The male of certain birds, animals and plants, పశు పక్షులలోమగది. ఆబోతు an ox, వృషభము. ఎనుబోతు a male buffalo. మేకపోతు a he-goat, a ram. నక్కపోతు a male fox. గొడ్డుపోతు a barren woman. పోతుటీగ a male fly. పోతుటేనుగు a male elephant. పోతుకరుడు the bigger surf, పెద్దఅల. పోతుతాడు the male palm tree. పోతురౌతు, an epithet of Yama, the god of Death, యముడు. పోతుపిల్ల, a male young one. పశుజాతిలో మగపిల్ల. పోతుపిల్లి a tom cat. పోతు sometimes means one who is addicted to, as తాగుబోతు a drunkard. తిండిబోతు a glutton. తూగుపోతు a sluggard వదురుబోతు a chatter box. పోతుపిచ్చిక or పెద్దపిచ్చిక pōtu-pichchika. n. The Ashy-crowned Finch Lark. Pyrrhulauda grisca. (F.B.I.) పోతురాజు or పోతరాజు pōtu-rāḍsu. n. The name of a rustic god, like Pan, worshipped throughout the Telugu, Canarese and Mahratta countries. He represents the male principle associated with the village goddesses Gangamma, Peddamma, &c. A proverb says పాడుఊరికి మంచపుకోడుపోతురాజు in a ruined village the leg of a cot is a god. cf., 'a Triton of the minnows' (Shakespeare.) బమ్మెరపోతరాజు the name of a certain poet. పోతులరాజు pōtula-rāḍzu. n. A name given to a large hound.

(p. 910) bōgu bōgu. [Tel.] n. An attempt, resolution, పూనిక, బోగబడి bōgu-baḍi. n. A glutton. దూబరదిండి.

(p. 982) miṅgu or మ్రింగు mingu. [Tel.] v. a. To swallow, devour. కబళించు. గ్రుక్కిళ్లు మింగు to swallow one's saliva, to stand speechless, to smother one's grief: to water, as the mouth, అపేక్షించు. గ్రుక్కిళ్లు ఎందుకు మింగుతావు చెప్పు why do you falter so in speaking. 'కన్నపుదొంగలువచ్చిరె, మిన్నక యీలోనివారె మింగిరటంచున్.' Vaij. iv. 54. the people inside have devoured it. మింగనగొండి, మింగగొడ్డి or మ్రింగనగొండి minga-na-goṇḍi. n. A glutton. తిండిపోతు. (p. 1028) mēta mēta. [Tel. from మేయు.] n. Food, meat, provender, forage. A lure or bait. పశుగ్రాసము. మేతరి mēt-ari. n. A head man, a head labourer or 'maistry'. చిల్లరకులములకు కులశ్రేష్ఠనామము, కొందరు శిల్పులలో ముఖ్యుడు, మేస్త్రి. A eater, తినేవాడు. A glutton, తిండిపోతు. గడ్డిమేతరి a grass eater. విసపు మేతరి he who eats venom, i.e., Siva. మేతమేయు, మేతాడు or మేతలాడు mēta-mēyu. v. a. To eat, graze, feed on.

Pining or longing, ఆశ, దుఃఖించుట, ఏకట. మొగుడు వచ్చిన తర్వాత దాని వాపుతీరినది the arrival of her husband put an end to her pining. వాపి vāpi. n. One whose body is swollen, వాపురోగముగలవాడు. వాపిరి vāpiri. (వాపు+ఇరి.) n. Lamenting, ఏకరుట. వాపిరిగొట్టు vāpiri-goṭṭu. n. A glutton. తిండిపోతు. A fickle-tongued man, వాక్చాపల్యముగలవాడు. A gloomy looking man, ఏకరువాడు, దుఃఖించుచుండువాడు. వాపు vāpu. (for వాయింపు.) n. Sounding a drum &c. వాయించుట. వాపుతెవులు. n. The dropsy. వాచేరోగము, శోఫ.

(p. 1166) vighnamu vighnamu. [Skt.] n. A hindrance, impediment, obstacle, obstruction, అడ్డంకి, ప్రతిబంధము. విఘ్నపడు vighna-paḍu. v. n. To be obstructed or hindered, అడ్డిపడు. విఘ్నేశుడు, విఘ్నేశ్వరుడు or విఘ్నరాజు vighn-ēṣuḍu. n. The usual name of Ganēsa (corresponding to Janus.) వినాయకుడు. A pot-bellied man, a glutton.

Nausea, loathing, repugnance, disgust, dislike, చీదర, అసహ్యము, దుస్సహత్వము. వెక్కసములు vekkasamulu. n. plu. Disgusting words. దుస్సహవచనములు. 'చకోరకదంబంబుల వుక్కిళ్లకు వెక్కసంబై ముక్కులకు నెక్కి చిక్కంబడి.' Swa. iii. 37. adj. Excessive, extreme. అధికము. Loathesome, disgusting, దుస్సహము. Hard to get, దుర్లభము. వెక్కసపడు or వెక్కసమందు vekkasa-paḍu. v. a. To abhor, to loathe, చీదరపడు, అసహ్యపడు. 'వెక్కసమందుచుకురుపతి, రక్కసుతో ననియె.' M. VI. iii. 99. వెక్కసపాటు vakkasa-pāṭu. n. The act of being disgusted, loathing. వెక్కసించు or వెక్కసమగు vekka-sinṭsu. v. n. To be glutted, or gorged. To exceed, మిక్కుటమగు. 'కన్నులకు వెక్కసంబైన చెన్నుమిగిలి.' Ellana. ii. 114. To become loathesome, disgusting or unbearable, దుస్సహమగు. వెక్కసములాడు vekkasamu-l-āḍu. v. a. To scold, to abuse, తిట్టు. 'అందరుమీదబడి వెక్కసములాడి ప్రహరించి యిల్లువెడలింప.' Sar. D. 386. వెక్కసి vekkasi. n. A loathsome, disgusting or unbearable person, దుస్సహుడు, దుస్సహురాలు.
