(p. 21) akṣaramu aksharamu. [Skt. lit Eternal. imperishable.] n. A letter, a single syllable, a character of the alphabet, hand writing. A single syllable, whether of one letter or more. Thus the word సంస్కృతం Sam-skru-tam is termed a word of three letters. ఏకాక్షరము a monosyllable. సంయుక్తాక్షరము two or more letters united in one syllable, as స్త్రీ wherein four letters are united. త్య్రక్షరి try-ak-shari; the sacred or mystic syllable (ఓం AUM, or O'M a name of the Deity) that contains three letters. అక్షరజ్ఞుడు a man of letters. అక్షరాభ్యాసము beginning to learn the alphabet or the first principles of a language; మంత్రాక్షరము a cypher of syllable used in magic. ఇది ఆయన అక్షరము కాదు this is not his handwriting. నీవద్ద అప్పుగా తీసుకొన్న రూ 300 అక్షరాల మున్నూరు రూపాయీలు i.e., 'Rs. 300 (three hundred Rupees.)' here the same sum is denoted in writing as well as in figures. వాడు నిరక్షరకుక్షి he is an illiterate man. వానికి నోట్లో అక్షరాలు లేచియున్నవి his mouth is inflammed. అక్షరవిన్యాసము, the array of letters, writing.

(p. 281) kindu or క్రిందు kindu. [Tel.] n. The ground. కింద kinda. (a postposition) Below, under. (p. 294) kuduru kuduru. [Tel.] v. n. To settle. స్థిరమగు. To recover (from illness) స్వస్థమగు. To be set, arranged, fixed, settled. To be got, obtained, found, come to hand. To fit or suit. అనుకూలమగు. To be introduced into an employ, to enter on it. To become firm, resolute. To succeed, prosper, flourish. కుదిరిన వ్రాత a settled handwriting అంతా బాగా కుదిరినది all is now right or settled. గణములు కుదరలేదు the metre is defective. ఆ పని వానికి కుదిరినది he obtained that employment. నాకు ఇల్లు కుదరలేదు. I cannot obtain lodgings. కుదురుపాటు kuduru-pāṭu. n. Settlement, arrangement, cure, remedy. కుదురుచు or కుదుర్చు or కుడిరించు kuduruṭsu. (causal of కుదురు.) v. n. To restore, to settle or arrange, to curl, to heal, to pacify, to calm, to fix or place. కుదురు kuduru. n. (G. కుదిటి Loc. కుదుట. Plu. కుదుళ్లు.) n. Settlement. Symmetry, gracefulness, beauty. A settle or ring of cord to prevent a pot from rolling over. చనుకుదురు a cancer in the breast. వాడు ఒక కుదిటివాడు he belongs to one branch of the family. ఒక్క కుదురైయున్నారు they live as one family. కుదురుకొను or కుదురుపడు kuduru-konu. v. n. To settle, to be settled. కదలకనిలుచు, నెలకొను, స్థిరపడు.

(p. 914) brahma brahma. [Skt. బృహ్. (brih) to increase, Probably, the Indianised form of the name of 'Abraham', as బ్రహ్మము is of 'Abram,' the పితామహ of the Jewish race. Compare their stories.] n. The god Brahma, the operative creator of the world. ఇది బ్రహ్మభేద్యముగానున్నది this is invincible even to Brahma. వాడు వట్టి యంబ్రహ్మ he is a mere simpleton. There are said to be nine Brahmas, viz., భృగువు, పులస్త్యుడు, పులహుడు. అంగిరసుడు, అత్రి, క్రతువు, దక్షుడు, వసిష్ఠుడు, మరీచి. బ్రహ్మము brahmamu. n. The deity, పరమాత్మ. The Veda, వేదము. Meditation, తపము. బ్రహ్మకమ్మి brahma-kammi. n. The seam that goes down the middle of a sheet. బ్రహ్మచర్యము brahma-charyamu. n. The bachelor state. Abstinence from sexual intercourse. బ్రహ్మచారి brahma-chāri. n. A bachelor or novice: the title borne by a Brahmin during the period of religious instruction, which extends from childhood up to manhood, when he is married. బ్రహ్మచారిణి brahma-chāriṇi. n. A maiden that remains unmarried, a female novice: a woman leading a life of continence. బ్రహ్మచర్యమును అనుష్ఠించు స్త్రీ బ్రహ్మణ్యము Same as బ్రహ్మదారువు, గంగ రావిచెట్టు, (q. v.). adj. Lit: a crop of pearls, an epithet applied to a sugar cane, చెరకు. ముత్తెపురిక్క నెల muttepu-rikka-nela. n. An epithet applied to the month, చైత్రమాసము. ముత్తెపుసవతు muttepu-savatu. n. (p. 1184) viraḷamu or విరాళము viraḷamu. [Tel.] n. A certain tax. ఒకవిధమైనపన్ను. (ఆడతివిరళాలు అని అంటారు.) [Skt.] adj.
