(p. 108) āku āku. [Tel.] n. A leaf of any sort. A petal. పత్రము, దళము. A betel, or palmyra leaf; also the leaf on which the Hindus eat their food. విస్తరాకు An ear-ring. చెవి కమ్మ. Young rice (paddy) not yet transplanted. Any herb: young sprouts of corn. A flake as ఆకు ఉప్పు a flake of salt. Any filament. The radius or spoke of a wheel. The shutter of a blind. ఆకులతలుపు a venetian door. Also, a chit, note or short letter. చీటి; a loan bond. ఇచ్చిపుచ్చుకోలు పత్రము. This word prefixed to others generally denotes green; as ఆకుతేలు a green scorpion, and ఆకుమిడత a green cricket. ఆడంగులకంటె మగవారు ఏడాకులు ఎక్కువ చదివినారు men have read seven pages further than women; that is, men are tenfold worse than women; or, are their masters in wickedness. నీ పేరు ఆకునపోకన అంటకుండా చెప్పుతాను. I shall mention (or use) your name with great caution. ఆకు అలము āku-alamu. n. Greens, herbs, vegetables. (The word అలము here has no definite sense.) ఆకుకూరలు or కూరాకులు āku-kūralu. n. Potherbs, garden stuff. ఆకు చాటున āku-ṭsāṭana. adj. In ambush, hidden, veiled, screened. ఆకుచిరుతపులి āku-chiruta-puli. n. A small species of leopard. ఆకుచిలక āku-chilaka. n. A butterfly, or a green parrot. ఆకుజెముడు āku-jemuḍu. n. The oleander-leaved spurge. Emphorbia Neriifolia. (See జెముడు.) ఆకుటిల్లు āku-ṭillu. n. A booth or hut of leaves, an arbor of leaves. ఆకుటింట in a booth. ఆకుతీగ the vine that produces the tamala (or betel) leaf. ఆకు తోట a betel garden: a garden in which plants are reared. ఆకుపచ్చ āku-paṭṭsa. n. The colour called sap green. ఆకుపత్రి చెట్టు āku-pattri-cheṭṭu. n. The clove tree. Cassia lignea. a certain game. (H. iii. 190). āka-rarugu. n. A green caterpillar. ఆకుపోత āku-pōta. n. Transplantation of a green crop. ఆకుపోయు āku-pōyu. v. a. To transplant corn. To set the sprouts. ఆకుమడి āku-maḍi. n. A field sown, but the sprouts of which are to be transplanted. (also, called నారుమడి.) ఆకుమడుపు āku-maḍupu. n. A roll of betel leaf. A mode of measurement. ఆకు మొలకాకు The self planting herb. ఆకురాయి āku-rāyi. n. A file (i.e., ఆకు a filament రాయు to rub off.) Also the name of a bird, the cuckoo (F.B.I.) బలుపాకురాయి or ముల్లాకురాయి (from ముల్లు a thorn) a rasp. కత్తి ఆకురాయి a sharp thin file for cutting combs. కమ్మి ఆకురాయి a very small file. వట్రనాకురాయి a three sided file.

(p. 144) īti īti. [Skt.] n. Plague, post, nuisance, evil. ఈతిభాధలు the (six) plagues, viz., excessive rain అతివ్పష్టి, drought or failure of rains అనావృష్టి, rats ఎలుకలు, parrots చిలుకలు, locusts మిడతలు, neighbouring kings చేరువరాజులు.

(p. 239) kaḍupu kadupu. [Tel.] n. A herd of cattle or flock of sheep. సమూహము, మంద. ఎనుపకదుపు a herd of buffaloes. పందికదుపు a herd of swine. లేటికదుపు a herd of antelopes. గూబకదుపు a flock of owls. చిలకకదుపు a flock of parrots. తేటికదుపు a swarm of bees.

(p. 286) kīramu kīramu. [Skt.] n. A parrot. కీరవాణి kīra-vāṇi. n. A sweet voiced woman, having the note of a parrot.

(p. 402) ghōṭakamu ghōṭakamu. [Skt.] n. A horse. మన్మథఘోటకము Cupid's steed: that is, as parrot. ఘోటకబ్రహ్మచర్యము chasity perforce. ఘోటిక ghōṭika. n. A mare. ఆడగుర్రము. గోడిగ. మదనఘోటిక Cupid's steed, i.e., a female parrot.

(p. 439) cakkera ṭsakkera. [Tel.] n. Sugar. శర్కర. చక్కెరతిండి ṭsakkera-tinḍi. n. A parrot చిలుక. చక్కెరబుగడ a kind of sweet cake భక్ష్యవిశేషము. చక్కెరవిలుకాడు he who carries the sweet bow, i.e., Manmatha the god of love. మన్మథుడు.

(p. 441) caduvu ṭsaduvu. [Tel.] v. a. To read, to study. చదువు n. Learning. చదువులు studies. చదువులబడి a school. చదువులయ్య a schoolmaster. చదువుకొను ṭsaduvu-konu. v. n. To learn. నేర్చుకొను. చదువుచెప్పు ṭsaduvu-cheppu. v. To teach. నేర్పు. చదువుల పులుగు ṭsaduvula-pulugu. n. The educated bird, i.e., a parrot, Bhase. § 70. చదువులవేల్పు the god of learning బ్రహ్మ. చదువరి chaduv-ari. n. One who reads, one who can read. A student, a learned man. చదివించు ṭsadi-vinṭsu. v. a. To make one read; to get some one to read. ఆ బాబును చదివించుకొంటిని I got the letter read to me. To get proclaimed what one presents to a bride or bride-groom on the occasion of their marriage. చదివింపులు ṭsadivimpulu. n. Homage or adoration accompanied with a certain recited formula.

(p. 411) ciguru chiguru. [Tel.] n. A sprout, or shoot. The gums around the teeth. The quick or tender red part of the flesh under the nail. adj. Young, budding, tender, delicate. లేత. చిగురుబోడి a girl fair and fresh as a young bud. చిగిరించు, చిగురుకొను, చిగురుచు or చిగుర్చు chigir-inṭsu v. n. To sprout out or to bud. ఎర్రనగు, పల్లవించు. చిగిరింతగడ్డి chigirinta-gaḍḍi. n. Bur grass. చిగురాకు chigur-āku. n. A budding leaf. చిగురాకు దిండి a parrot. చిగురాకువిలుకాడు he who carries a bow of budding leaves, an epithet of మన్మథుడు. చిగురొత్తు chigurottu. v. n. To bud. చిత్తముచిగురొత్త with a melting heart. To become red అనురక్తిమగు.

(p. 420) cilaka or చిలుక chilaka. n. [Tel.] n. A parrot. ముద్దులచిలక my darling! my pet! చిలకపలుకులు Sweet accents. తెల్లచిలక a cockatoo. పంచరంగుచిలక the maccaw. మైనాచిలక the maina. పుట్టలచిలక or అడివిచిలక the Sirkeer Cuckoo. Jerdon. No. 230. రామచిలక. The Rose-ringed Paroquet, Palaeornis torquatus (so called because taught to reiterate the name of Rāma.) అకుచిలక the Western Blossom-headed Paroquet, Palacornis cyanōecphalus. The name is given to some insects, as a moth, thus, ఆకుచిలక, వడ్లచిలక a moth. గడ్డిచిలక, సీతాకోకచిలక a butterfly. A padlock. The bolt or hasp of a door, because these originally had parrot's heads on them. చిలుకల కొలికి a bright-eyed girl or woman. చక్కని స్త్రీ. చిలకకూర or చిలకతోటకూర chilaka-kūra. n. A kind of pot-herb, Amarantus fasciatus. (Watts.) చిలక, చిలకట or చిలుకడ chilaka. n. A saddle buckle: a ring at the end of the rope used as a girth of the bullock saddle through which the other end is passed to fasten the saddle. కొలికిముడి. చిలకడతాడు chilakada-tāḍu. n. A girth. ఎద్దుమీదికందళము, గంతబిగించేతాడు. చిలకకొయ్య or చిలుకకొయ్య chilaka-koyya. n. A wooden pin fixed in the wall, on which articles are suspended. చిలగడ chilagaḍa. (చిలుక+గడ.) n. The cord that fastens a dagger, to prevent its falling out of the sheath. చిలకతాళము chilaka-tāḷamu. n. A padlock. చిలకతాళి or చిలుకతాళి chilaka-tāḷi. n. A gold buckle in the form of a pair of parrots. చిలుకదుదుడి chilaka-duduḍi. n. The name of a certain tree. చిలకపచ్చ chilaka-paṭsṭsa. n. Bright green, parrot green. చిలకమొక్క or చిలకముక్కు chilaka-mokka. n. (lit. Parrot's bill.) A plant called crotolaria. శుకాననము, శుకనాస. Heyne, 130. The purple red and white scentless flower called Balsam. చిలకరౌతు chilaka-rautu. n. Lit: He whose steed is the parrot: an epithet of మన్మథ the god of love. చిలుక కోణము chiluka-kōṃamu. n. The best sort is called చిరువేరుతొగరు; the next sort is మారుబేరము తొగరు; and the worst, మడ్డితొగరు.) A certain fragrant flower. adj. Red. ఎర్రని. తొగరుమల్లి togaru-malli n. A sort of crystal. తొగరు ముక్కుపులుగు the scarlet beaked bird, i.e., a parrot. తొగరుచెట్టు togaru-cheṭṭu. n. A tree from which a red dye is made.
