(p. 657) nir nir. A Sanskrit particle prefixed in words of that language and implying negation, privation, &c. This prefix varies in accordance with the rules of Sanskrit sandhi. In some cases it becomes నిష్ as నిష్ఫలమైన fruitless. When attached to a word which begins with S, it becomes నిస్, as నిస్సందేహముగా doubtlessly. When it is followed by a vowel, it remains unaltered as నిరాటంకముగా unchecked. The compounds in which this prefix is used are here put together. నిరంకుశము nir-ankuṣamu. adj. (p. 1263) śrēyamu or శ్రేయస్సు ṣrēyamu. [Skt.] n. Virtue, moral merit, good fortune, prosperity, happiness, beatitude, ధర్మము, పుణ్యము, కళ్యాణము, మంగళము, శుభము, మోక్షము. శ్రేయస్కరము or శ్రేయోవంతము ṣrēyas-karamu. adj. Prosperous, fortunate, beneficial, producing happiness, లక్ష్మీకరమైన.

'సమయపడి వనవాసంబు చేయవచ్చితిమి.' భార. అర. సమయోచితము samay-ōchitamu. adj. Seasonable, suitable to the occasion, appropriate, కాలోచితమైన. సమయోచితమైన మాట a word in season, an appropriate word.

That which is good, benefit, welfare. మంచిది, మేలు. హితముగా hitamu-gā. adv. Agreeably, in a friendly manner, అనుకూలముగా, ప్రియముగా, హితవాది hita-vādi. n.
