(p. 253) karta karta. [Skt. from √ - kri, to make.] n. Maker, author, doer. చేయువాడు. The nominative case in grammar. గ్రంథకర్త an author. అట్లు చెప్పడానకు కర్తలమా who are we that we should say this? అర్థాంశ కర్త a half owner. విచారణకర్త a superintendent, an examiner. ధనఋణంబులకు కర్తతనయుండుగదా a son is the person concerned in our gains and losses. గ్రామకర్త the head of a village. 'వెరపెరుంగక స్వచ్ఛందవృత్తియందు నాకొకడు కర్త లేడు.' I live according to my own inclinations and have no master. వాని ధనఋణములకు కర్త నయినాను I came in for both his goods and debts. కైంకర్యకర్త he who presents a sacrifice; ధర్మకర్త the warden of a temple. న్యాయకర్త an officer of justice, a ruler. తన ఆస్తిని నలుగురు ధర్మకర్తలను ఏర్పరచిపోయినాడు he died leaving four guardians or executors of his property. స్మృతికర్త a lawgiver, a legislator. క్షేత్రకర్త a mere tenant at will.

(p. 922) bhāṣa bhāsha. [Skt.] n. A language, speech, dialect. A word, phrase, expression. మాట. A solemn undertaking, vow, engagement: what one gives his word for, an oath, ప్రతిజ్ఞ, ప్రమాణము. దేశభాష the vernacular of a country. భాషణము bhāshanamu. v. n. Speaking, speech. మాటాడుట. భాషాంతరము bhāsh-āntaramu. n. Another language: a translation. భాషాగ్రంథము bhāshā-granthamu. n. A poem in a modern or vernacular language, not in Sanskrit. భాషామంత్రము bhāshāmantramu. n. A spell or charm, written in any vernacular language, not in Sanskrit. భాషించు bhāshinṭsu. v. n. To speak, use language, converse, talk, సూటటాడు. భాషితము bhāshitamu. n. Speech, language. మాట. adj. Spoken, మాటాడిన. భాష్యము bhāshyamu. n. A commentary, a paraphrase or exposition either of scripture or a work on science, సూత్రవ్యాఖ్యానగ్రంథము. భాష్యకారులు or భాష్యకార్లు bhāshya-kārulu. n. A commentator or expounder of technical texts; commonly appliéd as an epithet to two authors names పతంజలి. and ఎంబెరుమానారు. This last is one of the chief legislators of the Vaishnavite Brahmins. His disciples subsequently separated into the two Sects called Tengala and Vedagala. భాష్యకార్లు is also vulgarly used for బాసికములు fillets worn at weddings.

(p. 953) manuvu manuvu. [Skt.] n. A mystical verse or formula. మంత్రము. A legislator and saint called Manu. There are said to be fourteen of these Manus, viz., స్వాయంభువు, స్వారోచిషుడు, ఉత్తముడు, తామసుడు, రైవతుడు, చాక్షషుడు, వైవస్వతుడు, సూర్యసావర్ణి, దక్షసావర్ణి, బ్రహ్మసావర్ణి, ధర్మసావర్ణి, రుద్రపావర్ణి, రౌచ్యుడు, భౌచ్యుడు. మనుజుడు or మనుష్యుడు manujudu. n. A man, a human being. మనుజాశనుడు manuj-āṣanuḍu. n. Lit. An eater of men, i.e., a demon, రాక్షసుడు. మనుజేంద్రుడు manuj-ēndruḍu. n. A king, రా౛ు. మన్వంతరము manv-antaramu. n. An age or period of time supposed to be under the sway of one Manu, ఏకసప్తతిదివ్యయుగములు, మనుకాల మధ్యచరిత్రము. (Vulgarly) Time, a rule, reign; thus చందులాలు మన్వంతరములో or హయాములో in the time of Chandulala a former governor of Hyderabad. అతని మనవ్వంతరముతీరినది his days are ended.
