(p. 14) andu andu. (a defective pronoun.) There, in that place. అక్కడ. అందుకు or అందులక thereof, thereto, for that. అందులో therein. అందున or అందుచేత thereby, by that. అందునిమిత్తము therefore. అందుమీదట adj. thereafter. అటుతర్వాత, వాడు వచ్చి చేరినందుమీదట. after his arrival. అందులకు (an affix) thereto, for that. వ్రాయగలందులకు ad scribendum, to write. అందువల్ల (an affix) thereby. పోయినందువల్ల యేమి ప్రయోజనము what is the use of going? ఆయన రాగలందులకు for his coming. నేను వచ్చేటందుకు అయిదు దినములు పట్టును it will take five days for me to come. అట్లా ఉన్నందుకు for its being so. వాడు అట్లా చేసినందుచేత as he has done so. వాడు అట్లా చేసేటందుచేత by his doing so. అందులకు ఒక ప్రతి వ్రాసినాడు he wrote a copy of it. 'ఇందుగలడందు లేడని సందేహమువలదు' there is no doubt he is every where. ఇందు అందు both here and there; here and hereafter: in this life and the next. అంద in the same place దానియందే; అందలి = అక్కడ ఉండే.

(p. 27) acatanamu a-chētanamu. [Skt. lit. live-less]. adj. Devoid of life. Inanimate, insensible.

(p. 27) acittu a-chittu. [Skt.] n. That which has no life or understanding. Matter, as opposed to mind చిదచిద్ జ్ఞానము knowledge of the distinction between matter and mind.

(p. 28) accāḷi or అచ్చాళు aṭṭsāḷi. (K) One who lives a single life, an unmarried person. ఒంటిమనిషి, ఏకాంగిగా మండేవాడు, సంసారపు పీకులాటలేనివాడు అచ్చాళుగానుండు or అచ్చాళిగానుండు to be alone, to be quiet, free from perturbation. 'చారుశిలాముఖ్యజలజలోచనల, చేరికాబంధుల చెలులనీక్షణమె, పగరకుజొరరాక బహుదుర్గమార్గ, మగుకోహళమహర్షి యాశ్రమస్థలిని, జేరిచి మనము నిశ్చింతనేతెంచి, యారూఢిబలయుక్తి నచ్చాళిగాగ, అనికిసన్నద్ధులమై యందమవల.' Pātivratya. 35.

(p. 30) ajñata a-gnyata. [Skt.] n. Ignorance. తెలివిలేమి. అజ్ఞాతవాసము agnyāta-vāsamu. [Skt.] n. Living incognito. తాను ఇట్టివాడని తెలియకుండా ఉండడము. ఆ రాజు అక్కడ అజ్ఞాత వాసము చేసినాడు the king lived there incognito. పాండవుల అజ్ఞాతవాసము the life led by the Pandavas in retirement.

(p. 50) anarulu anarulu. [Tel.] n plu. The vitals, the parts essential to life. ఆయువుపట్టులు, మర్మస్థావరములు.

(p. 61) apagatamu apa-gatamu. [Skt.] adj. Gone, departed, deceased, dead. మృతము, గతము, అపగతప్రాణులైన deprived of life.

(p. 64) apāyamu apāyamu. [Skt.] n. Peril, danger, mischief. హాని, చెరుపు, చేటు. ప్రాణానికి వచ్చిన అపాయము the peril of life, mortal peril.

(p. 94) avanamu avanamu. [Skt.] n. Preservation, protection, rescue. రక్షణము. 'గజప్రాణావమోత్సాహి' one who hastens to save the life of the elephant.

(p. 100) aṣṭa ashṭa [Skt. cf. Eng. 'Eight,' Lat. Octo.] adj. Eight.--అష్టకష్టములు The eight unpleasant circumstances liable to occur in the course of life. [Viz. దేశాంతర గమనము foreign travel, భార్యావియోగము separation from one's wife. కష్టకాలములో ప్రియబంధుదర్శనము friends and relations arriving in the time of trouble, ఎంగిలితినడము eating the leavings of others, తన, శత్రువులతో స్నేహము చేయడము courting one's enemies, పరాన్నమునకు కాచియుండడము looking for food from strangers, సభలో అప్రతిష్ఠవచ్చుట being ignorant in an assembly of wise men, దరిద్రమనుభవించడము suffering poverty.] అష్టకోణి an octagon, అష్టదిక్కులు the eight points of the compass.--అష్టదిక్పాలకులు the regents of the eight points of the compass, viz. Indra of the East, Agni of the South-east, Yama of the South, Nairriti of the South-west, Varuṇa of the West, Marut of the North-west, Kubēra of the North, and Iṣana of the South-east.--అష్టదిగ్గజములు the elephants supporting the eight corners of the earth-అష్టనగములు the eight serpents supporting the eight angles or points of the world. Their names are as follow: వాసుకి, అనంతుడు, తక్షకుడు, శంఖపాలుడు, కుళికుడు, పద్ముడు, మహాపద్ముడు, కార్కోటకుడు. అష్టవదులు a certain set of songs of eight lines in length.-అష్టపాత్రములు the eight vessels used in a sacrifice.--అష్టభాగ్యములు the eight requisites to the regal state; as రాజ్యము territory, భండారము wealth, సేన్యము an army, ఏనుగులు elephants, గుర్రములు horses, ఛత్రము an umbrella, చామరము a fly fan or whisk, ఆందోళిక a palanquin.--అష్టభోగములు the eight sources of pleasure, viz., ఇల్లు house, పరుపు bed,వస్త్రము raiment, అభరణము jewels, స్త్రీలు women, పుష్పము, flowers, గంధము perfume, తాంబూలము areca nuts and betel-leaves.--అష్టమదములు eight kinds of pride, viz., అన్నమదము luxury in food, అర్థమదము pride of wealth, స్త్రీమదము pride of lust, విద్యామదము pride of learning, కులమదము, pride of rank and family, రూపమదము pride of beauty, ఉద్యోగమదము pride of station, యౌవనమదము pride of youth.-- అష్టస్వామ్యములు the eight respects in which an absolute conveyance is made, viz., విక్రయ, దాన, వినిమయ, జల, తరు, పాషాణ, విధి, నిక్షేపములు -- అష్టాంగములు See under అంగము. సాష్టాంగదండము prostration in worship. -అష్టాపదము an eight legged dragon: a spider. అష్టావధానము See under అవధానము. అష్టైశ్వర్యములు complete comfort, every blessing, also eight attributes, viz., అణిమ, మహిమ, గరిమ, లఘిమ, ప్రాప్తి, ప్రాకామ్యము, ఈశత్వము, వశిత్వము.

(p. 102) asahāyata a-sahāyata. [Skt.] n. Loneliness, solitude, the life of a hermit. ఒంటి, అసహాయశూరుడు a-sahāyaṣūruḍu. n. He who fights single-handed. అసహాయుడు a-sahāyuḍu. n. He who is friendless, he who is single-handed. ఒంటిగాడు, రెండోమనిషి సహాయము లేనివాడు.

(p. 119) āyurvēdamu āyur-vēdamu. [Skt.] n. The science of life. Hygiene or medicine. ఆరోగ్యశాస్త్రము లేక వైద్యశాస్త్రము.

(p. 120) āyuvu āyuvu. [Skt.] n. Age, life, duration of life. ఆయువుతీరి చచ్చినచావు a natural death, death from old age. ఆయుర్దాయము period of life. ఆయుస్సు. ఆయుష్కరము āyush-karamu. adj. Life-lengthening. ఇది నీకు ఆయుష్కరము this will lengthen your days. āyush-karmamu. n. A polite term for shaving, క్షౌరము, as the 'renewing of one's age.' ఆయుష్మంతుడు āyushmantuḍu. adj. Long lived. n. One who can live a long life. ఆయుష్యము or ఆయుస్సు āyushyamu. n. Life.

(p. 128) āśramamu āṣramamu. [Skt.] n. Abode, cell, hermitage, retreat (equivalent to a Living, rectory or see). State, stage, period or time of life from a religious point of view. There are four such stages, viz, 1. బ్రహ్మచర్యము bachelorhood or studentship. 2. గార్హస్థ్యము house-holdership or being head of a family. 3. వానప్రస్థము being an anchorite. 4. సన్యాసము being a recluse. ఆశ్రమధర్మము the duties peculiar to each stage of life. ఆశ్రమస్వీకారము āṣrama-svīkāramu. n. Embracing the ascetic condition: bidding farewell to the world.

(p. 139) ilakarucu or ఈలకరుచు ila-karuṭsu. [Tel.] v. i. and t. To be set, jammed, stuck. వానికి తల యిలకరుచుకొని పోయినది his head is jammed or sunk between his shoulders. 'ప్రాణము ఇలకరుచుకొన్న' P. iii. 196. hard to kill: having stubborn life. అతనికి పండ్లు ఇలకరిచినవి his jaws were set, he gnashed his teeth. A. v. 13.
