(p. 103) asura or అసురుడు asura. [Skt. lit. 'Assyrian'.] n. A demon, giant. రాక్షసుడు. The Asuras were such as Rāvaṇa and Bana, who were adorers of Siva. అసురకృత్యము a horrible deed. అసురధ్రువము asura-dhruvamu n. The south pole. దక్షిణధ్రమము. అసురసంధ్య asura-sandhya n. The dusk, the evening. సాయంకాలము. (In the Vedas and in the cuneiform inscriptions, the word అసుర is used in the sense of (1) a nobleman, (2) a powerful being, (3) a god. In later Skt. literature, it is always used in an evil sense.)

(p. 103) astamayamu or అస్తమానము astamayamu. [Skt.] n. Sunset, evening. ప్రొద్దుక్రుంకడము. ఇసుక కమ్ముకొని లోకమంతా అస్తమానమైనట్టున్నది clouds of sand obscured the face of nature. అస్తమించు astamiṭsu. v. n. To set, to draw towards evening. ప్రొద్దుక్రుంకు మబ్బుకమ్ముకొని లోకము అస్తమించినట్టున్నది the world is enveloped in shade. అస్తమితము astamitamu. adj. Set, as the sun. క్రుంకిన. అస్తము astamu. [Skt.] adj. Set, cast, thrown, disappeared, lost, gone. క్రుంకిన, పోయిన, మరుగైపోయిన, అస్తబలుడు he who is exhausted. అస్తము n. An imaginary mountain in the west behind which the sun is believed to set. అస్తాచలము, అస్తాద్రి astachalamu. n. The western mountain. అస్తమయపర్వతము.

(p. 129) āsāyamu āsāyamu. [H.] adv. The live long day, all day long, till evening.

(p. 179) eṇḍa enḍa. [Tel.] n. Heat, sunshine, glare, radiance, ఎండయెక్కినది the sun is high. చిరుఎండ the soft heat of the morning or evening; రేయెండ moonshine. వాడు వచ్చినప్పుడు నిండా యెండయెక్కినది it was late in the day when he arrived. ఎండకాచునప్పుడు when it is hot. నీకు ఎండ తగిలినది, or, నీ ముఖమునకు ఎండతగిలినది you look hot or fatigued, ఎండకన్నెరుగనివాడు one whose 'eye knows not the sunbeam,' i.e., who lives in the shade. ఎండకాలము eṇḍa-kālamu. n. The hot weather. ఎండగట్టు eṇḍa-gaṭṭu. v. t. To tie up (as a cloth) in the sun to dry. ఎండిపోవు. ఎండదెబ్బ eṇḍa-gāli. n. A burning wind. ఎండగోట్టు eṇḍa-goṭṭu. v. i. To dry up or wither ఎండిసోవు. ఎండదెబ్బ eṇḍa-debba. n. A stroke of the sun. ఎండదొర or ఎండరేడు eṇḍa-dora. n. The sun. ఎండపొద్దు eṇḍa-poddu. n. Noon. ఎండమావి eṇḍa-māvi. n. The mirage మృగతృష్ణ. ఎండబెట్టు eṇḍa-beṭṭu. v. t. To put out to dry. ఎదురెండ the sun against the face.

(p. 279) kāvi kāvi. [Tel.] n. and adj. Red, redness. Russet, tan, pink, salmon colour, fawn colour, terra cotta colour, tawny hue. ఎరుపు, కాషాయవస్త్రము. సం౛కాని the red hue of evening. కాని or కావిరాయి red ochre. కావికోక a tawny robe, worn by ascetics, imitating the colour of the raw hide worn by hermits in old days. కావిగొను to become red ఎర్రనగు. కాలితాలుపు an ascetic సన్యాసి, కాషాయధారి.

(p. 418) ciri or చిరు chiri. [Tel.] adj. Small, trifling, little, delicate, slight. చిరిచెమట gentle perspiration: చిరియెండ the gentle warmth of the morning or evening sun. చిరికప్ప chiri-kappa. n. A small frog, the wall frog, chunam frog or flying frog. చిరికూర chiri-kūra. n. A herb called Amaranthus polygonoides. Rox. iii. 602. చిరికొండి chiri-konḍi. n. A small knot చిన్నసిగ. చిరిట chiriṭa. n. The stopper of a bottle. చిరితాళము chiri-tālamu. n. A small lock or bell. చిటితాళము. [In all the compounds here, చిరి may be written చిరు] చిరితొడ the thinner part of the thigh, the leg.

(p. 594) dinamu dinamu. [Skt.] n. A day. The day time. దినేదినే dinē-dinē. adv. Daily. దినకరుడు dina-karuḍu n. The maker of the day, i.e., The sun. దినచర్య dina-charya n. A diary, day book, or journal. దినదినము dina-dinamu. n. Every day. adv. Daily, day by day. దినబత్తెము daily batta or allowance. దినమణి dina-maṇi. n. The gem of day, a title of the sun. దినవారము dina-vāramu. n. Funeral ceremonies. ఉత్తరక్రియలు or కర్మాంతరము. దినవెచ్చము daily expense. పాండు. iii. దినసరి dina-sari. n. A kind of grain or crop. ధాన్యవిశేషము, సస్యవిశేషము. దినాంతము the evening time. సాయంకాలము, మాపు.

(p. 668) nīru nīru. [Tel.] adj. Slight. అల్పము. నీరెండ the soft sunshine (ఎండ) of evening. 'నీరెండగాయ.' A vi. 129. నీరుపదును slight sharpness, కొంచెమువాడి. నీరుపాయము nīru-pāyamu. n. Youth, adolescence, యౌవనము. నీరుకావి or నీర్కావి nīru-kāvi. n. A reddish tint. the soft tint of fine cloth after its newness has gone off. కొంచెమెరుపు. నీరు కావులు nīru-kārulu. n. A sort of grain. H. iv. 158. నీరుకాళ్లు nīru-kāḷḷu. n. Lit: Reddish legs, i.e., the rays of the sun at sunrise and sunset. కొంచెమెర్రని రంగుగలవై రెండు సంధ్యవేళలందును కనబడు సూర్యకిరణములు 'నిడుదలైతిలకించె నీరుకాళ్లు.' హరి. పూ. vii.

(p. 779) pūṭa pūṭa. [Tel.] n. A time. కాలము. A part of a day. సంధ్య. A day, దినము. Security, surety, bail. ప్రతిభూత్వము. One who stands bail for another. పూటకాపు. పగటిపూట in the day time. రాత్రిపూట at night. తెల్లవారుపూట in the morning. నాలుగుపూటలు మందిచ్చినాడు he administered medicine two mornings and two evenings. పూటకాపు pūṭa-kāpu. n. One who stands security. ప్రతిభువు. ౛ామీనుదారుడు. పూటకూడు food obtained by paying for each meal, boarding. ఏపూటకు ఆపూట సొమ్ము ఇచ్చి తినుట, వెలతీసుకొని వేళవేళకు పెట్టెడు అన్నము. పూటకూళ్లయిల్లు an inn or boarding house. పూటకూళ్లమ్మ a woman who makes her living by preparing food for daily wages. పూటపెట్టు or పూటవెట్టు. v. a. To give bail. పూటబడు or పూటబడు pūṭa-baḍu. v. n. To stand bail. అతడు నాకు పూటబడినాడు he stood security for me, అతడు నాకు ౛ామీనుగానున్నాడు. పూటసాక్షి a hired or false witness. దొంగసాక్షి, బూటకపు సాక్షి. పూటపూటకును ఇదే రచ్చ this is the daily plague, ఎల్లప్పుడు ఇదే పోరు or రంధి. పూటవాటు pūṭa-vāṭu. n. The act of standing security for another.

(p. 833) pradōṣamu pra-dōshamu. [Skt.] n. Evening; the first part of the night. The evening of a particular lunar day, in which the recital of the Vedas is forbidden. దాత్య్రారంభము. A fault, transgression, sin, దోషము.

(p. 961) malu malu. [Tel. a form of మరు from మరుస.] adj. The second. మలుకారు malu-kāru. n. The second crop produced within the year, the light crop. రెండో మారుపెట్టినపంట. Also, winter, శీతకాలము. మలుచూలు first child. మలుపక్కము the second fortnight, కృష్ణపక్షము. మలుసం౛ malu-sandza. n. The evening time, eventide. సాయంసంధ్య. మలుచుట్టు malu-tsuṭṭu. n. 'అనుఘకథాముఖంబున హితాహిత బోధమొనర్తురింపుగా.' Mand. i. 8. టీ కాథా ముఖంబున by means of a story, కథచేతను అర్ధముఖము the profile or half face. తమరు రామునిముఖముచూచి నన్ను రక్షింపవలసినది I pray that for the sake of Rama you will relieve me. పడమటిముఖముగా towards the west. పడమటిముఖముగా నుండే యిల్లు a house facing the west. ఆడదానిముఖమెరుగనివాడు a youth that as yet knows not the face of a woman, i.e., entirely chaste. అందరును ఏకముఖముగా నుండలేదుగనుక as they were not unanimous or were not all of one mind. 'బాణకృపాణముఖాస్త్ర శస్త్రములు,' M. VII. ii. 275; arrows, swords, and other weapons. ముఖముమాడ్చుకొనినాడు he looked sulky or angry. వానికి ముఖము చచ్చినది he turned pale, he looked blank or ashamed. ముఖదాక్షిణ్యము complaisance. వానిముఖములో ఈగ ఆడలేదు he was all in a pucker. ఆ రూకలను వాని ముఖముమిద పారవేయుము fling the money at his face. అది వానికి ముఖపాఠముగానున్నది he has got it by heart. వాడు ముఖప్రితి మాటలాడును he talks plausibly. ముఖమెరుగనివాడు a stranger. ముఖమెరుగనిదేశము a strange land, a land where one has no acquaintance. ముఖవాసికలవాడు he is a winning man. వానికి ముఖవశ్యముకద్దు he is a very taking man. ముఖము తప్పించుకొనిపోయినాడు he has absconded or disappeared. ముఖస్తుతి flattery. ముఖస్తుతిచేయు to flatter. వాని కాశ్లోకము ముఖస్థముగానున్నది he knows the verse by heart. ముఖద్వారము mukhadvāramu. n. A projecting or protuberant belly, బొ౛్జ. వాలుగొమ్ము a canal or sluice. వాలుచు or వాల్చు vāluṭsu. v. a. To bend, incline, slant. కిందికివంచు. The planet Venus or its regent. శుక్రుడు. 'పొలుపొంద తూర్పున బొడిచెవాల్చుక్క.' Sar. D. 558. వాలుచేప vālu-chēpa. n. A kind of fish called Chirocentius nudius. మత్స్యవిశేషము. వాలుడు vāluḍu. adj. Hanging down. వాలుడుకొమ్మలు branches that hang down. n. A kind of tree. ఎర్రవాలుడు the red kind. వాలుడుచెక్క the bark of this tree used in medicine. వాలుడుతైలము the oil extracted from this bark.
