక్కించినవారిమీద ప్రయోగించినవాని సమరపతి వధియించుననియును బెద్దలవలన వినియుందుము.' M. VII. iii. 96. పోటొడ్డు pōt-oḍḍu. v. n. To face in battle, to oppose. యుద్ధానిముఖుడగు. 'పొడిసింగరాజు పోటొడ్డినాడు.' Pal. 410. పోట్లాట pōḷl-āṭa. (పోటులు+ఆట.) n. Fighting; a struggle, dispute, యుద్ధము, కొట్టాట. పోట్లాడు or పోటులాడు pōṭl-āḍu. v. n. To fight, to battle, to struggle, to come to blows. యుద్ధముచేయు. పోట్లావు pōṭl-āvu. n. The male of certain birds, animals and plants, పశు పక్షులలోమగది. ఆబోతు an ox, వృషభము. ఎనుబోతు a male buffalo. మేకపోతు a he-goat, a ram. నక్కపోతు a male fox. గొడ్డుపోతు a barren woman. పోతుటీగ a male fly. పోతుటేనుగు a male elephant. పోతుకరుడు the bigger surf, పెద్దఅల. పోతుతాడు the male palm tree. పోతురౌతు, an epithet of Yama, the god of Death, యముడు. పోతుపిల్ల, a male young one. పశుజాతిలో మగపిల్ల. పోతుపిల్లి a tom cat. పోతు sometimes means one who is addicted to, as తాగుబోతు a drunkard. తిండిబోతు a glutton. తూగుపోతు a sluggard వదురుబోతు a chatter box. పోతుపిచ్చిక or పెద్దపిచ్చిక pōtu-pichchika. n. The Ashy-crowned Finch Lark. Pyrrhulauda grisca. (F.B.I.) పోతురాజు or పోతరాజు pōtu-rāḍsu. n. The name of a rustic god, like Pan, worshipped throughout the Telugu, Canarese and Mahratta countries. He represents the male principle associated with the village goddesses Gangamma, Peddamma, &c. A proverb says పాడుఊరికి మంచపుకోడుపోతురాజు in a ruined village the leg of a cot is a god. cf., 'a Triton of the minnows' (Shakespeare.) బమ్మెరపోతరాజు the name of a certain poet. పోతులరాజు pōtula-rāḍzu. n. A name given to a large hound.

(p. 835) pramattamu pra-mattamu. [Skt.] adj. Very intoxicated. మిక్కిలి మదించిన, మిక్కిలి మత్తెక్కిన. Insane, వెర్రి. R. vi. 149. ప్రమత్తుడు pra-mattuḍu. n. A very drunk man.

(p. 947) mattamu mattamu. [Skt.] adj. Intoxicated, drunk, tipsy. Infatuated, wanton, lustful. Mad, insane. Proud, gay, merry. మత్తగజము, మత్తవారణము or మత్తేభము an elephant in rut. మత్తచకోరము the amorous dove, the lovelorn nightingale. మత్తకాశిని or మత్తకాసిని matta-kāṣini. n. A wanton woman. మదించిన స్త్రీ. మత్తకోకిల matta-kōkila. n. The name of a certain Telugu metre. మత్తి matti. n. Intoxication, amorous desire. కామము. మత్తికాడు matti-kāḍu. n. A lewd wretch. కాముకుడు. An impudent fellow. తలకొవ్వినవాడు. 'చిక్కెజోనెడునాచేమత్తికాడు, చిక్కులబెట్టి శాశికుని మెప్పింతు.' HD. ii. 535. మత్తు or మత్తా mattu. [from Skt.] n. Intoxication, drunkenness, pride, arrogance. కైపు, మయికము, మదము. మత్తు ఔషధము an intoxicating drug. మత్తిలు, మత్తిల్లు or మత్తుగొను mattilu. v. n. To be intoxicated, to be inebriated. నిషాచేయు, మదించు, కైపెక్కు. మత్తుడు mattuḍu. n. A drunkard, a lustful man. A proud man. మత్తుగొన్నవాడు, మదించినవాడు. మత్తేభము mattē-bhamu. n. The name of a Telugu Metre.

(p. 949) madyamu madyamu. [Skt.] n. An intoxicating drink, toddy, liquor. కల్లు, సారాయి, సుర. మద్యపాయి a wine-bibber, a drunkard, మద్యపానము wine drinking. మద్యపానము మానుము give up drink.

(p. 1111) loṭṭi loṭṭi. [Tel.] n. The small earthen pot used in drawing toddy from the tree. చెట్టునకల్లునొడిచేకుండ. 'మొలచుట్టున్వడదోలు దాననగు బల్మోకావయిన్ గీతక, త్తులు మారేముసలంబు వామభుజమందుం గానికిర్వంకలన్, కలులొట్లొండెడ కట్లనిచ్చెన పిరుందం గొమ్మకాల్చందమున్. తలకోరాముడిగుడ్డయుం దవరప్రాతః కాలమందెప్పుడున్.' (p. 1269) saṃ or సమ్ sam. [Skt.] prefix. When used with Skt. nouns and adjectives, it means beautiful, చక్కని. Much, very, మిక్కిలి. Places before verbs, it means Well, చక్కగా.
