(p. 6) aṅgili angili. [Tel.] n. The palate of the mouth. (Gen. అంగిటి. Ablative అంగిట.) అంగిటిలో వేసికొన్నాడు he swallowed it up. అంగిటిముల్లు [Tel.] n. The quinsy, inflammation of the trachea: a sore palate.

(p. 1396) aṅgiliguṇṭa angili-gunṭa. [Tel.] n. The pit of the mouth or palate.

(p. 487) ñ The nasal attached to the palatal letters. It has something like the sound of N in the French words Ange, Melange. W.

(p. 491) ḍ ḍa. The letter D, sounded as a palatal. D sometimes changes into ణ Na, thus: అడగు, అణగు; పడతి, పణతి. In a few words the hard and soft D are used as pleasure: as దాగు or డాగు. Vide Appa C. bk. ii. rule 168. In the colloquial dialect ండ may become ంణ, thus: దండము and అడంగులు are written దంణము or దణ్నము and ఆణంగులు.

(p. 496) ḍh The letter dh as in hard-hap, pronounced as a palatal.

(p. 497) ṇ ṇa. The letter N sounded as a palatal. No Telugu word begins with this letter. In some words డ changes into ణ. Elsewhere ణ Ṇ and ళ Ḷ are accounted the same: thus మళిగె or మణిగె. Sometimes ణ changes into న N as చెణకు or చెనకు.

Depending, descending, falling. వ్రేలాడడము, A necklace. హారము. లంబిక lambika. adj. n. The uvula, or soft palate. కొండనాలుక. లంబితము lambi-tamu. adj. Hanging down. వ్రేలాడుచున్న. లంబు lambu. [from Skt. లంబము.] n. Largeness, bigness. స్థాల్యము. Greatness, గొప్పతనము. 'నీలంబుజిగికాంచినీలంబువలదను.' T. iii. 71. లంబోదరుడు lamb-ōdaruḍu. n. Lit. The big bellied god, i.e., Gaṇēsa, విఘ్నేశ్వరుడు.

(p. 1110) loṭṭa loṭṭa. [Tel.] n. A smack or cluck with the tongue. Hollowness of the eyes of cheeks. Low ground, a pit, పల్లము. ఆముదపులొట్ట the dried stem of the castor oil plant. adj. Sunken, hollow. Dried up, wasted away (as an eye), అణగిగుంటగానుండే. మిట్టపండ్లునుపెనులొట్టకన్గవయును.' Jagannad. i. 54. లొట్టకన్నుజిట్ట loṭṭa-kannu-jiṭṭa. n. The bird called Prinia socialis. See జిట్ట. లొట్టపోవు loṭṭa-pōvu. v. n. To be sunken, అణగు. To be injured. వానికన్ను లొట్టపోయినది his eye is injured. చావుతప్పి కన్ను లొట్టపోయినది (proverb) he escaped death but his eye is injured. చ లొట్టవేయు lotṭa-veyu. v. n. To click or smack the tongue against the palate. దేనినైనను తిని నాలుకతో చప్పుడుచేయు. లొటతాటకత్తె loṭa-tāṭa-katte. n. A cunning wench, a deceitful woman మాయలమారి. 'వెడలిపోజూచెదో వేసాలుపన్నిలోకంబులోలేని లొటతాటకత్తె.' HD. 1901.
