(p. 9) aṇḍa anḍa [Tel.] n. Nearness; assistance, protection, patronage. ఆసరా, ఆశ్రయము. అండగోడ a buttress, a sloping wall, built to support another. ఆయన అండ చేరి ఉన్నాను I am under his protection. ఆయనను అండచేసికొనియున్నాను I look upon him as my supporter, I hold to him.

(p. 70) abhimānamu abhi-mānamu. [Skt.] n. Pride, self-esteem, haughtiness Patronage, protection. Affection, regard, care, love, favour. గర్వము, సంరక్షణ, విశ్వాసము, దేశాభిమానము love of one's own country, patriotism. వాడు దేహాభిమానము కలవాడు he pays great attention to his own ease. he is luxurious. అభిమానపుత్రుడు one who passes for one's son, or is looked upon as a son, or, supposed to be his child. అభిమానపుత్రత్వము an understood or attribute sonship. తమ అభిమానము కావలసినది I beg your patronage. నా యందు నిండా అభిమానముగా జరిగించినాడు he has treated me honourably. ఒకని మీద అభిమానము ఉంచు to be partial to a person. అభిమానము లేనివాడు one without affection; unkind అభిమాని n. He who loves. విశ్వాసము గలవాడు. మతాభిమాని a bigot. కులాభిమాని one who stands up for his caste. దేశాభిమాని the advocate for his country, he who loves his country, a patriot. అభిమానించు v. a. To honor, favour, protect, patronise, regard with kindness. గొప్ప చేయు, గౌరవించు.

(p. 128) āśrayamu āṣrayamu. [Skt.] n. Support, asylum. refuge, retreat, place of safety, protection, patronage, countenance. అండ, బలవంతు నాశ్రయించుట ఇల్లు. ఆశ్రయాసుడు āṣray-āṣuḍu. n. The god of fire, because he eats or destroys one's abode. ఆశ్రయించు āṣray-inṭsu. n. To take refuge, to depend upon or have recourse to, to court, to follow. అనుసరించు, అండగొను. ఈ ప్రతిభేదమును ఆశ్రయించినాడు he adopted this reading. ఆశ్రితము āṣritamu. adj. (p. 197) eḍugaḍa or ఏడ్గడ ēḍugaḍa. [Tel. ఏడు+కడ (lit.) the place where your ఏడుపు complaint is listened to or కడ means end. So ఏడుకడ means the end of sorrow, that is, refuge.] n. Quarter, patronage, refuge. రక్షకము. Protector, patron. రక్షకుడు, దిక్కు. 'మన్మైప్రేరితకోటికేడుగడ.'

(p. 591) dikku dikku. [Skt.] n. A quarter, part, side, direction. దిశ. An airt or point of the compass. The ten directions named in Hindu books are the four points. N. E. S. W. and the intermediate four: N.-E. (ఈశాన్యమూల) S.-E. (ఆగ్నేయమూల) S.-W. (నైరృతిమూల,) N.-W. (వాయవ్యమూల) to which are added the Zenith and Nadir. దిక్కులుమ్రోయగా while the heavens resounded. One of the eight elephants (గజ) the guard the cardinal points (దిక్కులు) of the world. (p. 657) nir nir. A Sanskrit particle prefixed in words of that language and implying negation, privation, &c. This prefix varies in accordance with the rules of Sanskrit sandhi. In some cases it becomes నిష్ as నిష్ఫలమైన fruitless. When attached to a word which begins with S, it becomes నిస్, as నిస్సందేహముగా doubtlessly. When it is followed by a vowel, it remains unaltered as నిరాటంకముగా unchecked. The compounds in which this prefix is used are here put together. నిరంకుశము nir-ankuṣamu. adj. Luck, fortune. అదృష్టము. వానికి అంతే ప్రాప్తి this is all he can get. దాని ప్రాప్తి అట్లు ఉండినది such was her luck. నీకు అది ప్రాప్తిలేదు you were not fortunate enough to get it. ప్రాప్తించు prāptinṭsu. v. n. To happen or occur; to be gained, obtained, found. కలుగు, లభించు. వానికి రోగము ప్రాప్తించినది he contracted or caught a disease. ప్రాప్తుడు prāptuḍu. n. One who has attained. వారు వైకుంఠ ప్రాప్తులరి they went to Vishnu's heaven, i.e., they died. ప్రాప్యము prāpyamu. adj. Attainable, procurable, that may be got. పొందదగిన. ప్రాపకము prāpakamu. n. Protection, patronage, refuge. అవలంబము, అవష్టంభము, ఆసరా, ప్రాపకుడు prāpakuḍu. n. One who puts an object within our power or reach. ఘటకుడు. A patron, protector, guardian.

(p. 1283) saṃrakṣaṇa or సంరక్షణము sam-rakshaṇa. [Skt.] n. Sustaining, support, maintenance, nourishment, guardianship, charge patronage. పోషణ, పాలనము, కాపాడడము సంరక్షించు sam-rakshinṭsu. v. a. To support, protect, maintain, patronize, rear సంరక్షణచేయు, పోషించు, పాలించు, కాపాడు పెంచు. సంరక్షకుడు sam-rakshakuḍu. n. A protector, trustee, patron, guardian పాలకుడు, పోషకుడు.
