(p. 3) aṅkuśamu ankuṣamu, [Skt.] n. An elephant goad, an elephant driver's hook. Also, a check, a bar, a poser, a ruling case or argument. అంకుశమున నిలిపినాడు he made them stop short. ఇది జ్వరాంకుశము this is a specific against fever, that which arrests the disease. కవిగజాంకుశము (title of a book) a code to guide the poets. అంకుశమునకురాని ungovernable, head-strong, untractable, indocile.

(p. 4) aṅke anke. [Tel.] n. A numerical figure అంకము. Opportunity, time. One pack, half a bullock load. A form of అణక. Bringing the yoke under the neck, as by a troublesome bullock. ఎద్దులు అంకె వేసికొన్నవి the bullocks turned restive, bringing the yoke under the neck. A command, authority, control, restraint, check. అంకెగొను v. i. To cover oneself with కప్పుకొను. అంకెచేయు v. i. To obstruct అడ్డగించు.అంకెకురాని,(భాస్క.2.) ungovernable. అంకెకురావు, అనగా అక్కరకురావు they will not be of any use. అంకెవేసికొను or అణకవేసికొను v. n. To be restive, as a bullock in the yoke. ఎద్దయకాడికెదురు తిరుగుట. నాడు తేపతేపకు అంకెవేసికొనును. he turns restive every now and then.

(p. 17) ambāramu ambāramu. [H.] A heap of grain. ధాన్యరాశి. Also, the government share in a crop. (Vizag) అంబారసొఝు to heap up grain అంబారములుగా పడియుండు to lie in heaps. ఉభయరాశి అంబారము a heap of grain containing both the shares due to government to the landholder.

(p. 27) agrahāramu agra-hāramu. [Skt.] n. A street or village inhabited by brahmins. A village of which the old and hereditary cultivators are brahmins. A village granted to brahmins by government for charitable or religious purposes; either rent free, or at a favourable assessment. The conditions on which these villages are held are specified thus, సర్వాగ్రహారము a village free from all tax. శ్రోత్రియాగ్రహారము a village granted at a certain fixed assessment. జోడి అగ్రహారము, or బిల్మకా అగ్రగారము or, కట్టుబడి అగ్రహారము a village granted at a rent which fluctuates with the produce. అగ్రహారికుడు a brahmin belonging to such a village. అగ్రహారమనుభవించేవాడు he who enjoys a village free from tax.

(p. 29) accukonu aṭṭsu-konu. [Tel.] v. n. To pay, pay wrongfully, liquidate. దండగపెట్టు. వాడు దివాణమునకు పది రూపాయలు అచ్చుకొన్నాడు he paid ten Rupees to government. ఆ నేలకుగాను నలభైరూపాయలు అచ్చుకొనియున్నాను. I have suffered, on account of that land, a loss of forty rupees. మేము అచ్చుకొనువారము we will make it good.

(p. 29) ajā ajā. [H.] Amount. The whole, grand total. Also, the gross produce of a land including both the ryot's and government shares. [Vizag.]

(p. 46) adhikaraṇamu adhi-karaṇamu. [Skt.] n. Support. ఆధారము. In metaphysics, a substratum, a cateogry; in grammar, government, the dependence of words in a sentence, which agree together. అధికరించు adhikarinṭsu. [Skt.] v. a. and v. n. To excel, surmount, increase. పొడుగగు, ఎచ్చు. అతిశయించు. ఆ పాప మధికరించుచున్నది that vice is on the increase. అధికరించు v. a. (colloq.) To study, acquire a science. చదువు.

(p. 60) anvayamu anvayamu. [Skt.] n. Race, lineage. In grammar, the government of words in a sentence. Syntax. వంశము. పదముల యొక్క పరస్పరాకాంక్షాయోగ్యత, ఇమిడిక. ఈ. శ్లోకమునకు అన్వయము తెలియలేదు I do not perceive the syntax of this verse. దురాన్వయము a far-fetched allusion. కౌరవాన్వయుడు one of the Kuru race. అన్వయజ్ఞుడు a genealogist. అన్వయవ్యాప్తి (in Logic,) an affirmative argument అన్వయించు v. a. To arrange words in their natural order, explain the syntax. పదముల సంబంధమును చెప్పు, పొందికపరుచు.

(p. 74) amalu amalu. [H.] Authority, reign, sway, government. An office or post, a public charge. Execution, fulfilment, the period of one ruler's government. ఏలుబడి, దొరతనము, హయాము. అతని అమలులో in his reign or sway. ఆ కలెక్టరు గారి అమలులో in that Collector's days. ఆ తీర్పు అమలులోకి తేబడిన తరువాత after the decision was executed. వాని మీద అమలుచేసినారు they took steps against him, they put in force against him. అమల్దారుడు an Amildar, i.e., one who exercises authority. One who puts government orders into force. A Tahsildar or revenue officer in charge of Taluq.

(p. 74) amāni amānī. [H.] Land in charge of a revenue collector on the part of the government, as distinguished from that which is farmed out. అమానీగ్రామములు villages under the immediate care of a collector. ఆముఠా అమానీ అయిన తరువాత after the land was taken into the collector's own charge. ఆశ్రోత్రియమును అమానీదాఖలు చేసుకొన్న తరువాత after the land held on private tenure was taxed. అమానిభూములు Crown lands, lands that are in the hands of a collector on behalf of Government. అమానీబాజీబాబు sundry farms under a Collector's management. పన్ను లేకుండా మేడిపాలు ఇచ్చే భూమి.

(p. 80) ari ari. [Tel.] Affix denoting possession. నేర్పు skill, నేర్పరి skilful, సిగ్గు shame, సిగ్గరి timid. అరి ari. [Tel.] n. A bowstring. Tax, tribute. వింటినారి, ప్రజలవద్ద రాజులు మర్యాదకు పుచ్చుకొనేపాలు. అరివెట్టు to pay revenue. ఆరిగోరులు the share both of the government and of the inhabitants, i.e., the total produce. పుల్లరి tax on grazing lands. 'అరులుమిగుల గొనిరాజులు, నరులకు నెంతయును భయమొనర్తురు.' M. III. v. 302.

(p. 107) ākāṅkṣa ā-kānksha. [Skt.] n. Wish, desire. (In gram.) the government or concord of words in a sentence. ఈ శ్లోకమునకు ఆకాంక్షచెప్పు regarding this verse state who is meant. what did he do, where, why, to whom, &c. ఆకాంక్షించు akānkshinṭsu. v. a. To wish, long for.

(p. 139) irusālu or ఇర్సాలు iru-sālu. [H.] n. Sending, a remittance of money sent with a guard. The government money so sent. ఇరుసాలుచేయు to remit gold or silver. ఇర్సాలునామా an invoice of the sums sent and of the coins in which the payment is made.

(p. 202) ēlu ēlu. [Tel.] v. i. & t. To rule, govern. manage. To enjoy, to master. To possess or take. పరిగ్రహించు, పాలించు. ఏలించు ēlinṭsu. v. t. To cause one to rule. నిన్ను మాచెర్ల యేలింతును I will make you ruler of Mācherla. ఏలినవాడు ēlina-vāḍu. n. A ruler, lord, your honor. ఏలిక, రాజు, స్వామి. ఏలుకోటి ēlu-kōti. n. The people, subjects. Host assembly. ప్రజాకోటి. సకలమైనవారు. ఏలుబడి ēlu-baḍi. n. Government, reign. ఏలేవారు or ఏలువారు ēlē-vāru. n. The rulers. ఏలుకొను = ఏలు.

(p. 291) kuccela kuchchela. [Tel.] n. (plu. కుచ్చెలలు or కుచ్చెళ్లు.) A rick of corn. A heap of cut corn. జొన్నలలోనగువానికుప్ప. a land measure which in Guntur district is twenty nine acres or (33 3/16) thirty three gunṭas (see గుంట) and three sixteenths. One కుచ్చెల is nearly the same as a కత్తి of land, and is equal to eight గొర్రులు or 400 కుంటలు. The land that produces one stack of corn; it varies in various districts, and the above stated quantity is that fixed in the government rates. కుచ్చెళ్లువేయు to lay corn in ricks. కుచ్చెళ్లు See కుచ్చె. కుచ్చెలగంత or కుచ్చెల బొంత a bag of corn.
