(p. 5) aṅgamu angamu. [Skt.] n. The body, a limb, member, part, division or branch. అంగవంచకము = ఉపాయము, సహాయము, దేశకాలవిభజనము, ఆపదకు ప్రతిక్రియ, కార్యసిద్ధి. అద్భుతాంగులు beings having wondrous forms. అష్టాంగములు = the eight forms or stages of meditation, i. e, యమము, నియమము, ప్రాణాయామము, ప్రత్యాహారము, ధ్యానము, ధారణ, మననము, సమాధి. చతురంగములు the four divisions of an army, i. e., రథములు, ఏనుగులు, గుర్రములు, బంటులు. పంచాంగము the Indian calendar giving particulars of each day, as తిథి, వారము, నక్షత్రము, యోగము, కరణము. రాజ్యాంగములు the various departments of Government. షడంగములు or వేదాంగములు the six sciences dependent on the Vedas. i. e., శిక్ష, కల్పము, వ్యాకరణము, నిరుక్తము, జ్యోతిషము, ఛందస్సు. సప్తాంగములు = the seven constituents of a Government. స్వామి, అమాత్యుడు, సుహృత్తు, కోశము, రాష్ట్రము, దుర్గము, బలము. సాష్టాంగ ప్రణామము prostrate homage, touching the ground with eight members of the body, i. e., eyes or chest and forehead, hands, knees and feet.

(p. 15) andhakāramu andhakāramu. [Skt.] n. Darkness. చీకటి.

(p. 15) andhatamasamu andha-tamasamu. [Skt.] n. Thick darkness. కటికచీకటి, చిమ్మచీకటి.

(p. 33) aḍa aḍa. [Tel.] n. A lump, clot, mass (as of dates, sugar, hair, &c.) ముద్ద, చింతపండడలు lumps of tamarind. అడకట్టు or అడగొను to become clotted. ముద్దకట్టుకొను. తల అడలుకట్టినది the hair became matted, all the tresses are matted together. అడచేయు aḍa-chēyu. [Tel.] v. To knead and make into lump.

(p. 42) adantramu or అదంతరము adantramu. [Corrupted from Skt. అతంత్రము] n. Instability, weakness. Dependence, helplessness. అస్థిరత, అస్వతంత్రము.

(p. 51) anāmayamu an-āmayamu. [Skt.] Free from sickness.

(p. 51) anārōgyamu an-ārōgyamu. [Skt.] n. Sickness, unhealthiness.

(p. 64) apāṭavamu a-pāṭavamu. [Skt.] n. Weakness, infirmity, illness, అశక్తి. వానికి ఒళ్లు అపాటవముగానున్నది he is unwell.

(p. 98) aśaktamu, aśaktata or అశక్తి aṣaktamu. [Skt.] n. Weakness, inability, illness, దుర్బలము, అసమర్థత, వ్యాధి. నేను అశక్తముగానున్నప్పుడు when I was ill. అశక్తుడు a-ṣaktuḍu. n. An invalid, a patient, a sick man. రోగి. అశక్తులు invalids, patients.

(p. 105) ā The broad vowel A, as in arm, father. [The Secondary form of this letter is -- which is a modified form of the upright stroke | used to denote the long sound of a in Sanskrit. [The ingenuity of the inventors of the Indian Alphabets is shown by the way in which they formed the long vowels out of the short ones by giving a slightly different turn to their forms. See Taylor.] 2. The demonstrative sign, as ఆ పని that act, ఆ కథలు those stories, ఆ వెనుక after that, ఆ తెల్లవారి next morning. ఆ ఆ (or ఆయా) యిండ్లలో in the various houses. 3. As a contraction ఆ stands for ఆశ్వాసము chapter; also for a certain verse ఆటవెలడి of a certain metre. 4. As a Sanskrit prefix it means Upto, Until, As far as; as ఆచంద్రార్కము or ఆచంద్రతారకము as long as the moon and the sun or stars last. ఆజానువు to the knee. అపాదమత్తకము. from head to foot. ఆబాలగోపాలము up to or including the children and the shepherds. ఆసముద్రము as far as the sea. See ఆకంఠము and ఆచండాలము. 5. A Telugu affix denoting question, or surprise as అతడా (is it) he? 6. An interjection ఆ, or ఆ ఆ, or ఆహ Yes, Aye: or Ah! A. iv. 5.

(p. 110) ājānubāhuḍu ā-jānu-bāhuḍu. [Skt.] n. Longimanus: one whose arms reach to his knees.

(p. 111) āḍa āḍa. [Tel. corrupted from ఆడు] adj. Female. ఆడగుంపు a mob of women. ఆడకండ్లదానను I am a timid woman ఆడకూతురు a woman. ఆడతనము āḍa-tanamu. n. Womanishness, weakness. ఆడది āḍadi. A woman; plural ఆడవాండ్లు or ఆడవాండ్రు ఆడపడుచు āḍa-paduṭsu. A girl, a young woman. ఆడపాప āḍa-pāpa. Girl. A lady in waiting, a handmaid. ఆడమనిషి āḍa-manishi. A woman.

(p. 117) āmayamu āmayamu. [Skt.] n. Sickness, disease. రోగము.

(p. 129) āsanamu ā-sanamu. [Skt.] n. A seat: a posture or mode of sitting and kneeling, as పద్మాసనము.

(p. 139) irulu irulu. [Tel.] n. Shades, shadows, darkness. చీకటి, చీకట్లు. ఇరులుకొను irulu-konu. v. n. To become dark or obscure. చీకటిపడు. ఇరులగొంగ irula-gonga. n. The destroyer of darkness. i.e., the Sun.
