A twig or small branch. చివ్వయీటెలు slender lances. గాలపుచివ్వ a fishing rod. A nerve. నాలుకచివ్వ the nerve of the tongue. మెడచివ్వ the sinew between the shoulder and the neck, also the nape. A kind of fireworks. బాణపుసంచువగ. చివ్వలాడి a quarrelsome woman, కలహశీలురాలు, చివ్వగడ chivva-gaḍa. n. A spear, a javelin చివ్యము chivvamu. n. An attack, a struggle చివ్వాలాడు to grapple with, to encounter. పులితో చివ్వాలాడు to be in grips with a tiger; i.e., to be in a critical position.

(p. 737) pātāḷamu pātāḷamu. [Skt.] n. The nether world, Hades, క్రింది లోకము. ఆ గుంట పాతాళము వలెనున్నది that pond is as deep as Hades. ఈ బావిలో నీళ్లు పాతాళములో నున్నవి the water is very low down in this well. 'పాతాళప్రశ్నలుమాని మేల్కొనుము.' A. vi. 77. టీ పాతాళప్రశ్నలుమాని అధోగతి ప్రశ్నలు విడిచిపెట్టి, దూరప్రశ్నలుమాని, నిండా గూఢముగా నుండేదానిని అడగడమును చాలించుకొని పాతాళగంగ. పాతాళగంగ pātāḷa-ganga. n. The name of the river that flows through the Hindu Hades. Also, the name of that branch of the Krishna which flows past Sri Sailum. పాతాళభది pātāḷa-bhēdi. n. A grappling hook or drag to recover things sunk in a river.

(p. 820) pōru pōru. [Tel.] v. n. To fight, contend, struggle. కలహించు, యుద్ధము చేయు. పోరి సాధించె he mastered it with difficulty. 'దర్పముమీరబోరు మదదంతులపోల్కి.' N. ix. 191. n. A fight, combat, struggle, quarrel; teasing, troubling, insistence. ఇంటిలోనిపోరు family jars or brawls. ఆ పిల్ల పోరుపెట్టుచున్నది the child is giving a lot of trouble. పిచ్చికపోరు the uproar that sparrows make. పోరుట pōruṭa. n. Fighting. పోరుదిండి pōru-dinḍi. n. A quarrelsome person, an epithet applied to Nārada, నారదుడు. పోరుపెట్టు pōru-peṭṭu. v. n. To tease, to plague, తొందరపెట్టు. To cry aloud, as a child. పోరాడు or పోరితమాడు pōr-āḍu. v. n. To fight, grapple, contend, struggle. కలహించు, యుద్ధముచేయు. పోరాట or పోరాటము pōr-āta. n. A combat, a fight, a dispute, కలహము, యుద్ధము. పోరించు pōrinṭsu. v. n. To breed a quarrel, to incite to quarrel. జగడానకు ఉసికొల్పు. 'నీపోటువాటుననిపుడిట్లుమమ్ము, పోరించితివిజంత్రబొమ్మనాయక్క.' HD. ii. 1194. పోరితము pōritamu. (పోరు+ఇతము.) n. War, a battle, a fight. యుద్ధము, పోరాటము. A quarrel, కలహము. Misunderstanding, స్పర్ధ.
