అసుర
(p. 103) asura or అసురుడు asura. [Skt. lit. 'Assyrian'.] n. A demon, giant. రాక్షసుడు. The Asuras were such as Rāvaṇa and Bana, who were adorers of Siva. అసురకృత్యము a horrible deed. అసురధ్రువము asura-dhruvamu n. The south pole. దక్షిణధ్రమము. అసురసంధ్య asura-sandhya n. The dusk, the evening. సాయంకాలము. (In the Vedas and in the cuneiform inscriptions, the word అసుర is used in the sense of (1) a nobleman, (2) a powerful being, (3) a god. In later Skt. literature, it is always used in an evil sense.)

(p. 337) krauñcamu kraunchamu. [Skt.] n. A kind of heron, ardea jaculator, described in Hindu literature as a type of connubial constancy. Name of a certain mountain and island.
గ్రామము
(p. 398) grāmamu grāmamu. [Skt.] n. A village. ఊరు. A scale in music. షడ్జాదిస్వరము. గ్రామత్రయము the three tones, treble, tenor and base. A crowd or multitude సమూహము. as గుణగ్రామము or శబ్దగ్రామము. గ్రామకార్యము grāma-kāryamu. n. Village affairs: worldly matters. గ్రామకంఠము grāma-kanṭhamu. n. The glebe, or pasture land appertaining to a village. గ్రామణి grāmaṇi. n. A chief: a head man. గ్రామాధిపతి. గ్రామణి adj. Chief, head, leading. ముఖ్యుడు నరగ్రామణి, the noblest of men. దుర్గ్రామణి a wicked ruler. గ్రామణ్యము grāmanyamu. n. The rule or headship of a town. Imperiousness, violence, outrage. గ్రామణ్యముగా scoffingly. గ్రామదేవత grāma-dēvata. n. A village god or goddess. These are the original Dravidian deities. Among them the male deities are chiefly these: పోతురాజు, కాట్రేడు, అంకాళు, గంగయ, చెన్నడు and మైలారు. The principal village goddesses are పెద్దమ్మ, కాట్రేణి, అంకాళమ్మ, ఎక్కళమ్మ, ఎల్లమ్మ, మల్లమ్మ, మామిళ్లమ్మ, మైసమ్మ or మైసూరమ్మ, (i. e. మహిషీ.) మారియమ్మ, మారెమ్మ (who probably is meant for 'Maria') యాగాతమ్మ (that is, Saint Agatha,) and సుంకలమ్మ or సుంకెళమ్మ, of whom one inflicts the cholera, another the small pox (see అమ్మవారు) another murrain, another blight. None have any beneficent powers, and they are worshipped to avert their displeasure. గ్రామసింహము grāma-simhamu. n. The lion of the village, i.e., a dog. గ్రామస్థుడు grāma-sthuḍu. n. దుః
(p. 600) duḥ duh. [Skt.] A negative prefix. Bad, evil, wicked. చెడు, చెడ్డ. In compounds it changes into దుశ్ or దుస్ according to the rules of Sandhi. Such compounds as usually occur in Telugu literature are here brought together and explained. దురంతము dur-antamu. adj. నియోగించు
(p. 656) niyōgiñcu ni-yōgīnṭsu. [Skt.] v. a. To engage in a task, send about, employ on. appoint to; to command, to order, ఆజ్ఞాపించు. నియోగ్యుడు ni-yōgyuḍu. n. One who is fit to be appointed or sent. నియోగింపదగినవాడు, నియోజ్యుడు niyōjyuḍu. n. A servant or slave. భృత్యుడు, పనివాడు, నియోగము or నియోజనము niyōgamu. n. An order, command, mandate. నియమించడము, ఆజ్ఞ. L. III. 259. నియోగి or నియ్యోగి niyōgi. n. A minister. మంత్రి. The name of a certain sect of secular Brahmins. The Niyōis and the Vyápáris are two classes of secular Brahmins. The Niyōgis are in several points different from ఆచార్యులు Á'chāris. The authors of the Telugu poems are mostly Niyōgis. Sanskrit literature being confined to the Vaidikis who are considered their superiors.
పురాణము
(p. 770) purāṇamu purāṇamu. [Skt.] adj. Old, ancient, పురాతనము. n. An ancient story, or legend, a mythological tale, a rhapsody or string of stories. The name of a class of books in Indian literature. పూర్వకథ. స్థలపురాణము local archives, a book regarding the origin of a town, &c. పౌరాణికకథ an old tale or romance. పురాణముచెప్పు to chant or read a legend to an audience. పురాణమువిను to be an auditor of a legend which is recited. పురాణభట్టుడు a mere block-head, one who recites a legend without knowing the meaning of it. పురాణించు or పురణించు purāṇinṭsu. v. n. To recite a Purāṇa, పురాణము చెప్పు. To become inveterate, chronic, or constitutional, as a disease, వర్ధిల్లు, విజృంభించు. వ్యాధి పురాణించినది the disease became chronic. పురాణ దంపతులు. purāṇa-dampatulu. n. The 'primeval pair,' a phrase for Siva and Pārvati, or Vishṇu and Lakshmi. A phrase like Adam and Eve.
ప్రవక్త
(p. 838) pravakta pra-vakta. [Skt.] n. One who talks well, an eloquent man, చక్కగా మాట్లాడువాడు. (In Telugu Christian literature), a prophet, రాగలసంగతులను తెలుపువాడు. ప్రవచనము pra-vachanamu. n. The venerated text, i.e., the Vedas. వేదము. A great or noble word, గొప్పమాట. Teaching, expounding, ప్రకృష్టవచనము. ఇప్పట్లో పాఠప్రవచనములు లేవు at present there is neither teaching nor learning. ప్రవచనీయము pra-vachanīyamụ. adj. That which is fit to be well said, చక్కగా మాటాడదగినది.
(p. 1059) r ra. [Tel. short for రమ్ము.] In addressing intimate friends or very low class persons, this is used as a suffix; thus, ఏమిర, ఎందుకుర, ఏమిరా, ఎందుకురా. In ancient Telugu, when it was under influence of the Kanarese literature the letter ఱ was used, but it is now obsolete. It is called శకటరేఫము, అలఘురేఫము or బండి 'ర' while the ర is called మంచి 'ర' or లఘురేఫము. The ర is never used in Sanskrit words. It is said to have been pronounced hard, and to have had the force of two ర sounds; so that in ఱ్ఱ there are supposed to be four R sounds included, which is absurd on the face of it. According to the ancient spelling తరచు means to churn, తఱుచు thick. పెర is a bee hive, పెర other, strange.పెరుగు is curd, పెరుగు to curd, పెఱుగు to grow. వేరు means a root, వేఱు different. మరుగు means to hide, మఱుగు too boil. In modern Telugu the ఱ is unknown and thus both sets of words are splet alike. The ancient poets distinguished these sounds, never allowing ర to rhyme with ఱ. Modern Telugu poets such as the translator of the Bhagavata disregard this distinction. In recent years attempts have been made to revive the use of this obsolete letter, but without success.
శృంగారము
(p. 1257) śṛṅgāramu ṣṛingāramu. [Skt.] adj. Beautiful, handsome. అందమైన. n. Ornament, decoration, beauty. Passion, love. అలంకారము. అందము. లోనవికారము బైట శృంగారము inside foul, outside fair. శృంగారభావము love, amorousness. శృంగారకావ్యము ṣṛingāra-kāvyamu. n. Polite literature, a romance or novel in verse. శృంగారపురుషుడు or శృంగారి ṣṛingāra-purushuḍu. n. A gallant, beau, a handsome man. శృంగారవతి ṣṛingāra-vati. n. A fine or beautiful lady, a belle. శృంగారవనము ṣṛingāra-vanamu. n. A park, a pleasure garden. ఉద్యానవనము. 0శృంగారించు ṣṛingārinṭsu. v. a. To adorn, decorate. అలంకరించు. ఆ సంగతిని కొంచెము శృంగారించి చెప్పినాడు he told the story with some decorations or improvements.
