(p. 41) atta atta. [Tel. borrowed by Skt. in dramas.] n. Father's sister, mother-in-law, maternal uncle's wife. అత్తమామూలు mother-in-law and father-in-law.

(p. 849) prīti prīti. [Skt.] n. Joy, pleasure, delight, happiness, love, affection, regard. సంతోషము, స్నేహము. The name of the wife of Manmadha, మన్మధునిభార్య. దేవునికి ప్రీతిగా చేసిరి they did it in honour of the god, for the purpose of conciliating the god. ముఖప్రీతిమాటలు feigned or flattering words. ఆచార్యులవారికి ప్రీతిగా ఈ గ్రామము నిచ్చినారు they bestowed this village on him as a compliment. తల్లికి ప్రీతిగా ఈ దానము చేసినాడు he gave this in honour of his mother. శనిప్రీతిచేసినాడు he did this to avert the evil influence of Saturn. విష్ణుప్రీతిభూమి lands consecrated to Vishṇu. ప్రీతిదత్తము prīti-dattamu. n. A dowry given to a bride by her father-in-law or mother-in-law. ప్రీతుడు prītuḍu. n. One who is pleased or satisfied, ప్రీతినొందినవాడు.

(p. 971) māta māta. [Skt.] n. Mother, తల్లి. An epithet of Pārvati or Lakshmi, పార్వతీదేవి. లక్ష్మీదేవి. పంచమాతలు five ladies who are to be looked upon with as much respect as one's own mother, viz. (1.) the king's wife, రాజభార్య; (2) an elder brother's wife, అన్నభార్య; (3) a teacher's wife, గురుభార్య; (4) a mother-in-law, అత్త; (5) one's own mother; కన్నతల్లి. మాతాపితలు mātā-pitalu. n. Father and mother, parents, తల్లిదండ్రులు. మాతామహి mātāmahi. n. A maternal grandmother. తల్లి యొక్క తల్లి. మాతామహుడు mātāmahuḍu. n. A maternal grandfather. తల్లి యొక్క తండ్రి. మాతుశ్రీ mātu-ṣri. adj. 'Dear' a phrase used regarding elder female relations, as మాతుశ్రీ మా తల్లిగారు my dear mother. మాతృక mātṛika. n. A mother, తల్లి. The original writing from which a copy (పుత్రిక) is made. అసలు గ్రంధము.

(p. 1021) meṭṭu meṭṭu. [Tel.] v. a. &n. To step, walk, tread. అడుగుపెట్టు, నడుచు, త్రొక్కు. 'మెల్ల మెల్లన మెట్టుచుదొలగి అల్లనల్లనతలుపులండకు జేరి.' BD iv. 1523. To tread on, to trample on. To kick, to thrust with the foot. To wear, as sandals. తొక్కు, కాలితోతన్ను, పాదుకలు వేసికొను. 'ఏయేతీర్థములందు గ్రుంకిడితి రేయేద్వీపముల్ మెట్టినారు.' Swa. i. 26. 'నీళ్లమునుగనేల జలధిమెట్టగనేల మొనసివేల్పులకును మ్రొక్కనేల.' Vēma. iii. 259. n. Treading, త్రొక్కుట. A step of a ladder or stair, సోపానము. A step, grade, degree, rank. A mount a hill, తిప్ప, కొండ. To lead to make one walk, to cause to be trampled. To suggest, to stir the mind. నడిపించు, తొక్కించు. To kill, చంపు. 'మింటన్ మ్రోసినమ్రోత తాలిమిని లో మెట్టింపమున్నీపునా యింటన్ బుట్టెదవంచుకంసుడుతొడిన్ హింసించె నీయన్నలన్.' B. X. 102. మెట్టిక meṭṭika. n. A step , మెట్టు, సోపానము. See also మెటిక. మెట్టిమల్లాడు meṭṭi-mall-āḍu. v. a. To trample down or all over, to ruin, హతముచేయు, ధ్వంసముచేయు. 'కర్మంబుల కట్టడలకులోనుగాక మాయలనుమెట్టి మల్లాడి నిర్మలలింగసేవ నెట్టిభక్తిఘటించు.' L. xvi. 229. మెట్టుకు meṭṭu-ku. adv. On the whole, altogether. In fact, in all, at the most, at least, at any rate. In short, at the best or worst, once for all, finally, at last, in the end, after all, withal, yet still. తుదకు. మెట్టుకుపోయినాడు of course he is gone. మెట్టిల్లు (మెట్టిన + ఇల్లు) the mother-in-law's house, ఆడుదాని అత్తగారిల్లు. మెట్టుబ్రాలు sacred rice, తలబ్రాలు.

(p. 1112) lō lō. [Tel.] prep. In, within, inside of, amongst, among, of. దారిలో on the road. ఇంటిలో or ఇంట్లో in the house. వచ్చినంతలో on his coming. అంతలో or ఇంతలో in the meantime. The word must be translated to suit the verb with which it is used. Thus, బిళ్లను మెడలో వేసుకొన్నాడు he wore the badge over his shoulder. తలలో వాగా చుట్టుకొన్నాడు he rolled the turban round his head. అత్తలోనుండి విభాగము కాలేదు she is not separated from her mother-in-law's family. ఇంతరాత్రిలో so late at night. తమలోతాము మాటాడుకోలేదు they did not speak to each other. వేలిలోనుండే ఉంగరము the ring on his finger. బిడ్డ నాపక్కలో పండుకొని ఉండినది the child lay down at my side. మాలో అందరు all of us. వాడు అందరిలో మంచివాడు he is the best of them all. (See లోను and లోని.) పనిలో మాట్లాడుట to talk during work, or while at work. చెట్టులో బంకకారుతున్నది gum flows from the tree. అతడు నాచేతిలో కోసినాడు he inflicted a wound on my hand. లో lō. adj. Inner, internal, inside. Inferior, or subordinate. లోగది an inner room. లోకావు a sub-renter or under farmer. లోచెయ్యి the inner hand, i.e., the palm of the hand. లోగొను to take inside, to receive, to contain within itself, లోపల నడచుకొను. లోమనుష్యుడు a reserved or self-contained man. లోగా lō-gā. adv. Within, inside, meanwhile, in the course of, లోపల. పదిదినములకులోగా within ten days. ఈలోగా meantime. ఇది వానికి చేరే లోగా before this reaches him. యాభైయేండ్లకులోగా before he was fifty years old.

(p. 1172) viḍucu or విడ్చు viḍuṭsu. [Tel.] v. n. &a. To relinquish, leave, quit, abandon, give up, loosen, slacken, untie, undo, To cease, to terminate. చాలించుకొను, మానుకొను, వదలుకొను. ఆ చెట్టు నాలుగు కొమ్మలు విడిచినది that tree has produced four branches. వానవిడిచెను the rain is over. గ్రహణము విడిచినది the eclipse is now over. చీడవిడిచినది the plague has ceased. అంటువిడిచినది the impurity has passed away. దయ్యమువిడిచినది the demon has quitted him or let him go. క్రోధమునువిడిచినాడు he has laid aside his wrath. చేనిలో ఆవును మేయవిడిచినాడు he let the cow go to graze on the crop. ఆహారమునువిడిచెను he gave up eating. ప్రాణమునువిడిచెను he gave up eating. ప్రాణమునువిడిచెను he gave up the ghost. ఆమె కన్నీళ్లువిడిచెను she shed tears. బాణమువిడుచు to discharge a rocket. ఆ కోటును విడిచిపోయిరి they quitted the fort. తర్పణమువిడుచు to perform a certaian rite. పట్టినపట్టు విడువడు he will never let go his hold.కుమార్తెను అత్తవారియింట విడిచినాడు he left his daughter at the house of her mother-in-law. దినమువిడిచి దినము on alternate days, every other day. బట్టలువిడుచు to strip. ఊపిరివిడుచు to breathe. వారిని చెయ్యి విడిచినాడు he abandoned them. 'కొంగుకాసువిడిచిగొబ్బుననీరాదు.' Vema. 171. విడిచిపెట్టు viḍichi-peṭṭu. v. a. To relinquish, leave, quit, abandon, give up. To loosen, untie, undo, చాలించుకొను, వదలు. విడిపించు viḍipinṭsu. v. a. To loose, let go, release. విడిచిపెట్టు, వదలు, పోనిచ్చు. విడిపించుకొను viḍipinṭsu-konu. v. n. To escape, get free, break loose, విడివడు, వదలించుకొను. విడుత viḍuta. n. A time, తడవ. ఒకవిడుత once. రెండువిడుతలు twice. విడుదల, విడుపు, విడ్పు or విడుమర viḍu-dala. n. Release, liberation, setting at liberty, freeing, కడతేరడము, నివృత్తి, విమోచనము. విడుదలసన్నదు a deed of surrender or relinquishment. విడుపు also means Almsgiving, దానము. విడుపరి viḍup-ari. n. One who abandons a friend, &c. పరిత్యాగశీలుడు. A liberal man, త్యాగశీలుడు. విడువడు viḍu-vaḍu. (విడుపు+పడు.) v. n. To separate, to be severed. వీడియెడబాయు.

(p. 1264) śvaśuruḍu ṣvaṣuruḍu. [Skt.] n. A father-in-law. పడుచును ఇచ్చినమామ, భార్యకుతండ్రి. A. v. 102. శంకరశ్వశురశైలము an epithet of the Himalaya, as 'father-in-law to Siva.' శ్వత్రువు ṣvaṣruvu. n. A mother-in-law. పడుచును ఇచ్చిన అత్తగారు, భార్యకుతల్లి.
