(p. 19) akka akka. [Tel. a Dravidian word borrowed by Sanskrit, where it is used in the sense of mother. cf. Lat. acca] n. An elder sister. అక్కచెల్లెళ్లు elder and younger sisters. పెద్దక్క the eldest sister. Any woman older than oneself is usually styled అక్క elder sister, or అమ్మ mother, madam: and any man older than onself is usually styled అస్న elder brother, or, అయ్య father, sir. పంటలక్క a cook or kitchen maid. See అక్కలవాడ.

(p. 41) atta atta. [Tel. borrowed by Skt. in dramas.] n. Father's sister, mother-in-law, maternal uncle's wife. అత్తమామూలు mother-in-law and father-in-law.

(p. 98) avva avva. [Tel.] n. A grandmother, a mother: any old or respectable woman. జననీజనకులతల్లి, తల్లి, పూజ్యురాలు. అవ్వపండు avva-paṇḍu. n. A certain scarlet fruit called in Tamil చౌరిప్పమ్ శౌ?Eరిపండు శౌరిపండు. It is boiled in oil to anoint the head. అవ్వరో interj. O madam!

(p. 239) kadruva kadruva. [Skt.] n. The name of the mythological mother of serpents.

(p. 242) kanna kanna. [Tel.] adj. (Contracted from కనిన who begot). 'By birth' (a parent) as distinguished from పెంపుడు 'by adoption.' కన్నతండ్రి one's own father or natural father; కన్నతల్లి one's own mother; కన్నబిడ్డ a child by birth, not by adoption. కన్న (i.e., కనిన seen, perceived.) adj. Any, miscellaneous, indiscriminately taken, vile. కన్నకూళ్లు any food that one could get. కన్నమాటలు vile language. కన్నవాడు anybody, without selection. కన్నవారు strangers, anybody. కన్నచోట anywhere. In Paraj. v. 46. కన్నదిగతిగా in any way or direction, headlong. కాకి కన్నది తింటుంది the crow eats trash.

(p. 252) karkaramu or కర్కటకము karkaṭamu. [Skt.] n. A crab. ఎండ్రి. The sign Cancer. కర్కటిగర్భమువలె like the crab's fœtus. For, like the young of the viper the crabs are supposed to be born by rending and killing the mother.

(p. 289) kunti kunti. [Skt.] n. The name of the mother of the Pānḍavas. పాండురాజు పెండ్లాము.

(p. 291) kuṭumbamu kuṭumbamu. [Skt.] n. A family. A household. Race. నేను చాలా కుటుంబము గలవాడను గనుక as I am a man of large family. కుటుంబి or కుటుంబికుడు kuṭumbi. n. A householder, the head of a family. కుటుంబిని kuṭumbini. n. The mother of a family.

A shelter, or covering, a screen, or shade, a nook, any thing concealing another or preventing its being seen. మరుగు. తల్లిచాటున in her mother's charge. నేను చాటుగా నిలిస్తిని I stood behind. చాటుచేయు to use as a screen. చెట్టుచాటున behind the tree. చాటుననుండే hidden, screened, unknown. పెట్టె చాటున దొరికినది I found it behind the box. ఆ కొండ చాటు అయినది that hill intercepts the view. చాటుగానుంచు to keep hidden. చాటు. v. a. To proclaim, publish. To warn, threaten, declare. To confess, betray, evince ప్రసిద్ధిచేయు, విశదపరుచు. చాటించు ṭsāṭinṭsu. v. a. To proclaim, to publish, advertise, notify, make known, declare, warn, threaten, foretell, denounce. చాటింపు ṭsāṭimpu. n. Proclamation, advertisement. చాటుపడు ṭsāṭu-paḍu. v. n. To be hidden from view మరుగుపడు. చాటున ṭsāṭuva. n. Proclamation చాటించుట. Comparison, పోలిక, దృష్టాంతము. చాటుమాటుమనిషి a suspicious character, a skulker.

(p. 448) cālu ṭsālu. [Tel.] v. n. To suffice, to be enough or sufficient. కావలసినంత అగు, సమృద్ధమగు. To be able. To bear, tolerate, endure ఓపు. చాలును (3rd pers. aor.) it is enough. చాలదు. neg. aor.) it is not enough. అనజాలరు they cannot say. బుద్ధిచాలదు నీకు (Dasav. iv. 195.) you have not sense enough. చాలీచాలకయిది జరిగించినాడు he committed this out of dire necessity. చాలీచాలవు these are barely enough. ఈడుచాలిన grown, of full age. ఈడుచాలని under age, immature. జ్ఞాపకముచాలదు I do not sufficiently remember it. నా గ్రహచారము చాలక యిట్లు సంభవించెను through my luck not being good enough it so happened. వాపులుచాలు enough of these words about relationship. 'వాలి నేనును సురల్ పడినొకవంక జాలితి మొకవంక జాలి రసురులు.' T. iii. 117. On our side we were mighty, and so were our foes. చాలు n. Sufficiency, abundance సమృద్ధి.
