(p. 222) ?E0 The Sunna, anuswaram, or circle used for ణ, న, మ: as అండము aṇḍamu, an egg: సంతానము santānamu. Offspring: కంబు kambu, a shell. The half nasal 'ఁ' or semi circle is not used in modern Telugu, though some Pundits have made many efforts to introduce it.

(p. 32) aṭṭahāsamu aṭṭa-hāsamu. [Skt.] n. Violent, phrenzied laughter. Vehement action, exceeding effort or exertion. Toil, pains, laborious efforts. Pomp. 'అట్టహాసంబున నడరెడు తెరనూరు.' N. ix. 31. నా కూతురిని పంపితేనేగాని కూడదని అట్టహాసము చేస్తాడు he protests violently that his daughter shall go with him. రాజు బహు అట్టహాసముతో బయలుదేరినాడు the king set out with great pomp. అట్టహాసకాడు n. A pompous or ostentatious man.

(p. 51) anāyāsamu an-āyāsamu. [Skt.] adv. Without pains or effort, easily, readily, సులభముగా.

(p. 66) aprayatnamu a-prayatnamu. [Skt.] n. Absence of effort, indifference.

(p. 70) abhiyōgamu abhi-yōgamu. [Skt.] n. Application, strong effort; challenging to fight. అభియోగపత్రము a complaint made in writing, a plaint. అభియోగి abhi-yōgi. [Skt.] n. A plaintiff, an enemy.

(p. 76) ayatnamu a-yatnamu. [Skt.] adj. Unintentional, unpremediated, done without effort. అనుద్యమమైన. n. Absence of intention or attempt.

(p. 155) utthānamu utthānamu. [Skt.] n. Rising: effort: an army, war. ఉత్థాపనము utthāpanamu. n. Rising: erection. లేపుట. ఉత్థాపనము లేని impotent. మృతకోత్ధాపనము resurrection. పునరుత్థానము resurrection.

(p. 172) uvvu uvvu. [Tel.] n. Attempt, exertion, effort. పూనిక, ఉవ్వెత్తు uvv-eṭṭu. adj. All యావతు. 'ఒకల్క మాత్రలోని నువ్వెత్తు గొనరె' M. v. 30. ఉవ్వెత్తుగా uvvettu-gā. Quite easily. All at once. మిక్కిలి చులకనగా, ఏకకాలమందు. Completely. నిశ్శేషముగా. From the bottom అడుగుతో. 'మైమత్తిలి మిమ్మెరుంగక సమస్తరిపుప్రకరంబు వచ్చియువ్వెత్తుగ గూలెపా పమతులెయ్యెడలన్ జయమంద నేర్తురే.' (p. 173) ūkiñcu or ఊకు ūkinṭsu. [Tel.] v. n. To shake, agitate or move; to endeavour or make an effort. పూను; to rattle the dice. ఊకు or ఊకువ ūku. n. Effort, exertion. పూనిక, ప్రయత్నము. 'ఒక్కూకువంగదల' (R. v. 6.) moving at a single effort. ఒక్క ఊకువగా at once, all at once. ఒక్క సారిగా. ఊకువగు ūkuvagu. (ఊకువ+అగు) v. n. To try, to undertake. పూను.

(p. 186) ettu ettu. [Tel.] v. n. To rise పుట్టు. To occur, come about కలుగు. To start బయలుదేరు. (p. 187) ettu ettu. [Tel.] n. 1. Height. ఉన్నతము. 2. Weight: బరువు, తూనిక. The weight of a quarter of a maund, i. e., two viss, or, six pounds and a quarter రెండువీసెలకొలది. (A. v. 96.) A wreath of flowers. పువ్వుటెత్తు, పుష్పసరము. A move at chees చదరంగపుఎత్తు; hence (metaphorically) a contrivance, a trick, ఉపాయము; an effort. ప్రయత్నము. ఎత్తులమారి a clever man. ఎత్తుకట్టు or ఎత్తుచూచు to weigh, to try. ఎత్తుకు ఎత్తు a Roland for an Oliver, one device against another. ఎత్తు ettu adj. (p. 372) guṇḍu gunḍu. [Tel.] n. A round stone. A cannon ball or bullet. ఫిరంగిగుండు. A lump. A weight (or stone) for scales. A hill పర్వతము. గుండుగుర్రము a stallion or stone horse. వెండిగుండు name of a kind of dog. భైరవుడు, 'కత్తెరసంపంగి, వెండిగుండు' Manu. iv. 42. A polishing stone used by masons in plastering. కసిలెగుండు the iron hoop that forms the lip of a leathern bucket. adj. Round, globular, spherical. గుండుకొట్టు gunḍu-koṭṭu. n. To smoke the drug called bhang. gunḍu-kōvi. n. A small cannon, a swivel. పెట్లదిమ్మ. See గుండుగిలు gunḍu-gilu. v. n. To move in a circle. చుట్టుపడు. గుండుగుత్త gunḍu-gutta. n. An all-round settlement, i.e., a lease which covers all rights and privileges. సమస్త స్వాతంత్య్రముతో ఇచ్చే గుత్త, బిల్మక్తా. గుండుకొను or గుండుగూడుకొను gunḍu-konu. v. n. To unite, to make one common effort. To surround చుట్టుకొను. 'అప్పుడందరును హాహాకారంబులన్ గుండుగూడుకొని సవరింపంగ.' G. ix. 65. గుండుములుగాడు gunḍu-mulupu-gāḍu. The Nightjar or the goatsucker, గుండువేయు gunḍu-vēyu. v. n. To fire a gun: to die. గుండు వేసి కాల్చు to fire a ball at. గుండుసూది gunḍu-sūdi. n. A pin. గుండ్రాయి gunḍ-rāyi. n. (p. 515) talakonu tala-konu. [Tel.] v. n. To happen. కలుగు To exceed, become great, come to a head: to head or be a leader. To make an effort. యత్నపడు. v. t. To have or get తాల్చు. (p. 607) dēvu dēvu. [Tel.] v. a. To rinse. To take rice, &c. out of water with the hand. To grope for, as with a drage under water, to trample on so as to destroy, as salt. నీళ్లలోనుండి తడవియెత్తు, వెదకు. v. n. To turn, as the stomach when queasy. నా కడుపు దేవుచున్నది I am sickish; my stomach turns. దేవుకొను dēvu-konu. v. t. To scrape together. To root up, turn up. To plunder, rifle. 'పదార్థంబులు దేవుకొని వచ్చి.' BD. v. 696. దేవురించు dēvurinṭsu. v. a. To sue, intreat, plague or beset with petitions, to beg eagerly, to importune. దీనవృత్తిని యాచించు, దైన్యమునొందు. దేవురుగొట్టు dēvuru-goṭṭu. n. A sneak, one who sues for favour, a mean beggar. దేబె, దీనుడు. దేవురింపు or దేవురు dēvu-rimpu. n. Begging with importunity. Lamentation, bewailing, complaining, ఏడ్పు, మొర. దేవులాడు dēvul-āḍu. v. n. To dive in water, to search in water. To roam about, to be in trouble, to pine or struggle. దేవులాడి సాధిస్తిని I managed to effect it with a great effort.

(p. 771) puruṣuḍu purushuḍu. [Skt.] n. A man. A husband. నా పురుషుడు my husband. మహాపురుషుడు a great person. పురుషకారము an attempt of man, human effort, పురుష ప్రయత్నము. పురుషోత్తముడు purush-ōttamuḍu. n. Lit: the best of men. The Almighty. పురుషము purushamu. n. A person in verbs. క్రియలమీది విభక్తుల సంజ్ఞ. ప్రథమపురుషము the third person. మధ్యమపురుషము the second person. ఉత్తమవురుషము the first person. పురుషరత్నము or మంగలింగము purusha-ratnamu. n. A species of violet or phallus flower, Viola suffruticosa. Ainslie. ii. 267. Ionidium suffruticosum. Wight, plate XIX. పురుషాయితము purush-āyitamu. n. Man-fashion; playing the husband. పురుషార్థము purush-ārthamu. n. An object of desire. The principal thing or object in life, i.e., ధర్మార్థకామమోక్షములు the gratification of desire, acquirement of wealth, discharge of duty, and final emancipation. ఇది చేస్తే పుణ్యమా పురుషార్థమా if one does this, does it bring merit or the satisfaction of one's desires?
