(p. 92) avaguṇamu ava-guṇamu. [Skt.] n. An evil disposition, a bad temper, a defect. దుర్గుణము, దోషము.

(p. 124) ālari ālari. [Tel.] adj. &n. Unprotected, destitute. ఆనాథ, నాధుడులేనిది. An ill tempered man, a bad man. దుశ్శీలుడు.

(p. 150) uccaṇḍamu uchchaṇḍamu. [Skt.] adj. Quick, hasty, sudden in temper. ఉచ్చండుడు = త్వరపడేవాడు.

(p. 259) kaluṣamu kalushamu. [Skt.] n. Sin foulness, impurity. పాపము. adj. Foul, Sinful. Turbid, muddy. కలకబారిన. కలుషించు kalushinṭsu. v. n. To be angry or intemperate, to be agitated కలకబారు.

(p. 270) kāni kāni. [Tel.] (neg. part of అగు.) Which cannot be done. కొరగాని useless. చేతకాని unskilled, awkward. అనువుకానివేళ at an inconvenient time. కాని adj. Bad, vile, envious. కానిగుణము a vile temper. కానికులము a low caste. కానివాడు an enemy. కానిపని a vile act.

(p. 274) kārakamu kārakamu. [Skt.] adj. Making, causing. సందేహకారకమైన causing doubt or doubtful. సంతాపకారకమైన grievous. దుఃఖకారకమైన grievous, causing sorrow. కారకహేతువు the efficient or active cause. In Telugu it is used to denote heat. కారకజ్వరము a burning fever. కారకదేహము a hot or fervish temperament. మేహకారకము venereal feverishness. పిత్తకారకము bilious feverishness. కారకములు నాలుగువిధములు stimulants are of four sorts.

(p. 295) kumati ku-mati. [Skt. కు = కుత్సిత.] n. An evil mind, a bad heart or temper.

(p. 317) koḍupu koḍupu. [Tel.] n. A barrel, a cylinder: the length of a bamboo between two knots. A thimble or guard worn on the finger when playing the guitar తంతిమీటుటకు వ్రేలికి వేసుకొనేగోరు. A stick used in striking a gong, a drumstick నగారాకొట్టెకొయ్య; కోణము. A hollow cylinder used in making vermicelli. జంతికలుచేసే సాధనము. అప్పడాల కొడువు a cylindrical stick used in flattening cakes. బలపపుకొడుప a slate pencil. జమ్ముకొడుపు the pod or cylindrical head of a bulrush. బొడుకొడువు or బల్లలకొడుపు (BD. iii. 2240.) a clog fastened to the neck of a bad tempered cow గదికొయ్య.

(p. 371) guṇḍagoyya gunḍa-goyya. [Tel. గుండ+కొయ్య.] n. A stubborn ruffian. ధుష్టుడు. గుండతనము gunḍa-tanamu. n. A hard or cruel temper.

(p. 375) guṇamu guṇamu. [Skt.] n. A quality, property, virtue, disposition, temper, character, or attribute. Tendency, effect, purpose, use. A symptom as of disease. వానికి గుణమువచ్చినది he is now come to his senses. నీలగుణము blackness. మంచి గుణము goodness, good temper. మోహగుణము the passion of lust. వానికి గుణముగానున్నది he is better, he has recovered. పది రూపాయలుయిస్తే గుణమే if he gives ten rupees so much the better. అందువల్ల యేమిగుణము what is the use of it? వానితో మాట్లాడితే గుణము లేదు there is no good in speaking to him. పది గుణములుగల or గడియకు ఒక గుణముగల freakish, changeable, whimsical వాంతిభ్రాంతిగుణము an attack or symptoms of cholera. The three Gunas are Rajah (passion) Tamah foulness: and Satvam (Truth). Added to a numeral, thus ద్విగుణము twice as much or two-fold. త్రిగుణము thrice as much, or three-fold. గుణము n. A cord, a string. త్రాడు. A bow string. అల్లెత్రాడు. గుణధ్వని the sound of the bowstring. గుణపడు guṇa-paḍu. v. n. To recover, improve, ameliorate. గుణమగు guṇa-m-agu. v. n. To recover. వారికి గుణమైనది they have improved. గుణమిచ్చు guṇa-m-iṭsṭsu. v. n. To affect favourably, as medicine, to improve the health. గుణము చేయు guṇamu-chēyu n. The cure. గుణవంతుడు or గుణయుతుడు guṇa-vantuḍu. n. A worthy or good man. గుణవతి guṇa-vati. n. A good woman. గుణి or గుణుడు guṇi. adj. Endowed or gifted with good qualities. 'గుణగుణంబులరీతి కూడిమాడి' (Paidimarri. iv. 214.) united as closely as goodness and the good, as the virtuous and virtue. అధికగుణుడు highly distinguished. గుణించు or గుణియించు guṇinṭsu. v. a. To multiply, calculate. To spell. గుణితము guṇitamu. n. Multiplication, spelling. గుణ్యత guṇyata. n. Excellence, goodness, worth. 'గుణ్యత యేమైననుసరి ప్రాణ్యవనము చేయవలయు.' T. iii. 96.

(p. 404) cakramu chakramu. [Skt.] n. A wheel. A discuss or sharp-edged plate of steel, hurled at a foe like a quoit: the thunderbolt or weapon of Vishṇu. A realm, region. రాష్ట్రము. A figure, diagram or sign in astrology. The name of a coin. The bird called చక్రవాకము. A region or division of the body. చక్రధరుడు or చక్రపాణి Vishṇu. కటి or కటిచక్రము the loins, the region of the lions. అష్టకోణచక్రము an octagon. చక్రవర్తి chakra-varti.. n. An emperor or sovereign. రారాజు, సార్వభౌముడు. చక్రవర్తిని chakra-vartini. n. An empress. సార్వభౌమురాలు. చక్రవాకము chakra-vākamu. n. The Brahminy-duck or Ruddy Casarca rotila (F.B.I.) జక్కవపక్షి. The poetical swan, always described as being in pairs, to which poets liken fair breasts. చక్రవాళము chakravāḷamu. n. A range of mountains supposed to encircle the earth. చుట్టుకొండ. చక్రవృద్ధి chakra-vṛiddhi. n. Compound interest వడ్డికివడ్డి. చక్రాంకనము or చక్రాంకితములు or చక్రాంకములు chakrānkanamu. n. Marks branded on the front of the shoulders, representing the disc and shell of Vishṇu. (It is a rite similar to absolution.) చక్రాంగము chakrāngamu. n. A swan. హంస. చక్రాంగి a female swan. చక్రి chakri. n. The discus-wielder, i.e., Vishṇu. A snake, because rolled in a ring. A potter, because using a wheel.

(p. 443) calamu ṭsalamu. [Tel.] n. Spitefulness, malice, ill-will. మాత్సర్యము. Insolence, obstinacy. Rudeness, fury, రోషము, హటము, మోడి. చలముకొను, చలపట్టు or చలపొడుచు to entertain spite. ఇది చలమో ఫలమో (a proverb) did you do this with an object or through mere spite? చలపకారము same as చలము. చలపాది, చలవకారి or చలమరి ṭsalapādi. n. A spiteful or illtempered man. మాత్సర్యశీలుడు. చలపాదితనము ṭsalapādi-tanamu. n. Spite, grudge, crossness. చలపో రు ṭsala-pōru. (చలము+పోరు) v. n. To wreak a grudge, to fight inveterately చలముపట్టు పోరాడు.

(p. 413) ciṭlu or చిటులు chiṭlu. [Tel.] v. n. To snap, split, crack (as a fruit), burst. వెంట్రుక చిట్లినది a hair has split. చిట్లని unblown, unopened. చిట్లుకట్టె a person of a very irritable temper. మిక్కిలి కోపము గలవాడు. చిట్లుజిట్ట chiṭlu-jiṭṭa. n. The Nilgiri Flower-pecker. Dicæum Concolor, or, the Thick-billed Flower-pecker. Piprisoma squalidam. (F.B.I.) చిట్లించు chiṭlinṭsu. v. a. To crack, break. To burst, split. A. i. 23. v. n. To break, snap, crack, split, burst or be chopped, as the ground, the skin, paint, or the lips in fever. T. iv. 85. ముఖము చిట్లించు to frown. ముఖము చిట్లించుకొన్నారు they changed colour, were abashed, they looked sulky. చిట్లింతకూర chiṭlinta-kūra. n. A herb used in curries. Marselia Minuta. Heyne.

(p. 414) cittamu chittamu. [Skt.] n. The mind or intellect; the heart, considered as the seat of intellect: inclination, will, pleasure. మీచిత్తము (or simply చిత్తము) your pleasure! as you please! yes, sir! చిత్తానకు తేవలెను be so good as to consider this. ప్రవేశము చిత్తగించలవెను pray acknowledge the receipt of this letter. చిత్తానుసారముగా according to one's own pleasure or as one see fit. చిత్తగించు chitta-ginṭsu. v. a. To listen, grant attention keep or retain in mind, attend to, mind, note, observe, remark, examine, investigate. మనస్కరించు. To think, తలచు; to hear a prayer, to consider యోచించు. At the close of a letter the words చిత్తగించవలెను. 'Please to consider this' are equivalent to the phrase ('I remain, &c') అట్లు చిత్తగించినాడు he came to this decision (used of a superior.) చిత్తగించవలెను I beg you to or, do me the favor to. చిత్తచాంచల్యము chitta-chānchalyamu. n. Aberration of the intellect. Insanity. చిత్తచాంచల్యము chitta-vṛitti. n. Temper, wish, inclination, disposition. Will, pleasure, determination. చిత్రుడు and చిత్తురాలు chittuḍu. adj. Minded. This is used in compound phrases, thus: సంతోషచిత్తుడు a cheerful man. క్రూరచిత్తులై cruel-hearted. శాంతచిత్తుడు a gentle character.

(p. 545) tempu or తెంపి tempu. [Tel. from తెగు.] n. Breaking. తెగుట. Bravery, daring, ardour, తెగువ. Insolence, rashness. An infraction of a rule. An outbreak, a breach of the peace. Harshness of temper. తాడుతెంపు ruin: See తెంచు. తెంపుచేసి వచ్చినారు they plucked up heart and came, they came in desperation. తెంపులతాడు a rope just breaking. తెంపు v. a. To break, to open a suice, &c. తెంచు తెంపరి tempari. (తెంపు+అరి.) n. A brave man. సాహసికుడు.
