(p. 1396) andhalamu andalamu. [Skt.] n. A ledge or ridge half way up the bank of a tank or well.

(p. 27) acittu a-chittu. [Skt.] n. That which has no life or understanding. Matter, as opposed to mind చిదచిద్ జ్ఞానము knowledge of the distinction between matter and mind.

(p. 30) ajñānamu a-gnyānamu. [Skt.] n. Ignorance. అవివేకము, మూఢత్వము. అజ్ఞానబంధములు the fetters of ignorance. అజ్ఞాని a-gnyāni. [Skt.] n. An ignorant person, a person without knowledge. 'ఆచారమెరుగని అజ్ఞాని నేను.'

(p. 30) ajñuḍu agnyuḍu. [Skt.] n. An ignorant person, one without knowledge.

(p. 38) aḍḍamu aḍḍamu. [Tel.] n. Obstacle, hindrance, A screen. అభ్యంతరము, ఆటంకము, చటు. A pledge తాకట్టు నీ మాటకు అడ్డము లేదు no one will resist you. వాండ్లకు మాకు గోడ అడ్డముగా ఉండినది there was a wall between them and us. ఒక నగను అడ్డము పెట్టి యిరువైరూపాయలు తెచ్చినాడు he pawned a jewel and got twenty rupees. నా పనికి అడ్డము వచ్చినాడు he opposed my endeavours. మొగుణ్ని అడ్డముపెట్టుకొని తానే అన్ని పనులు చూచుకొనిపోయినది she used her husband as a screen and carried on the business. వాడు తండ్రికి అడ్డమాడుతాడు he opposes or contradicts his father. తిరుపతికి పోయేలోగా మూడేళ్లు అడ్డమువస్తవి there are three rivers to cross on the way to Tirupati. ఏదో ఒకటి వచ్చి అడ్డముపడినది something has got in the way. వానికి అడ్డము తగిలినారు they interrupted him. కొంతదూరము దోవనే పోయి అవతల అడ్డము తిరిగినాడు or అడ్డము తొక్కినాడు he went along some way and then cut across. 'కరాగ్రములు దృష్టులకడ్డమిడుచు.' BD. iv. 1532. అడ్డముగా aḍḍamu-gā. [Tel.] adv. Crosswise, across, transversely. చెట్టు కండ్లకు అడ్డముగానున్నది the tree intercepts the view, నేను అడ్డముగా నిలిస్తిని I stood in his way.

(p. 48) adhyātmamu adhyātmamu. [Skt.] n. The soul; individuated spirit or that which belongs to, and presides over the body. The supreme spirit. జీవాత్మ, పరమాత్మ Also, Knowledge. జ్ఞానము. అధ్యాత్మ adj, Spiritual, belonging to spirit, inherent. ఆత్మసంబంధమైన. అధ్యాత్మజ్ఞానము knowledge of the Supreme spirit. అధ్యాత్మరామాయణము Ramayana explained as an allegory relating to the Supreme spirit. అధ్యాత్మికము or అధ్యాత్మికము adj. relating to the soul, spiritual.

(p. 48) adhyāpanamu adhyāpanamu. [Skt.] n. Instruction in sacred knowledge. అధ్యాపకుడు adhyāpakudu. [Skt.] n. A teacher, one who instructs in the sacred books. వేదములను నేర్పువాడు.

(p. 63) apalapiñcu or అపలాపము చేయు apa-lapinṭsu. [Skt.] v. a. To deny, conceal. ఉండగా లేదను, ఎరిగియుండగా ఎరుగనను, మరుగుచేయు. అపలాపము apa-lāpamu. [Skt.] n. Denial, concealment of knowledge, evasion. ఉండగా లేదనడము, ఎరిగియుండగా ఎరగననడము.

(p. 96) avidya a-vidya. [Skt.] Want of knowledge, ignorance. అజ్ఞానము.

(p. 114) ādhi ādhi. [Skt.] n. Sorrow. వ్యసనము, anxiety. మనోవ్యధ; pledge, pawn. కుదువ Also, a residence. ఉనికిపట్టు.

(p. 130) āstikuḍu āstikuḍu. [Skt. from ఆస్ to be] n. A believer in a god, one who acknowledges the existence of God, in opposition to నాస్తికుడు an atheist. ఆస్తిక్యము āstikyamu. n. Belief in the existence of God. Theism. ఈశ్వరుడు కలడనడము.

(p. 130) āhakamu āhakamu. [Tel. for ఆయకము.] n. Pledge. కుదువ. Harischandra ii. [Skt.] n. A disease that affects the nose. ముక్కునకు కలుగు ఒక రోగము.

(p. 131) iṅgitamu ingitamu. [Skt.] n. Hint, sign, gesture, symptom. Intention, purpose, inclination. ఆకారేణైన చతురస్తర్కయంతి పరేంగితం, గర్భస్థం కేతకీపుష్ప మమోదదేనైవ షట్పదాః. From the countenance the wise discover the disposition as bees discover the unblown lily by its scent. ఇంగితజ్ఞుడు penetrating, skilful in reading a man's character, one who sees the heart. పరేంగితము knowledge of another's intention.

(p. 133) indriyamu indriyamu. [Skt.] n. An organ of sense. జ్ఞానేంద్రియములు organs of perception, కర్మేంద్రియములు organs of action, and అంతరింద్రియములు the internal organs, the first includes the eye, ear, nose, tongue, and skin; the second, the organ of speech, or larynx, hand, foot, and the organs of generation. The last are మనసు the mind or organ of thought; బుద్ధి the organ of apprehension, అహంకారము the organ of self-knowledge or consciousness, and చిత్తము the heart or organ of feeling. ఇంద్రియువృత్తి the natural propensities. పంచేంద్రియములు the five organs of sense. పంచేంద్రియబద్ధుడు the sensual man, one who is a slave to his lusts.

(p. 147) uṅkuva unkuva. [Tel.] n. A pledge money given to the parents of a bride 'originally as a purchase price.' అల్లుడు కన్య కొరకై మామకిచ్చు ద్రవ్యము. శుల్కము.
