(p. 1) a a. 3. [Tel.] The termination of many pure Tel. words in the fem. and neut. genders, e. g., అమ్మ, అక్క, అత్త, అప్ప, అవ్వ, దండ, కర్ర, నేల, వల, ఓడ. But of a few maseulines only; e. g., తాత, మామ, అన్న, బావ, దొర.

(p. 3) aṅkuśamu ankuṣamu, [Skt.] n. An elephant goad, an elephant driver's hook. Also, a check, a bar, a poser, a ruling case or argument. అంకుశమున నిలిపినాడు he made them stop short. ఇది జ్వరాంకుశము this is a specific against fever, that which arrests the disease. కవిగజాంకుశము (title of a book) a code to guide the poets. అంకుశమునకురాని ungovernable, head-strong, untractable, indocile.

(p. 4) aṅgaḍi angadi. [Drav.] (Gen. అంగటి Loc. అంగట, plu. అంగళ్లు) n. A shop. అంగడిపెట్టు to open a shop. అంగళ్లవాడ range of shops. అంగట పోకార్చి selling in the shop. అంగడివీధి a market place. ఆ సంగతిని అంగడిలో పెట్టినాడు he revealed or exposed the matter.

(p. 4) aṅgavradakṣiṇamu anga-pradakshiṇamu. [Skt.] n. Rolling the body like a log to the right for a distance or round a temple, as a religious vow or penance. ప్రార్థన చేసికొనువాడు గుడి మొదలగువాటికి ప్రదక్షిణముగా దొరలుట.

(p. 7) añcu anṭsu. [Tel.] pres. part. of అను to say think. Saying, calling, considering, thinking.

(p. 12) antaryāmi antaryāmi. [Skt.] n. (Lit. The indweller.) The soul. The Supreme Spirit. లోపల వసించేవాడు, జీవాత్మ, పరమాత్మ. అంతర్యామిత్వము antaryāmitvamu. [Skt.] n. Indwelling. Abiding (vide శంకరవిజయము.)

(p. 15) andakurālu anḍhakurālu. [Skt.] n. A blind woman. గుడ్డిది.

(p. 15) andhakuḍu andhakuḍu. [Skt.] n. A blind man. గుడ్డివాడు.

(p. 15) andhamu andhamu. [Skt.] adj. Blind. గుడ్డి.

(p. 15) andhuḍu andhuḍu. [Skt.] n. A blind man. గుడ్డివాడు మదాంధుడు One who is blinded by passion or pride.

(p. 15) andhruḍu andhruḍu. [Skt.] n. This word in ancient times meant a hunter, who lives by killing game. See the Laws of Manu X. 36. వ్యాధుడు, మృగవధాజీవి, కిరాతుడు.

(p. 17) ambāḷamu or అంబాళవృక్షము ambālamu. [Tel.] The hog-plum (Spondias mangifera). the fruit resembling the mango. నోరు అంబాళపుపండు చెయ్యి బలుసుముల్లు your mouth is like a sweet plum and your hand is like a thornbush. (Carr).

(p. 19) akālamu a-kālamu. [Skt.] n. Untimeliness. unseasonableness. adj. Untimely. Unseasonable. అసమయమైన అకాలమృత్యువు an untimely death. అకాలకుసుమము a flower blossoming out of season.

(p. 20) akku akku. [Tel.] n. The breast or chest. రొమ్ము. అక్కునచేర్చి embracing. వాని అక్కులు చెక్కులు ఎండినవి (lit: his breast and cheeks are dried up.) he is emaciated. అక్కుపక్షి a starveling, a wretch, a fool. అక్కుగొర్రు a spear piercing the heart. 'అవనీశులకునెల్లనక్కుగొర్రగుచు.' BD. 4. 1858.

(p. 21) akṣamu akshamu. [Skt.] n. A die to play with; dice; an axle. సొగటాలపాచిక, ఇరుగు. Terrestrial latitude. అక్షకర్ణము = The hypotenuse, especially of the triangle formed with the gnomon of a dial and its shadow; in astronomy, the argument of the latitude. అక్షాగ్రము, the end of an axle. అక్షాగ్రశీలము, a linch-pin; the pin which fastens the yoke to the pole. రుద్రాక్ష, the seed of Elcocarpus Ganitrus, or of Beleric Myrobalan, which is used as a die. అక్షావపనము, a dice-board అక్షతత్వము science of dice. అక్షవిద్య aksha-vidya.
