See అంబరు. అంబరమణి the gem of heaven, i. e., the sun. అంబరచరుడు one who dwells in the sky. అంబరాంబరుడు n. Sky-cinctured, that is, (dik-ambara) 'naked,' an epithet of Siva. శివుడు.

(F.B.I.) ఈగపులి the fly tiger, i.e., a spider. పులి౛ున్ను cheese of 'tiger's milk' equivalent to 'pigeon's milk' వాడు పెద్దపులి నలెమండిసాడు he was fierce, or, he acted in a many manner. పులిని చూచి నక్క వాత పెట్టుకొనినట్లు as a jackal brands itself to look like a tiger: a proverb meaning 'to ape another person.' పులికోచ puli-kōṭsa. n. The tarantula, a large venomous spider. పులిగోరు puli-gōru. A tiger's claw, used as the central ornament of a necklace. పులిచెవులాకు puli-chevul-āku. n. Tiger's ears; a certain medicinal plant. పులి౛ూదము puli-ḍzūdamu. A game like drafts. One sort is called గుమ్మడికాయపులి౛ూదము, because played with gourd seeds H. iv. 148. పులిటెంకి puli-ṭenki. n. A kind of fish. పులిపెంజెర puli-penjera. n. The snake called కాటుకరేకుపాము. పులిమెకము puli-mekamu. n. A certain fish, a species of Squalus or Tigrinus. Russell, plate. XVII. పులియడు puliyaḍu. n. A name given to a dog which looks like a tiger.

(p. 804) poṭṭi or పొటి poṭṭi. [Tel.] adj. Short, small in size. పొట్టింపుచీరణము a kind of a short chisel. పొట్టికాకర poṭṭi-kākara. n. The tree called Momordica muricata. పొట్టితనము poṭṭi-tanamu. n. Shortness of stature. పొట్టిపిట్ట or పొట్టిపిచ్చుక poṭṭi-piṭṭa. n. The Ashycrowned Fincylark, Pyrrhilauda grisca, (F.B.I.) పొట్టివాడు poṭṭi-vāḍu. n. A little man. కుబ్జుడు.

The male of certain birds, animals and plants, పశు పక్షులలోమగది. ఆబోతు an ox, వృషభము. ఎనుబోతు a male buffalo. మేకపోతు a he-goat, a ram. నక్కపోతు a male fox. గొడ్డుపోతు a barren woman. పోతుటీగ a male fly. పోతుటేనుగు a male elephant. పోతుకరుడు the bigger surf, పెద్దఅల. పోతుతాడు the male palm tree. పోతురౌతు, an epithet of Yama, the god of Death, యముడు. పోతుపిల్ల, a male young one. పశుజాతిలో మగపిల్ల. పోతుపిల్లి a tom cat. పోతు sometimes means one who is addicted to, as తాగుబోతు a drunkard. తిండిబోతు a glutton. తూగుపోతు a sluggard వదురుబోతు a chatter box. పోతుపిచ్చిక or పెద్దపిచ్చిక pōtu-pichchika. n. The Ashy-crowned Finch Lark. Pyrrhulauda grisca. (F.B.I.) పోతురాజు or పోతరాజు pōtu-rāḍsu. n. The name of a rustic god, like Pan, worshipped throughout the Telugu, Canarese and Mahratta countries. He represents the male principle associated with the village goddesses Gangamma, Peddamma, &c. A proverb says పాడుఊరికి మంచపుకోడుపోతురాజు in a ruined village the leg of a cot is a god. cf., 'a Triton of the minnows' (Shakespeare.) బమ్మెరపోతరాజు the name of a certain poet. పోతులరాజు pōtula-rāḍzu. n. A name given to a large hound.
