(p. 108) āku āku. [Tel.] n. A leaf of any sort. A petal. పత్రము, దళము. A betel, or palmyra leaf; also the leaf on which the Hindus eat their food. విస్తరాకు An ear-ring. చెవి కమ్మ. Young rice (paddy) not yet transplanted. Any herb: young sprouts of corn. A flake as ఆకు ఉప్పు a flake of salt. Any filament. The radius or spoke of a wheel. The shutter of a blind. ఆకులతలుపు a venetian door. Also, a chit, note or short letter. చీటి; a loan bond. ఇచ్చిపుచ్చుకోలు పత్రము. This word prefixed to others generally denotes green; as ఆకుతేలు a green scorpion, and ఆకుమిడత a green cricket. ఆడంగులకంటె మగవారు ఏడాకులు ఎక్కువ చదివినారు men have read seven pages further than women; that is, men are tenfold worse than women; or, are their masters in wickedness. నీ పేరు ఆకునపోకన అంటకుండా చెప్పుతాను. I shall mention (or use) your name with great caution. ఆకు అలము āku-alamu. n. Greens, herbs, vegetables. (The word అలము here has no definite sense.) ఆకుకూరలు or కూరాకులు āku-kūralu. n. Potherbs, garden stuff. ఆకు చాటున āku-ṭsāṭana. adj. In ambush, hidden, veiled, screened. ఆకుచిరుతపులి āku-chiruta-puli. n. A small species of leopard. ఆకుచిలక āku-chilaka. n. A butterfly, or a green parrot. ఆకుజెముడు āku-jemuḍu. n. The oleander-leaved spurge. Emphorbia Neriifolia. (See జెముడు.) ఆకుటిల్లు āku-ṭillu. n. A booth or hut of leaves, an arbor of leaves. ఆకుటింట in a booth. ఆకుతీగ the vine that produces the tamala (or betel) leaf. ఆకు తోట a betel garden: a garden in which plants are reared. ఆకుపచ్చ āku-paṭṭsa. n. The colour called sap green. ఆకుపత్రి చెట్టు āku-pattri-cheṭṭu. n. The clove tree. Cassia lignea. a certain game. (H. iii. 190). āka-rarugu. n. A green caterpillar. ఆకుపోత āku-pōta. n. Transplantation of a green crop. ఆకుపోయు āku-pōyu. v. a. To transplant corn. To set the sprouts. ఆకుమడి āku-maḍi. n. A field sown, but the sprouts of which are to be transplanted. (also, called నారుమడి.) ఆకుమడుపు āku-maḍupu. n. A roll of betel leaf. A mode of measurement. ఆకు మొలకాకు The self planting herb. ఆకురాయి āku-rāyi. n. A file (i.e., ఆకు a filament రాయు to rub off.) Also the name of a bird, the cuckoo (F.B.I.) బలుపాకురాయి or ముల్లాకురాయి (from ముల్లు a thorn) a rasp. కత్తి ఆకురాయి a sharp thin file for cutting combs. కమ్మి ఆకురాయి a very small file. వట్రనాకురాయి a three sided file.

(p. 526) tāḷika or తాలిక tāḷika. [Tel. from తాళు.] n. Patience, endurance. ఓర్పు, క్ఠమ. A pastille or little roll, as of paste or of leaf. పొట్టు. The scurf that drops off the skin when rubbed. A flake or scale of earth. Cords of hair: మెలిక. Tresses smeared with మర్రిపాలు. Suca. ii. 42. తాళికగలవాడు tāḷika-gala-vāḍu. n. A man of substance.

(p. 537) tuṭṭa , తుట్టియ or తుట్టె tuṭṭa. [Tel.] n. A crowd or multitude. పుంజము, సమూహము. A. iv. 17. 21. A flake of fire. తుట్టవేయు to breed quarrels.

(p. 548) teppa teppa. [Tel.] n. A raft or float, a cattamaran. కట్టుమ్రాను. వానితెప్ప మునిగినది his foot is sunk, i.e., he is totally ruined. తెప్ప బయలుదేరినట్టు ఉన్నది it is as if (his) raft has come to the surface, i.e., he has recovered his spirits. తెప్పలదేలు to be rife, to abound, rejoice, revel. ఓలలాడు. తెప్పలతేలగా or తెప్పతెప్పలుగ abundantly. T. ii. 34. అగ్గితెప్ప a flake of fire. తెప్పతిరునాళ్ల the raft feast, when the god is placed on a float and rowed over a pond or reservoir. తెప్పతెరలగ teppa-tearala-ga. adv. At pleasure, యథేచ్ఛముగా. At full speed. అతివేగముగా.

(p. 549) tera tera. [Tel.] n. A screen, curtain, a blind. A veil, a cover of any kind. సురుగుచీర, అడ్డువల. A plain or space. బయలు. A billow or surge అల. దోమతెర a mosquito curtain. నాతెర the lips. A time, one bout. ఒకతెర once మరియొకతెర again. తెరయెత్తన్ wave upon wave, in waves, tumultuously, 'పొంగికరుడులెత్తగా.' Vijaya. ii. 19. తెరతెర wave after wave. a series పరంపర. adj. Spread out, open as a plain. Gaping, open as the mouth. తెరనోరుగల open mouthed. తేనెతెర tenetera. n. A honey comb. తెరపారు terapāru. v. n. To curdle, to coagulate, to congeal as water or other liquid. తెరకట్టు ఎండతెరతీసి బయలు వెడలినది the sun broke through the clouds. వైష్ణవులకు తెరచాటుకద్దు the Vaishnavas always are behind a screen, particularly while cating. తెరల గాగిన overpowering, terrible, ఉల్భణమైన. తెరలాడు tera-l-āḍu. (A. vi. 142.) v. n. To hide. To gleam or shine through a veil తెరలుతిరుగు, తెరలో ప్రకాశించు. తెరగంటి tera-ganṭi. n. A god, or goddess. అనిమిషుడు. H. v. 99. తెరకట్టు tera-kaṭṭu. v. n. To form into flakes, to coagulate. మీగడకట్టు, to harden గట్టిపడు. తెరకాడు tera-kāḍu. n. A thief: a concealed agent. తెరచాప tera-ṭsāpa. n. A screen, or mat. P. iv. 255. తెరయీగ tera-y-īga. n. A bee. తేనెటీగ. M. VII. i. 236. తెరవేటు tera-vēṭa. n. 'Screen hunting.' in which the huntsmen use screens to conceal themselves, a hunt wherein hurdles or screens are placed around the hunting ground. A. iv. 154.

(p. 793) pella or పెళ్ల pella. [Tel.] n. A lump, clod; a chip; a flake; a raw brick. పెల్లగించు or పెళ్లగించు pella-ginṭsu. v. a. To pull out, root out, draw out. To dig up, unbury, unearth, eradicate. ఆ చెట్టును పెళ్లగించి మరియొక చోట పెట్టినాడు, లేక, పాతినాడు he took up the tree and planted it elsewhere. పెల్లగిల్లు or పెల్లగిలు pella-gillu. v. n.To come out by the roots. పాదుఊడిలేచు. To run away, పారిపోవు. వాడు అత్తవారింటినుంచి పెల్లగిలివచ్చు గతిగా నుండలేదు he seems unlikely to stir from his mother in-law's house. గాలివానకు చెట్లు కుంకటివేళ్లతో పెల్లగిలినవి the trees were torn up by the roots by the storm. ఆ గోడగార అంతా పెల్లగిలిపోయినది all the plaster of the wall came off or peeled off.

(p. 794) pēṭu pēṭu. [Tel.] n. A flake, బిళ్ల, పట్టె. ఆ గోడగచ్చు పేటులెత్తినది the plaster of the wall came of in flakes. The top of a hill, పర్వతశిఖరము.

(p. 802) pokku pokku. [Tel.] v. n. To be blistered or excoriated. బొబ్బలేచు. పొక్కిన scalded. నా నోరు పొక్కినది my mouth is burn or sore. To be afraid, ఉలుకు, భయపడు. To grieve much or be afflicted. దుఃఖించు. To come off in flakes, as plaster. ఆ మాట విని పొక్కిపోయినాడు on hearing that word he grieved very much. n. A breaking out; a boil, blister, pustule, pock, బొబ్బ. A flake that has come off from a wall or anything else, ఎండిలేచినపెల్ల. Grief, దుఃఖము. పొక్కుడు pokkuḍu. n. Grief, అంగలార్పు. A flake, as of mortar, that has come off from a wall. పెల్ల పొక్కిలు or పొక్కిళ్లెత్తు to come off in flakes. పొక్కురోగము a chancre, పొక్కులు. పొక్కించు pokkinṭsu. To fret, blister, excoriate, scorch.

(p. 898) bettika bettika. [Tel.] n. A flake, that which comes off in flakes as plaster. ఎండినపెచ్చు, లేక, మంటిపెళ్ల.

(p. 898) bettu Same as బెత్తిక. Respectability. గౌరవము. A cane, బెత్తము. బెత్తుపరికె bettu-parike. n. A sort of sprat. Chaœtodon. ఒకచేపపేరు. బెత్తులెత్తు bettul-ettu. v. n. To come off in flakes. 'సర్వదిగ్వలయాంబరక్షితిభాగముల్ బెత్తులెత్త.' T. v. 11.

(p. 899) bellu or పెళ్ల bellu. [Tel.] n. A flake of earth, &c. బెల్లుతవ్వించు bellu-tavvinṭsu. v. n. To dig or break up ground. బెల్లుదుక్కి digging in lieu of ploughing. బెల్లు విరవడము to break up fallow ground. (These phrases are used in the western part of the country.)

Vaija. ii. 99. like horse, like saddle. adj. Large, పెద్ద. బొంతఅరటి bonta-araṭi. n. A large kind of plantain. బొంతకాకి bonta-kāki. n. A raven, the large Cormorant. కాకోలము. బొంతగంధకము bonta-gandhakamu. n. A sort of brimstone in flakes. బొంతజిముడు bonta-jemuḍu. n. A cactus of a large size used as a medicine. బొంతరాయి bonta-rāyi. n. A kind of pebbly rock, a conglomerate.
