(p. 21) akṣatalu akshatalu. [Skt.] vulgarly అక్షింతలు n.plu. (lit. unbroken grains.) Grains of raw rice, made yellow with saffron. The red mark worn by some Hindus on the forehead formed of saffron and slaked lime. పసుపురాచిన బియ్యము, పేలాలు. నొసటను పెట్టుకోవడమునకై పసుపు సున్నము కలిపిన బొట్టు.

(p. 38) aḍḍamu or అడ్డమైన aḍḍamu. [Tel.] adj. Cross. నన్ను అడ్డమైన మాటలు ఆడినాడు he reviled me. అడ్డమైనకూళ్లు any food that comes to the hand. నాకు అడ్డమైనపని పెట్టుతున్నాడు he employs me in anything that comes to hand. వాడు అడ్డదోవలు తొక్కుచున్నాడు he goes the wrong way to work. అడ్డకట్ట aḍḍa-kaṭṭa. [Tel.] n. A dam or bank, an embankment. సేతువు, చేలకు నీళ్లు నిలిచేటందుకు కట్టిన గట్టు. అడ్డకత్తి aḍḍakatti. A broad sword. పట్టిసము. అడ్డకమ్మి aḍḍa-kammi. A cross piece, the cross selvage in cloth. అడ్డకర్ర aḍḍa-karra. A cross-piece of timber: an obstacle: a bar. విఘూతము. నా పనికి అడ్డకర్రలు వేయుచున్నాడు he throws difficulties in my way. See అడ్డము. అడ్డగోడ addagōḍa a cross-wall. అడ్డచాపు aḍḍa-tṣāpu. A cross beam. అడ్డవాసము. అడ్డతల aḍḍa-tala. A narrow projecting head: having a narrow fore head. నిడుపు తల. అడ్డదూలము aḍḍa-dūlamu. A cross beam. అడ్డదోవ aḍḍa-dōva. A crossway. అడ్డపలక aḍḍa-palaka. A cross plank. అడ్డపట్టె. aḍḍa-paṭṭe. A thick board drawn by two oxen used for smoothing a ploughed field after the grain is sown. మడిసమముచేసే మాను. అడ్డుపడు aḍḍa-paḍu. [Tel.] v. n. To interpose, to help; to obstruct, impede. విఘూతమగు, వారించు. నా పనికి అడ్డుపడ్డాడు he threw obstacles in my way. భార్యను కొట్టబోతే కొడుకు అడ్డుపడినాడు as he was going to strike his wife his son interposed. నేనడ్డపడకపోతే వాండ్లు వత్తురు had I not interposed they would have died. అడ్డపాటు aḍḍa-pāṭu. [Tel.] n. Obstacle, hindrance, obstruction. అడ్డి, విఘ్నము. అడ్డబాస aḍḍa-bāsa. n. A nose jewel. బులాకి. అడ్డబొట్టు aḍḍa-boṭṭu. A cross mark worn by the Hindus on their fore-head. అడ్డమాను aḍḍa-mānu. A cross bar. వాడు అడ్డవాట్లు వేస్తున్నాడు he throws impediments in the way.

(p. 103) asura or అసురుడు asura. [Skt. lit. 'Assyrian'.] n. A demon, giant. రాక్షసుడు. The Asuras were such as Rāvaṇa and Bana, who were adorers of Siva. అసురకృత్యము a horrible deed. అసురధ్రువము asura-dhruvamu n. The south pole. దక్షిణధ్రమము. అసురసంధ్య asura-sandhya n. The dusk, the evening. సాయంకాలము. (In the Vedas and in the cuneiform inscriptions, the word అసుర is used in the sense of (1) a nobleman, (2) a powerful being, (3) a god. In later Skt. literature, it is always used in an evil sense.)

(p. 108) āku āku. [Tel.] n. A leaf of any sort. A petal. పత్రము, దళము. A betel, or palmyra leaf; also the leaf on which the Hindus eat their food. విస్తరాకు An ear-ring. చెవి కమ్మ. Young rice (paddy) not yet transplanted. Any herb: young sprouts of corn. A flake as ఆకు ఉప్పు a flake of salt. Any filament. The radius or spoke of a wheel. The shutter of a blind. ఆకులతలుపు a venetian door. Also, a chit, note or short letter. చీటి; a loan bond. ఇచ్చిపుచ్చుకోలు పత్రము. This word prefixed to others generally denotes green; as ఆకుతేలు a green scorpion, and ఆకుమిడత a green cricket. ఆడంగులకంటె మగవారు ఏడాకులు ఎక్కువ చదివినారు men have read seven pages further than women; that is, men are tenfold worse than women; or, are their masters in wickedness. నీ పేరు ఆకునపోకన అంటకుండా చెప్పుతాను. I shall mention (or use) your name with great caution. ఆకు అలము āku-alamu. n. Greens, herbs, vegetables. (The word అలము here has no definite sense.) ఆకుకూరలు or కూరాకులు āku-kūralu. n. Potherbs, garden stuff. ఆకు చాటున āku-ṭsāṭana. adj. In ambush, hidden, veiled, screened. ఆకుచిరుతపులి āku-chiruta-puli. n. A small species of leopard. ఆకుచిలక āku-chilaka. n. A butterfly, or a green parrot. ఆకుజెముడు āku-jemuḍu. n. The oleander-leaved spurge. Emphorbia Neriifolia. (See జెముడు.) ఆకుటిల్లు āku-ṭillu. n. A booth or hut of leaves, an arbor of leaves. ఆకుటింట in a booth. ఆకుతీగ the vine that produces the tamala (or betel) leaf. ఆకు తోట a betel garden: a garden in which plants are reared. ఆకుపచ్చ āku-paṭṭsa. n. The colour called sap green. ఆకుపత్రి చెట్టు āku-pattri-cheṭṭu. n. The clove tree. Cassia lignea. a certain game. (H. iii. 190). āka-rarugu. n. A green caterpillar. ఆకుపోత āku-pōta. n. Transplantation of a green crop. ఆకుపోయు āku-pōyu. v. a. To transplant corn. To set the sprouts. ఆకుమడి āku-maḍi. n. A field sown, but the sprouts of which are to be transplanted. (also, called నారుమడి.) ఆకుమడుపు āku-maḍupu. n. A roll of betel leaf. A mode of measurement. ఆకు మొలకాకు The self planting herb. ఆకురాయి āku-rāyi. n. A file (i.e., ఆకు a filament రాయు to rub off.) Also the name of a bird, the cuckoo (F.B.I.) బలుపాకురాయి or ముల్లాకురాయి (from ముల్లు a thorn) a rasp. కత్తి ఆకురాయి a sharp thin file for cutting combs. కమ్మి ఆకురాయి a very small file. వట్రనాకురాయి a three sided file.

(p. 112) āḍēlu aḍēlu. [Skt.] n. A night hawk (HD. ii. 2887.) ఆడేలువలె కదలకుండా ఉన్నావు you are as sluggish as a night hawk. శరారి, or రామశాంక Tardus. Ginginianus. A species of thrush. The buzzard; gerfalcon See Jerdon's Catal. No. 21.

(p. 142) isuka or ఇసక isuka. [Tel.] n. Sand. బంగారు ఇసుక gold dust. ఇసుకపాతర a sand pit, confusion, a puzzle. ఇసుకదాసరి కూర isuka-dāsari-kūra. n. A certain herb. ఇసుకదిన్నె or ఇసుకదిబ్బ isuka-dinne. n. A sand bank. See తిన్నె. ఇసుకదొండు or ఇసుకదొందు isuka-doṇḍu. n. The fish called white caboose, or river whiting, dragonet: (it is somewhat cylindrical, with a thick tail.) ఇసుకపర్ర isuka-parra. A sandy waste. ఇసుకబేలు isukabēlu. A creeping plant, of great beauty. ఇసుకమాను isuka-mānu. A tree (Tapia cratoeva or capparis trifoliata) ఉలిమిడి చెట్టు, వరుణ వృక్షము.

(p. 239) kaduṣṇamu kadushṇamu. [Skt. కత్+ఉష్ణము.] n. Gentle warmth. కొంచెమువేడి. adj. Warm.

(p. 261) kaḷa or కల kaḷa. [Skt.] n. A degree, or sub-division. భాగము. That which proceeds by degrees, as effect, virtue, potency, influence, inclination. A ray or light. Look or appearance. A phase of the moon, of which the Hindus reckon sixteen. The degree in which one night's moon-light differs from that of the next. ముప్పది కాష్ఠలకాలము. చంద్రునిలో పదునారవ భాగము. In Telugu Grammar, a word that does not end with an N sound. A note, as being a subdivision of music. The nerves or ticklish parts of the body. దీపముయొక్క కళ the brightness of lamp. అతని ముఖ కళ his air, the effect of his features. పిచ్చికళ a look of madness. క్రూరకళ an angry look. నిద్రకళ drowsiness. కళాస్థానములు the nerves.
