The Ashy-crowned Finch Lark. Pyrrhulauda grisca. (F.B.I.) పోతురాజు or పోతరాజు pōtu-rāḍsu. n. The name of a rustic god, like Pan, worshipped throughout the Telugu, Canarese and Mahratta countries. He represents the male principle associated with the village goddesses Gangamma, Peddamma, &c. A proverb says పాడుఊరికి మంచపుకోడుపోతురాజు in a ruined village the leg of a cot is a god. cf., 'a Triton of the minnows' (Shakespeare.) బమ్మెరపోతరాజు the name of a certain poet. పోతులరాజు pōtula-rāḍzu. n. A name given to a large hound.

(p. 857) baṅka banka. [Tel.] n. Slime, mucus, gum, glue, gluten, gelatine, any thing glutinous, sticky or clammy like jelly or like clay. Stinginess, avarice. బంకలుసాగు bankalu-sāgu. v. n. To be gummy or sticky. వానికి నెత్తురుబంక పడుచున్నది he has got dysentery. బంకచెట్టు banka-chetṭu. n. A tree from which gum arabic is obtained. బంకతుత్తెర a kind of shrub. బంక తెవులు banku-tevulu. n. A The 'gum evil,' a disease of corn. బంకపిట్ట banka-pitta. n. A name applied to various kinds of Swallows because they build their nests of mud. బంకపురుగు banka-purugu. n. A snail, lit: the 'sticky insect.' బంకభేది banka-bhēdi. n. Dysentery. బంకమన్ను banka-mannu. n. Clay. రేగడమన్ను. బంకముచ్చు banka-muṭsṭsu. n. An avaricious man, a miser. పిసినారి, లోభి.

(p. 859) bandana bandana. [from Skt. బంధన.] n. Slime, bird lime, gun, paste, glue, cement, any viscous matter, anything sticky. జిగట, బంక. బందనఅయిన viscous, glutinous. బందనగొను bandana-gonu. v. n. To become gummy or sticky జిగటగలదియగు.

(p. 982) miṅgu or మ్రింగు mingu. [Tel.] v. a. To swallow, devour. కబళించు. గ్రుక్కిళ్లు మింగు to swallow one's saliva, to stand speechless, to smother one's grief: to water, as the mouth, అపేక్షించు. గ్రుక్కిళ్లు ఎందుకు మింగుతావు చెప్పు why do you falter so in speaking. 'కన్నపుదొంగలువచ్చిరె, మిన్నక యీలోనివారె మింగిరటంచున్.' Vaij. iv. 54. the people inside have devoured it. మింగనగొండి, మింగగొడ్డి or మ్రింగనగొండి minga-na-goṇḍi. n. A glutton. తిండిపోతు. 'మనసిజారియు మింగగొండియయ్యె.' BD. iv. 1281.

A head man, a head labourer or 'maistry'. చిల్లరకులములకు కులశ్రేష్ఠనామము, కొందరు శిల్పులలో ముఖ్యుడు, మేస్త్రి. A eater, తినేవాడు. A glutton, తిండిపోతు. గడ్డిమేతరి a grass eater. విసపు మేతరి he who eats venom, i.e., Siva. మేతమేయు, మేతాడు or మేతలాడు mēta-mēyu. v. a. To eat, graze, feed on.
