(p. 19) akka akka. [Tel. a Dravidian word borrowed by Sanskrit, where it is used in the sense of mother. cf. Lat. acca] n. An elder sister. అక్కచెల్లెళ్లు elder and younger sisters. పెద్దక్క the eldest sister. Any woman older than oneself is usually styled అక్క elder sister, or అమ్మ mother, madam: and any man older than onself is usually styled అస్న elder brother, or, అయ్య father, sir. పంటలక్క a cook or kitchen maid. Wood కట్టెలు. వంటచెరుకు kitchen fuel. చెరుకుపందెము a feat of skill and strength in sword play or with an axe, which consists in lopping off a stem of sugar cane at a single blow in any proposed manner. చెరుకువిల్తుడు or చెరుకువిలుకాడు an epithet of Manmadha, as his bow is made of sugar cane. చెరుకుపిచ్చిక cheruku-pichchika. n. The yellow-throated sparrow. Gymnorhis flavicollis, (F.B.I.) చెరుకడము or చెరకడము cheru-kaḍamu. n. Jaggery, బెల్లము.

(p. 732) pākamu pākamu. [Skt.] n. Cooking, dressing food, boiling, వంట. Maturity, natural or artificial, as the state of being cooked or ripened. పరిపాకము. The style of an author: the chief distinctions of which are కదళీపాకము the plantain style, which is easily comprehended, the plantain being quite soft and without stones: ద్రాక్షాపాకము or grape style, which is very superior and more difficult, to understand, and నారికేళపాకము or cocoanut style, which is puzzling and dry, requiring time and consideration to digest it. దేహపాకము the constitution of the body. ఆమెకు పాకశుద్ధికద్దు she is a good cook. లేహ్యపాకము the concoction or preparation of medicine. పాకగేహము pāka-gēhamu. n. A kitchen. వంటయిల్లు.

The back yard of a house, ఇంటివెనుకదొడ్డి. పాటిపెరడు a piece of ground manured by cattle confined there for that purpose. కూరపెరడు a kitchen garden. పెరటిగుమ్మము or పెరటిదోవ the backyard door, the back door. పెరటిచెట్టు మందకురాదు (a proverb) Lit: the tree in the backyard is considered to be of no use as a medicine. i.e., familiarity breeds contempt. 'నా పెరటి చెట్లుకల్పద్రుమములు.' R. v. 176.

Good taste or judgement. రసజ్ఞత. రసికుడు rasikuḍu. A man of taste. శృంగారాదిరసములను గ్రహించువాడు, రసజ్ఞుడు. రసితము rasi-tamu. n. Sound noise, thunder. ధ్వని, ఉరుము.
