(p. 3) aṅkitamu ankitamu. [Skt.] a. Marked, spotted. Counted, numbered. అంకితము n. A dedication. కృతి. ఆ గ్రంథమును రాజునకు అంకితము చేసినాడు he dedicated that book to the king.

(p. 26) agramu agramu. [Skt.] n. End, point, tip, front, fore-part, top, peak, summit. adj. First, preliminary, chief, principal. అగ్రజ్యా (in astron.) the sine of the amplitude. అగ్రభాగము (astron.) degree of amplitude. అగ్రసారము a compendious method of counting immense numbers. అగ్రాంశువు the end of a ray of light, the focal point. జిహ్వాగ్రము the tip of the tongue. Similarly నాసికాగ్రము, నఖాగ్రము, &c. అగ్రగణ్యము adj. Estimable, conspicuous. శ్రేష్ఠమైన, అగ్రగణ్యుడు n. A chief, a leader. మొదట నెంచదగినవాడు అగ్రజంఘము the forepart of the thigh. అగ్రజన్ముడు n. A brahmin. Elder brother. అగ్రజుడు n. An elder brother. అన్న. అగ్రణి n. A leader.

(p. 76) ammanalu or అమ్మనములు ammanalu. [Tel.] n. A game wherein a number of balls are thrown into the air, one being caught in the hand descending whilst others are rising: అణంగులు గుండ్లను ఎగరవేసి ఆడే ఆట. 'గుజగుజరేకులు గుజ్జనగూళ్లను బొమ్మలపెండ్లిండ్లు నమ్మములు.' N. ix. 101.

(p. 101) asamamu a-samamu. [Skt.] adj. Unequal, unequal either in surface or number, uneven, unrivalled: సమముకాని, అసదృశమైన, విషయమైన. అసమనేత్రుడు asamanētruḍu n. An epithet of Siva, the god who has an extra eye. శివుడు. అసమశరుడు asama-ṣaruḍu n. An epithet of Cupid. మన్మథుడు.

(p. 119) āyamu āyamu. [Tel. and Skt.] n. A vital part of the body. జీవస్థానము particulars, details, Receipt, gain, profit. వచ్చుబడి, ఆదాయము. Toll, tax customs, income. సుంకము. Rate, standard, fixed number. ఆయకట్టు āya-kaṭṭu. ఆయము+కట్టు.] ఆయము, లేక, ఆదాయము యొక్క నిర్ణయము, ప్రమాణము. A yard, an enclosure. Quantity, extent of land, an account specifying the varieties of kinds of soil in a certain field. ఆ యింటి ఆయకట్టుకులోగా within the compound of the house. ఆయమునకు వెచ్చమధికమైన if the expense is greater than the income. ఆయంపాటిగాయం or ఆయంపట్టుగాయం a mortal wound. ఆయముల సోకన్ to the quick.

(p. 126) āḷvāru āḷvāru. [Drav.] n. A Vaishnava name for a saint. The Alwars or saints were twelve in number and are considerd to have been incarnations of the attendants, arms, or insignia of Vishnu: each of them wrote a portion of the 'Dravida Prabandham,' or 'Tamil Veda' help in greater veneration that the original Sanskrit Veda, of which it is, in fact, an ancient Tamil translation (Ellis.) The పరమయోగివిలాసము is a history of these personages. A hawk is sometimes called గరుడాళ్వారు.

(p. 131) iṇṭa inṭa. [Tel. from ఇల్లు (q. v.) reckoning or counting being made by means of squares.] affix. By, at the rate of. నాలుగింట గుణించుట to reckon or multiply by four. ఇంటికి inṭi-ki. At the rate of. అయిదింటికి at five; by fives, five at once. ఒకటింటికి పదిరూకలు ఇస్తిని I gave ten rupees for each. గజమొకటింటికి ఎంత how much is it per yard. నలుభైయింటికి వచ్చిరి about forty men came. నూరింటికి one hundred in number.

(p. 137) inni inni. [Tel. from ఇంత] neuter adj. So many, thus many. ఒకయిన్ని a very few ఇన్నిటికి for all this. ఇన్నో innō. adj. Of such and such a number.

(p. 194) ēkavacanamu ēka-vachanamu. [Skt.] n. The singular number.

(p. 200) ērāḷamu ērāḷamu. [Tel another form of హేరాళము] adj. Much, numberless. అధికము, అసంఖ్యము.

(p. 209) oḍḍu oḍḍu. [Tel.] n. A bank or shore. దరి. The original number; whether multiplicand or dividend. The disposition of an army in a battle field వ్యూహము. A stake in gambling. పందెము. ఒడ్డిమి. An attempt పూనిక. An obstacle. అడ్డపాటు. ఒడ్డువేసికొని యుండు. to be in wait or ambush. ఒడ్డు విరిగి దాని మీద పడ్డారు they fell upon him tooth and nail. ఒడ్డుచూపు to place one's troops. నీ ఒడ్డు విరుగుగాక may the greatness perish. ఒడ్డు or ఒడ్డైన oḍdu. adj. Large, great, stout, big. ఒడ్డుగుండ్లు large balls, boulders, or, fragments of rocks hurled from a hill. ఒడ్డోలగము oḍḍ-ōlagamu. (ఒడ్డు+ఓలగము) n. A great assembly. ఒడ్డుమెరక high and low, ups and downs: unevenness.

(p. 216) ō ō. [Tel.] Added to cardinal numbers it forms ordinals మూడు three; మూడో third; this is contracted for మూడవ.

(p. 218) ōmanakāyalu ōmana-kāyalu. [Tel.] n. Pieces such as tamarind seeds, &c., used in a game called ఓమనగుంటలాట. ఓమనగుంటలు ōmana-guṇṭalu. n. A kind of game అచ్చనగండ్లు ఓమనపీట a small table which is hollowed out in a number of places, to be used in this game.

(p. 217) ōza ōza. [Tel.] n. Order క్రమము. Way, manner విధము. Nature స్వభావము. A command ఆజ్ఞ. Vigor, zeal, joy ఉత్సాహము, ఎచ్చరిక. Fear భయము. Thought, idea, intent. Counsel, wisdom, good sense యోచన. Virāṭa. 93. Like a lion bursting forth in rage. 'ఓ౛గాదిట్లాడనోనీకు' L. vii. 7. 'ఒడలి గుణమువేర యో౛వేర' Vēmana. ఓ౛పడు ōza-paḍu. v. i. A name given to a number of small birds of the warbler family (sylviidae) Blyth's Reed-Warbler, Acrocephalus dumetorum. ఎర్రకంపజిట్ట the paddy-field Warbler (Jerd) or the Paddy field Reed-Warbler, Acrocephalus agricola. పెద్దనల్లకంపజిట్ట the Eastern Orphean Warbler, Sylvia Jerdoni. చిన్న నల్లకంపజిట్ట The Indian Lesser White-throated Warbler, Sylvia affinis. అడవికంటజిట్ట or అడవికంపనల్లంచి The Indian Bush-chat, Pratincola maura.
