(p. 19) akka akka. [Tel. a Dravidian word borrowed by Sanskrit, where it is used in the sense of mother. cf. Lat. acca] n. An elder sister. అక్కచెల్లెళ్లు elder and younger sisters. పెద్దక్క the eldest sister. Any woman older than oneself is usually styled అక్క elder sister, or అమ్మ mother, madam: and any man older than onself is usually styled అస్న elder brother, or, అయ్య father, sir. పంటలక్క a cook or kitchen maid. See అక్కలవాడ.

(p. 26) agramu agramu. [Skt.] n. End, point, tip, front, fore-part, top, peak, summit. adj. First, preliminary, chief, principal. అగ్రజ్యా (in astron.) the sine of the amplitude. అగ్రభాగము (astron.) degree of amplitude. అగ్రసారము a compendious method of counting immense numbers. అగ్రాంశువు the end of a ray of light, the focal point. జిహ్వాగ్రము the tip of the tongue. Similarly నాసికాగ్రము, నఖాగ్రము, &c. అగ్రగణ్యము adj. Estimable, conspicuous. శ్రేష్ఠమైన, అగ్రగణ్యుడు n. A chief, a leader. మొదట నెంచదగినవాడు అగ్రజంఘము the forepart of the thigh. అగ్రజన్ముడు n. A brahmin. Elder brother. అగ్రజుడు n. An elder brother. అన్న. అగ్రణి n. A leader.

(p. 30) ajātaśatruvu a-jāta-ṣatruvu. [Skt.] n. He who has no enemy; an inoffensive man. An epithet of Dharmaraja, the eldest of the Pandavas.

(p. 55) anujyēṣṭhuḍu anu-jyēshṭhuḍu. [Skt.] n. The next eldest son.

(p. 56) anubandhamu anu-bandhamu. [Skt.] n. Connection, affinity, alliance. చుట్టరికము. అనుబంధక్రియ a defective or auxiliary verb. ప్రకృతి ప్రత్యయాదుల చేత చెడెడి అక్షరము. (p. 59) anna anna. [Tel.] n. An elder brother. Voc. sing అన్నా plu. అన్నలారాపెద్దన్న the eldest of the elder brothers. చిన్నన్న the younger of the elder brothers. అన్నదమ్ములు brothers (both elder and younger.)నీవు వానికి అన్నవే you are even worse than he is. ఇవి లేండ్లన్నలు, అనగా యివి లేండ్లను మించినవి these surpass stags in speed. అన్నా or అనన్న an interjection of grief of admiration, e. g., 'కారుకమ్ములన్ననకురుల్.'

(p. 65) appa appa. [Tel. cognate with Heb. Abba, father.] n. Papa, a father, An elder sister. తండ్రి, అక్క (This word is frequently added to the proper names of men; as a term of common respect; thus రంగప్ప, రామప్ప.)

(p. 210) odugu odugu. [Tel.] v. n. To make room. to move so as to accomodate తొలగు. To come to hand, to be got or obtained. దొరకు. To become plentiful సమృద్ధమగు. To be of use or convenient. To assist, be at hand or ready. ఈ బియ్యము పండితే అన్నము ఒదుగుకావడములేదు on boiling this rice, it does not swell to the proper quantity. ఈ బట్టచలికి ఒదగదు this cloth is of no use against cold. కొంచెము ఒదుగుము, ఆయనను కూర్చుండనిమ్ము move a little and let him sit down. ఒదిగి ఒదిగి ఉన్నారు; they yielded. నాకు ఇప్పట్లో రూకలు ఒదగలేదు I have not yet obtained the money.

(p. 229) kacci kachchi. [Tel.] n. A weaver సాలెవాడు An interstice where a stick is inserted in a warp. కొయ్యలను పడుగునందు చొప్పించే సందు. కచ్చికొట్టు kachchi-koṭṭu. v. t. To geld. adj. Gelded. కచ్చివేసిన గుర్రము a gelding.

(p. 275) kāru kāru. [Tel.] n. A season, time of the year. కాలము. చిన్నకారు childhood, youth. తొలికారు the opening of the year. కారు మెరుపు or తొలికరుమెరుపు or క్రొక్కారు మెరుంగు vernal lightning తొలివానకాలపు మెరుపు. నవకారు Spring. ఈ సంవత్సరములో ముక్కారులున్ను పండినవి the three seasons have yielded crops this year. ఒక కారు కోడిపిల్లలను అమ్మివేసినాను I have sold one brood of chickens. నాలుగు కారులగిత్త a heifer four years old. కారు కాలము, ఫలకాము harvest time. కారు పంట, a crop that depends on the rain. వర్షాకాలమందు నీరాసరానుపండే పల్లపుపంట, కారువడ్లు rice grown in the hot season, ఎండకాలమందు పండే వరి ధాన్యము. కారువాయిధర price current of grain at the time of reaping. A figure, diagram or sign in astrology. The name of a coin. The bird called చక్రవాకము. A region or division of the body. చక్రధరుడు or చక్రపాణి Vishṇu. కటి or కటిచక్రము the loins, the region of the lions. అష్టకోణచక్రము an octagon. చక్రవర్తి chakra-varti.. n. An emperor or sovereign. రారాజు, సార్వభౌముడు. చక్రవర్తిని chakra-vartini. n. An empress. సార్వభౌమురాలు. చక్రవాకము chakra-vākamu. n. The Brahminy-duck or Ruddy Casarca rotila (F.B.I.) జక్కవపక్షి. The poetical swan, always described as being in pairs, to which poets liken fair breasts. చక్రవాళము chakravāḷamu. n. A range of mountains supposed to encircle the earth. చుట్టుకొండ. చక్రవృద్ధి chakra-vṛiddhi. n. Compound interest వడ్డికివడ్డి. చక్రాంకనము or చక్రాంకితములు or చక్రాంకములు chakrānkanamu. n. Marks branded on the front of the shoulders, representing the disc and shell of Vishṇu. (It is a rite similar to absolution.) చక్రాంగము chakrāngamu. n. A swan. హంస. చక్రాంగి a female swan. చక్రి chakri. n. The discus-wielder, i.e., Vishṇu. A snake, because rolled in a ring. A potter, because using a wheel.

(p. 443) calavādi ṭsala-vādi. [Tel.] n. A messenger; who carries the news of a death. A beadle, or javelin bearer who attends the Pedda Setti or headman of a community, a man who summons the elders of a community to a council.

(p. 416) cinna chinna. [Tel.] adj. Small, little, short, young, mean, trifling, insignificant, narrow: disgraceful. ముఖము చిన్నచేసుకొను to be ashamed, to be downcast or sorrowful. Junior, Younger, smaller. చిన్నచూపు humiliation, scorn. దేవుడు చిన్నచూపుచూస్తే యెవరేమి చేయవచ్చును when God withdraws his favour what can man do? చిన్న ఆకురాయి chinna-ākurāyi. n. The Blackheaded Cuckoo-Shrike, Campophaga sykesi. (F.B.I.) చిన్నకారు chinna-kāru. n. Childhood, youth. చిన్నకారుపిల్లలు young children. చిన్నతనము chinna-tanamu. n. Infancy: littleness, smallness. Disgrace, dishonor. ఇందువల్ల కులమునకంతా చిన్నతనము వచ్చినది this is a disgrace to the whole caste. చిన్నది chinnadi. n. A little one. A girl, a lass. ఈ చిన్నది అతనిభార్య this girl is his wife. పెద్ద చిన్నది the eldest daughter; or, a grown girl.
