(p. 212) oyya or ఒయ్యన oyya. [Tel.] adv. With gentleness, softly, sweetly. 'శిరములొయ్యవంచి.' Mand. ii. 3. ఒయ్యనొయ్య gently.

(p. 652) nidānamu nidānamu. [Skt.] n. The original cause, origin, source. ఆదికారణము. నిదానము. [Tel.] n. Steadiness, patience, gentleness, ఆత్రపడక విచారించుట. నిదానముగా మాట్లాడు speak gently. నిదానములేని మాట an uncertainty, a matter about which we are in doubt. పొద్దు నిదానము the exact time. నిదానస్థుడు nidāna-sthu-ḍu. n. A correct, prudent, thoughtful or patient man. నిదానించు nidāninṭsu. v. n. To pause, to deliberate or ponder. ఆత్రపడకవిచారించు నిదానముగా nidāna-mu-gā. adv. Steadily, soberly.

(p. 655) nimmaḷamu nimmaḷamu. [Tel.] n. Ease, comfort, quiet, patience, gentleness. శాంతము. adj. Easy, quiet, happy, well. నిశ్చింతము, స్వస్థము. నిమ్మళముగానున్నాడు he is well in health. నిమ్మళముగానున్నది it is well, proper, right. నిమ్మళముగా or నిమ్మళముమీద nimmaḷamu-gā. adv. Well, by degrees, gradually, gently. నిమ్మళముగా చేయుము do it at your leisure, do it slowly. నిమ్మళించు nimmaḷinṭsu. v. n. To be at ease, to be quiet or patient. నిశ్చింతమగు. To become better, స్వస్థమగు. To rest one-self. వానికి ఇప్పుడు నిమ్మళించినది he is better now.

(p. 932) mañci manchi. [Tel.] n. Good, మేలు, మంచి చెబ్బరలు good and evil. adj. Good, excellent, best; sound, fine, fair; much, great, severe (as a blow, a fever,) heavy (as rain.) adv. Very, మిక్కిలి. వాడు మంచివాడు he is a good man. మంచివారితో చెలిమిచేయుము seek the company of good men. మంచిపేరు a good name, i.e., reputation, character. వాడు మంచిపేరెత్తినాడు he gained good repute. మంచినీళ్లు good or drinkable water. వానితో మంచిమాటలాడి ఆ పుస్తకమును తెస్తిని. I spoke him fair, and brought the book. దీవియొక్క మంచి చెడుగులు వానికి నిమిత్తములేదు, లేక. దీని మంచి చెడ్డలతో వానికి ప్రసక్తిలేదు he has nothing to do with its good or evil fortune. మంచిగందము sandal, శ్రీచందనము. మంచిగాయము a severe wound. మంచిచేయి the right hand. మంచిదెబ్బ a sound or severe blow. మంచినిద్ర sound sleep. మంచినూనె sesamum oil. మంచిపాము a venomous snake, i.e., the cobra. మంచిపగడము real coral. మంచిపాలు pure milk, i.e., unmixed with water. మంచిముత్తెము a true pearl. మంచివాన heavy rain. ఇది మంచిబంగారా, కాకిబంగారా is this real gold or tinsel? ఒకటి మంచికుక్క ఒకటి వెర్రికుక్క one dog is sound, the other is mad. వానిమీద మంచితప్పు మోపినారు they have brought a serious charge against him. మంచిది పో well, you may go! మంచిది కానీ well, be it so! మంచితనము manchi-tanamu. n. Goodness, friendliness, gentleness. వానిని మంచితనము చేసికొన్నారు they spoke him fair or got him over. మంచితనాన అయ్యేది చెడుతనాన కాదు you may do that by fair means, which you cannot do by violence.

(p. 1031) mēvaḍi mēvaḍi. [Tel.] n. Humility, gentleness, నమ్రత. An expedient, tact, ఉపాయము. adj. Proper, fit, ఉచితము. మేవడికాడు mēvaḍi-kāḍu. n. A gentleman, a humble man, నమ్రతకలవాడు. A man of tact, ఉపాయశాలి.

(p. 1068) rasamu rasamu. [Skt.] n. Juice, fluid, liquid, extract, essence. Taste, flavour, రుచి. Taste, sentiment, emotion, passion, affection, humour. Quicksilver, పాదరసము. The షడ్రసములు or six flavours are మధురము or తీసి sweet; ఆమ్లము or పులుసు sour; తిక్తము or వగరు astringent; లవణము or ఉప్పు salt; కటువు or కారము pungent; కషాయము or చేదు bitter. రసఖండమైనభూమి or రసవత్తైనభూమి strong soil, which is not exhausted. నీరసమైనభూమి land that is exhausted. కోపరసము the spirit of wrath. దయారసము the spirit of love, kind feelings. ఈ పద్యములో రసములేదు this is a tasteless verse. విరసమైనమాటలు rude language. The nine రసములు or humours produce the following స్థాయీభావములు (symptoms.) 1. శృంగారరసము (love) produces రతి enjoyement. 2. నీరసము (honour) produces ఉత్సాహము daring. 3. కరుణారసము (mercy) begets విస్మయము marvel. 5. హాస్యరసము (merriment) produces హాస్యభావము laughter. 6. భయానకరసము (timidity) leads to భయము fright. 7. బీభత్సరసము (austerity) begets జుగుప్స sarcasm. 8. రౌద్రరసము (wrath) leads to క్రోధము cruelty. 9. శాంతరసము. (gentleness) produces శమభావము calmness. రసకర్పూరము rasa-karpūramu. n. A white sublimate or muriate of mercury, కర్పూరరసము. రసగుండు rasa-gunḍu. n. A ball coated with quicksilver, రసముపూరినగుండు. రసజ్ఞు rasa-gnya. n. The tongue, నాలుక. రజజ్ఞత rasa-gnyata. n. Skill, judgement, taste, critical discernment, తెలివి. రసజ్ఞుడు rasa-gnyuḍu. n. A man of taste, a critic. గుణదోషములనెరిగినవాడు. రసదాడి or రసదాళి rasa-dāḍi. n. Sugar cane. చెరుకు. 'మమధురస్థూలదాడిమబీజములతోడ, దసరారురసదాడిగనెలతోడ.' A. ii. 85. A fine sort of plantain. అరటిలో భేదము. రసదాళిక rusa-dāḷika. n. A kind of sugar, చెరుకుదినుసు. రసన rasana. n. The tongue., నాలుక. రసనేంద్రియము rasan-ēndriyamu. n. The sense of taste. రసవతి rasa-vati. n. A kitchen. వంటఇల్లు. రసవర్గములు rasa-vargamulu. n. plu. The various condiments or ingredients such as salt, pepper, &c. సంబారములు. రసవాదము rasa-vādamu. n. Alchemy, chemistry, పాదరసమునుకట్టి బంగారుచేయువిద్య. రసవాది rasa-vādi. n. An alchemist, a chemist, రసమునుకట్టి బంగారుచేయువాడు. రససిందూరము rasa-sindūramu. n. A sort of factitious cinnabar, made with zinc, mercury, blue vitriol and nitre, ఔషధవిశేషము. రససిద్ధి rasa-siddhi. n. Alchemy, రసవాదము. 'ధమనీయఖంబున గ్రాలించిమెరుంగుపసిడి గనెరససిద్దిన్.' R. vi. 10. రసాంజనము a kind of collyrium. అంజనవిశేషము. రసాతలము rasā-talamu. n. A name of Hades. పాతాళలోకము. రసాభాసము ras-ābhāsamu. n. Bad taste, inelegance. adj. Disagreeable, disgusting. విరసమైన. ఆ శ్లోకమును దిద్ది రసాబాసము చేసినాడు in correcting the verse he has spoiled it, he showed bad taste in correcting it. రసాభాసముగా మాట్లాడినాడు he spoke coarsely. ఆయిల్లు నిండా రసాభాసముగా నున్నది that house is very disagreeable. ఊరేగుచుండగా వాన వచ్చి అంతా రసాభాసమైపోయినది when the marriage procession was going on, there was a shower and everything was upset. రసాయనము ras-āyanamu. n. A panacea, a medicine preventing old age and prolonging life, జరావ్యాధిహరౌషధము. Butter milk, sweet curds, గోరసము, చల్ల. Poison, విషము. 'తననచో మాధుర్యమెనయు నా యివి చూడుమన్నట్లు మేలిరసాయనములు, ఒప్పుగా గిన్నియలనుంచి యపచరించి.' T. iii. 18. టీ రసాయనములు, తీసిగలిగిన పదార్థములు. రసాల rasāla. n. A pudding or mess of curds, mixed up with sugar and spices. పెరుగులో ననేక ద్రవ్యములు వేసి చేసినది. రసాలము rasālamu. n. The sugar cane, చెరుకు. Also, the sweet mango tree, తియ్యమామిడి చెట్టు. రసావళ్లు ras-āvaḷḷu. n. A kind of cakes. 'తన యింటనప్పుడాయితమొనరించినకమ్మదావు లొలుకురసావళ్లునుమినుపవడలు జాపట్లునుగోదుమ పిండివంటలున్ గలవనినన్.' Vish. iii. 377. రసి or రసిక rasi. [Tel.] n. The pus, or matter of a sore, serum. పుంటిచీము. రసిక rasika. [Skt.] n. A woman of taste. రసికురాలు. రసికత or రసికత్వము rasikata. [Skt.] n. Good taste or judgement. రసజ్ఞత. రసికుడు rasikuḍu. A man of taste. శృంగారాదిరసములను గ్రహించువాడు, రసజ్ఞుడు. రసితము rasi-tamu. n. Sound noise, thunder. ధ్వని, ఉరుము.

(p. 1176) vinayamu vi-nayamu. [Skt. వి+నయము.) n. Humility, modesty, gentleness, mildness, reverence, వినతి, వినమ్రత. వినయపూర్వకముగా or వినయవిధేయముగా humbly. వినయవంతుడు vi-naya-vantuḍu. n. A humble man, నమ్రతగలవాడు. వినయవర్తనుడు vi-naya-vartanudu. n. One who acts humbly, నమ్రతతో నడచుకొనువాడు.

(p. 1246) śāntamu ṣāntamu. [Skt.] adj. Calm, patient, tranquil, meek, humble; appeased, calmed, stilled, శమితము. n. Patience, mildness, gentleness, tranquility. ఓర్పు, తాలిమి, సమానము. శాంతి ṣānti. n. Tranquility, calmness, quietness, rest, peace, serenity. Stoicism, absencce of passion, quietism. Convalescencce, cessation or alleviation of disease. A religious rite to avert inauspicious accidents or to procure remission of disease. కామక్రోధాదిరాహిత్యము, ఉపళమసము, రోగాదులమట్టుపడడము, క్రూరగ్రహాదులకు ఉపశమనముగా చేసే క్రియ. గ్రామశాంతి a ceremony on completing a village to propitiate evil spirits, &c. ఋతుశాంతి the consummation of a marriage. రోగశాంతి the curing of a disease. తాపశాంతి allaying heat or excitement. దాహశాంతి quenching thirst. శాంతించు ṣāntintsu. v. n. To become calm, to be pacified, శాంతిని పొందు. To improve in health, to become better. మట్టుపడు. గుణపడు. శాంతిపరచు ṣānliparaṭsu. v. a. To mitigate, alleviate, calm, మట్టుచేయు.

(p. 1283) saṃyamamu sam-yamamu. [Skt.] n. Restraint or control of the passions. Humanity, compassion, the temper that shuns giving pain to others, gentleness. పరపీడాదినివృత్తి, హింసాదులను విడిచిపెట్టుట. సంయమి sam-yami. n. A hermit, or monk. ముని, సంయమముగలవాడు.

(p. 1321) sātvikamu ṣātvikamu. [Skt. from సత్వము.] n. Amiability, goodness, sincerity, gentleness. సాధుత్వము, సత్వగుణమువల్లగలిగినది. adj. Virtuous, amiable, good, well disposed, gentle, sincere, సత్వగుణావలభియైన, సుశీలముగల, సాధువైన. సాత్వికపూజ sātvika-pūja. n. A bloodless sacrifice. A bloody rite is called తామసపూజ. గావు ఇయ్యడము మొదలైన జీవహింసలేకుండా చేసే అర్చన. సాత్వికుడు sātvikuḍu. n. A peaceable man, a man of gentle temper. తిన్ననివాడు.

(p. 1362) saumyamu saumyamu. [Skt. from సోమ.] adj. Lunar. Handsome, pleasing. Mild, gentle, placid, చంద్రసంబంధమైన, సుందరమైన, శాంతమైన, తిన్నని. ఆయన నిండా సౌమ్యమూర్తి he is very mild or gentle. ఆయనకు జ్వరము కొంచెము సౌమ్యముగానున్నది his fever is now diminishing. n. Smoothness, gentleness, mildness. శాంతము, తిన్నదనము. సౌమ్య saumya. n. The name of a year. సౌమ్యవారము saumya-vāramu. n. Wednesday. బుధవారము. సౌమ్యుడు saumyuḍu. n. A name of Budhudu, given for his being the son of Soma by Tara or Venus. బుధగ్రహము. A mild man, తిన్ననివాడు, ఒప్పినవాడు. ఆయన మిక్కిలి సౌమ్యుడు he is very gentle.
