(p. 165) uppu uppu. [Tel.] n. Salt. పెట్లుప్పు saltpetre. రాతి ఉప్పు rook salt. వెదురు ఉప్పు a sort of gum (tabasheer. Ainslie 1. 420.) found in the hollows of the bamboo. కప్పురంబు పెట్టి ఉప్పు కొనుట. (A. vi. 75.) To give camphor for salt, that is, what is valuable for what is worthless. ఉప్పుకండ uppu-kaṇḍa. n. Dried flesh, salt meat. ఉప్పుకాయ uppu-kāya. n. Salted fruit, pickle. ఉప్పు కాపడమిచ్చు to foment with heated salt. ఉప్పుకల్లు or ఉప్పురాయి a grain of salt. ఉప్పుచేప uppu-chēpa. n. A salted fish. ఉప్పుటేరు uppu-t-ēru. n. A salt stream. ఉప్పుపర్ర uppu-parra. n. Salt marsh. పర్ర ఊప్వ salt which effloresces on marshy places. బూడిదె ఉప్పు. ఉప్పుమడి uppu-maḍi. n. A salt pen, salt-bed. ఉప్పు మిడత uppu-miḍata. n. A kind of large black cricket. ఉప్పు రేవు uppu-rēvu. n. A place where salt is manufactured: ఉప్పురియు upp-uriyu. v. i. To moulder. ఉప్పురిసిపోయిన mouldering, dilapidated. కప్పురిసిన యిల్లు a house that sweats salt or that is going to decay. ఉప్పు సముద్రము uppu-samudramu. n. The ocean or salt sea.

(p. 248) kayyamu or కయ్యాటము kayyamu. [Tel.] n. A combat, fight, a quarrel. జగడము. కయ్యపుదిండి or కలహాశనుడు one who lives by fomenting quarrels. An epithet of Nārada. నారదుడు. కయ్యాల క్రచ్చ a quarrelsome fellow. సవతుల కయ్యాటము brawls between rival wives.

(p. 267) kācu kāṭsu. [Tel. from కాగు.] v. n. To be hot; to shine, as the sun or moon. To be hot as fever. To wait, dangle in attendence. నాకు జ్వరముకాచినది I had the fever on me. కొంచెము జ్వరముకాస్తున్నది there is a little fever. చలికాచుకొనుట to bask or sit by the fireside, or to warm oneself. ఎండకాస్తున్నది there is sunshine. ఆ చింతచెట్టు కాయడములేదు that tamarind tree does not bear. To wait for, attend on నాకొరకు కాచుకొన్నాడు he is waiting for me. అతని వద్ద మూడు ఏండ్లు కాచుకొని యుంటిని I was in attendance on his for three years. కాచు v. a. To boil; to heat, to warm. To bear fruit. కాగజేయు. ఆ ఊరంతా కాచి వడపోసినాడు lit. he has boiled and strained off the town, i.e., he has made himself master of the whole town. తేనీళ్లుకాచు to make tea. బెల్లము కాచడము sugar making. రాత్రి అంతా వారికి కాచడము కట్టడముతో సరిపోయినది the whole night was passed in fomenting and binding up the limbs.

(p. 424) cīlu chīlu. [Tel.] v. n. To split or crack. విదారితమగు. To withdraw from company. To be scattered. To fall off or drop off as paint. To divide, or branch off, as a road or stream. చీల్పించు chīlpinṭsu. (v. causal) To tear, divide, &c. To sow dissensions. చీలదీయు. chīla-dīyu. v. n. To split or to tear, to scatter, to divide. To seduce, beguile. To tempt, tamper with, raise dissensions, foment, worm out a secret. చీలిక or చీరిక chīlika. n. A slit, a slice. చీలుచు or చీల్చు chīluṭsu. v. a. To split, crack, tear, divide.

(p. 784) peñcu or పెనుచు penṭsu. [Tel. from పెను.] v. a. To nourish, support, take care of. To adopt or rear a child, పోషించు, సాకు. To increase, improve. To extend or swell. To exaggerate, to multiply. మాంసము మాంసమును పెంచును flesh meat increases the flesh. కలహము పెంచినాడు he fomented the quarrel. గ్రంథము ఊరక పెంచెను he spun the story (or book) out. గడ్డము పెంచు to grow or wear a beard తలపెంచు to wear one's hair long, to keep one's head unshorn. చెవులుపెంచు or చెవులు కుట్టించు to bore the ears. Chenn. iii.145. ముక్కుపెంచు to keep a hole open for a nose-jewel. దుఃఖముపెంచు to indulge in grief, దుఃఖముపొందు, దుఃఖించు. ND. i. 702. రోగమును పెంచినాడు he increased the illness. కథనుపెంచు to exaggerate. See పెంపు & పెంపకము. పెంచుకొను penṭsu-konu. v. a. To adopt. దత్తుతీసికొను.

(p. 804) poṭlamu poṭlamu. [Tel.] n. A packet, pack, bundle, little bag, paper or case to hold perfume, powder or medicine: medicine tied up in a cloth for the purpose of formentation. A crowd, గుంపు. An army, సేన. పొట్లమొత్తు to apply a fomentation. వారందరు నొకపొట్లముగానున్నారు all of them are in one cluster.
