(p. 127) āśa āṣa. [Skt.] n. Love, attachment, desire, wish, hope, passion, inclination, curiosity, avarice. ఆశాపాశము or ఆశాబంధము the chain of our lusts, fleshly ties. ఆశకొలుపు āsa-kolupu. v. t. To cause to desire, to allure, tempt, incite, encourage, to hold out prospects. ఆశపడు āṣa-paḍu. To desire, covet, long for. ఆశాపాతకుడు āṣā-pātakuḍu. n. A covetous man. ఆసపెట్టు āṣa-peṭṭu. To raise hopes or expectations, give hopes, tantalize. ఆశాబంధము āṣā-bandhamu. n. The bond of love or desire.

(p. 167) umēḍu or ఉమేజు umēdu. [H.] n. Hope. ఆశ, కోరిక. ఉమేదు చేయు to live in hope, to be a hanger on, as an expectant. ఉమేదువారి umēdu-vāri. n. Expectancy, waiting for an employment. Volunteer ing for employment. ఆశించుకొని యుండడము, ఉద్యోగమునకై కనిపెట్టుకొని యుండడము. ఉమేదువారు umēdu-vāru. n. A candidate for employment, a volunteer, an apprentice.

(p. 375) guḍḍi guḍḍi. [Tel.] adj. Blind. n. The number marked one that is turned upside down in a game అట్టచెమ్మలో వెలికిలపడిన ఒంటికాయ. గుడ్డివెన్నెల pale moon-light. గుడ్డిపాఠము a blind recital. గుడ్డిదీపము a dim light. గుడ్డివేటుగా by chance, as a windfall, without expectation, undesignedly. గుడ్డిబెదిరింపు an empty threat. గుడ్డిబేరము a blind bargain. గుడ్డీగ a blind or foolish fly that does not go to rest as it gets dark. గుడ్డింగిలాయి guḍḍingi-lāyi. n. A species of fish, called Scarus viridis ఇంగిలాయి గుడ్డికొక్కరాయి guḍḍi-kokka-rāyi. n. The blind crane or the bittern. గుడ్డితనము guḍḍi-tanamu. n. Blindness.

(p. 657) nirīkṣiñcu nir-īkshinṭsu. [Skt.] v. t. To look for, view, watch, long for, hope for, wait for. ఎదురుచూచు, నిరీక్షణ or నిరీక్షణము nir-īkshaṇa. n. Looking for, regarding, seeing, expectation, hope, ఎదురుచూచుట. నిరీక్షితము nir-īkshitamu. adj. Expected, hoped for. ఎదురు చూడబడిన.

(p. 700) paḍikāpu or పడిగాపు paḍi-kāpu. [Tel.] n. A hanger on, an expectant. పంచను కాచుకొనియుండే సేవకుడు. 'పడికాపులు పడియుండగ, బడుగులకేలబ్బు కంసభంజనుసేవల్' Kuchēlōp.

(p. 1377) svāti svāti. [Skt.] n. Arcturus, the fifteenth lunar asterism. చిత్తకు అవలలినక్షత్రము, పదిహేనో నక్షత్రము. స్వాతికర్తి the fifteenth counstellation in which the sun happens to be for thirteen days in the month of October or November. స్వాతి చిప్పలు the oysters that gaps expecting drops of rain in Swāti. తమ రాక కొరకు స్వాతిచిప్పలవలె నోరు తెరచుకొని యున్నాము we look out with thirsty expectation for your arrival. స్వాతికొంగలు a kind of cranes or storks which emigrate in this month. స్వాతివాన genial showers supposed to impregnate oysters with pearls. 'స్వాతిబకంబులవీకను.' H. iii. 52. 'స్వాతి కృష్టిగురి యజనించి.' H. ii. 171.
