(p. 32) aṭṭu or అట్టుగా aṭṭu. [Tel.] adv. (A particle) So that, as, according to. అతడు వచ్చేటట్టు వ్రాయుము write a letter so that he may come. మీరు చెప్పినట్టుగా చేస్తిని I did as you bid me. ఆయన చెప్పినట్టు according to his order. వాడు ఇంకా అవతలకు పోవునట్టు అగుపడ్డాడు he seemed as though he would go further. నేను చెప్పినట్టు చేసినాడు he did as I said. వారు సాగిపోయినట్టుగా చెప్పెను he said that they had passed on. అట్టు గాక or అట్లాకాక aṭṭugāka. adv. Without being so. అట్టుల aṭṭula. adv. As soon as, soon after. వెంటనే. 'చెట్టు దిగి వచ్చినట్టుల.' H. ii. 47. Just as. ఆప్రకారము. అట్టే (for అట్లాగే) aṭṭē. [Tel.] adv. Thus. So. In the same manner, as it was. అట్టే ఉండనీ leave it as it is. నొప్పి అట్టే ఉన్నది the pain is in the same state. అట్టే పోయినాడు he went off straightway. అట్టే మాట్లాడుతూ ఉండినాడు he was talking straight on. ఆ గుర్రములట్టే ఉన్నవి the horses are as they were: they are untouched.

(p. 98) avyayamu a-vyayamu. [Skt.] adj. Imperishable, immutable, eternal. నాశరహితమైన, నిత్యమైన n. An indeclinable word, a particle. విభక్తివచనాదులు లేని శబ్దము. అవ్యయుడు a-vyayuḍu. n. He who is imperishable, i.e., God. నాశరహితుడు, నిత్యుడు, దేవుడు.

(p. 136) iti iti. [Skt.] A particle meaning 'This.' It shows like the Telugu 'అని' that the preceding words are a quotation, statement or reflection, and takes the place of inverted commas in English. ఇత్యాది ityādi. [ఇతి+ఆది] And so forth, etcetera. ఇత్యాదులైన పుస్తకములు = and other books. ఇత్యాదికములైన = and the like.

(p. 142) isumu isumu. [Tel.] n. Sand. ఇడుక. ఇసులు or ఇసుమంత isulu. adv. A very little, an atom, a particle.

(p. 163) upasarga upa-sarga. [Skt.] n. A grammatical particle, a prefix or preposition. ఉపసర్గము upa-sargamu. n. A portent such as an eclipse, &c. ఉత్పాతము. 'ఉపసర్గాధిక హీన వృష్టి పటువాయువ్యాజ నానాసరీసృప దుర్భిక్ష జలాగ్ని దుష్టవిమ దాక్షేపాది దోషంబులందు.' V. P. vi. 349.

(p. 236) kaṇamu kaṇamu. [Skt.] n. A particle or atom. ఘర్మకణము a drop of sweat. అగ్నికణము a spark of fire. ఆనందబాష్పకణములు tears of joy.

(p. 260) kallu kallu. [Tel.] A stone. Also, a wheel: (because formerly some cart wheels were made of stone.) A spoke of a carriage wheel. మంచుకల్లు a particle of dew. ఉప్పు కల్లు a crystal of salt. సీ 'భాను శీతాంశువులు బండికండ్లుజేసి' (Kōṭīswara 13.) కల్లుపడు to be stunned స్తంభించు. 'గుండె౛ల్లుమనికల్లలుపడిమునితల్లజుపద పల్లవంబులంగ్రెళ్లియిట్లంటి.' స్వా. v.

(p. 264) kasu kasu. [Tel.] A particle denoting 'A little:' Raw, young, unripe--used only in composition. కనుకందు kasu-kandu. n. A mere child, quite a child. లేతబిడ్డ. (Parrij. iii. 44.) Blackness. నలుపు. కసుగందు kasu-gandu. v. n. To fade much మిక్కిలి వాడు. n. Fading much మిక్కిలి వాడులు కనుగాయ unripe fruit. See కసి adj.

(p. 274) kāramu kāramu. [Tel.] n. Pungency, hotness of taste: sauce. Salt earth used in bleaching cloth చవుడు. Tinder: being cloth dipped in saltpetre. A caudle for infants. Caustic, lunar caustic. కారము చచ్చినపొగాకు tobacco devoid of flavour. కారము చచ్చినసున్నము lime devoid of heat. కారముగలసున్నము sharp lime. adj. Pungent, hot to the taste. A particle added to a letter in naming it. Thus కకారము the letter K. An affix denoting, making or doing, thus: ఝణఝణత్కారము resounding, making a ringing sound.

(p. 279) kāvuta or కాత or కావుతన్ kāvuta. [Tel.] imp. v. In poetry, a precative particle derived from అగు similar to వలెను or గాక. q. v. Be it so! may it be so! so be it! సంపదలీవుగాత may he bestow wealth on thee! నన్కృపనెప్పుడు ప్రచుగావ్రతన్ may he ever support me by his grace! అతని సంపద శత్రులజేరుగావుతన్ may his wealth be given to his foes!

(p. 507) tanmātramu tan-mātramu. [Skt.] n. A simple element, a subtle particle, rudiment, or atom. According to the Hindus, (sabdam) sound is the tanmatra of (akas) ether: (sparsha) touch is that of (vayu) air: (rupam) form is that of (tejas) fire or light, (gandham) smell is that of (prithvi) earth: and (rasam) taste is that of (jalam) water. These are the five rudiments of the five elements.

(p. 635) nalaka nalaka. [Tel. from నలుగు or నలుగు.] n. A particle or mote. నలుగు.

(p. 637) nalusu nalusu. [Tel. from నలుగు.] n. A mote or particle: an atom: a mote that gets into the eye, రేణువు. నలుసంత very little, as much as an atom.

(p. 657) nir nir. A Sanskrit particle prefixed in words of that language and implying negation, privation, &c. This prefix varies in accordance with the rules of Sanskrit sandhi. In some cases it becomes నిష్ as నిష్ఫలమైన fruitless. When attached to a word which begins with S, it becomes నిస్, as నిస్సందేహముగా doubtlessly. When it is followed by a vowel, it remains unaltered as నిరాటంకముగా unchecked. The compounds in which this prefix is used are here put together. నిరంకుశము nir-ankuṣamu. adj. Blameless, innocent, harmless. నిరపరాధి or నిరనరాధుడు nir-aparādhi n. One who is innocent. నిరపాయము nir-apāyamu. adj. Harmless, అపాయములేని. నిరపేక్షము ṇir-apēkshamu. adj. Undesired, అపేక్షలేని. నిరర్గళము nir-argalamu. adj. Unobstructed, unrestrained, unimpeded. Resistless. అడ్డములేని, నిరర్థకము nir-arthakamu. adj. Vain, fruitless, improfitable, unmeaning. ప్రయోజనములేని. నిరవగ్రహుడు nir-avagrahuḍu. n. One who is unimpeded, independent. అడ్డపాటులేనివాడు, స్వతంత్రుడు. నిరవద్యము nir-avadyamu. adj.
