(p. 6) aṅgu angu. [Tel.] n. Beauty, agreeableness. అందము, ఒప్పిదము. అంగు adj. Agreeable, pleasant, handsome. అందమైన, ఒప్పిదమైన. అంగుగా angugā. adv. Agreeably. అంగుగానుండే clean limbed, well proportioned. Also helpful, useful, convenient.

(p. 17) aṃśamu amṣamu. [Skt] n. A share, part, portion, a fraction; the denominator of one; a degree of latitude or longitude (Geog.); a subject భాగము, విషయము, దేవుని యంశమున పుట్టినవాడు he who is born from a portion of the deity, he who is of divine origin; అంశపురుషుడు a fortunate man, a man of talent or parts. వర్ణనాంశము a descriptive part or passage in a poem. ఈ అంశము నాకు తెలుసును I am acquainted with this subject. ఈ అంశములో in this respect. వాడు అన్ని అంశములు తెలిసినవాడు he knows every thing. అంశచక్రము a table consulted by astrologers in casting nativities, an astrological diagram for ascertaining the degree of the sun in any sign. దశాంసము the tenth part; అంశసవరణ = reduction of fractions; అంశనీయము or అంశ్యము = that which is divisible.

(p. 100) aṣṭa ashṭa [Skt. cf. Eng. 'Eight,' Lat. Octo.] adj. Eight.--అష్టకష్టములు The eight unpleasant circumstances liable to occur in the course of life. [Viz. దేశాంతర గమనము foreign travel, భార్యావియోగము separation from one's wife. కష్టకాలములో ప్రియబంధుదర్శనము friends and relations arriving in the time of trouble, ఎంగిలితినడము eating the leavings of others, తన, శత్రువులతో స్నేహము చేయడము courting one's enemies, పరాన్నమునకు కాచియుండడము looking for food from strangers, సభలో అప్రతిష్ఠవచ్చుట being ignorant in an assembly of wise men, దరిద్రమనుభవించడము suffering poverty.] అష్టకోణి an octagon, అష్టదిక్కులు the eight points of the compass.--అష్టదిక్పాలకులు the regents of the eight points of the compass, viz. Indra of the East, Agni of the South-east, Yama of the South, Nairriti of the South-west, Varuṇa of the West, Marut of the North-west, Kubēra of the North, and Iṣana of the South-east.--అష్టదిగ్గజములు the elephants supporting the eight corners of the earth-అష్టనగములు the eight serpents supporting the eight angles or points of the world. Their names are as follow: వాసుకి, అనంతుడు, తక్షకుడు, శంఖపాలుడు, కుళికుడు, పద్ముడు, మహాపద్ముడు, కార్కోటకుడు. అష్టవదులు a certain set of songs of eight lines in length.-అష్టపాత్రములు the eight vessels used in a sacrifice.--అష్టభాగ్యములు the eight requisites to the regal state; as రాజ్యము territory, భండారము wealth, సేన్యము an army, ఏనుగులు elephants, గుర్రములు horses, ఛత్రము an umbrella, చామరము a fly fan or whisk, ఆందోళిక a palanquin.--అష్టభోగములు the eight sources of pleasure, viz., ఇల్లు house, పరుపు bed,వస్త్రము raiment, అభరణము jewels, స్త్రీలు women, పుష్పము, flowers, గంధము perfume, తాంబూలము areca nuts and betel-leaves.--అష్టమదములు eight kinds of pride, viz., అన్నమదము luxury in food, అర్థమదము pride of wealth, స్త్రీమదము pride of lust, విద్యామదము pride of learning, కులమదము, pride of rank and family, రూపమదము pride of beauty, ఉద్యోగమదము pride of station, యౌవనమదము pride of youth.-- అష్టస్వామ్యములు the eight respects in which an absolute conveyance is made, viz., విక్రయ, దాన, వినిమయ, జల, తరు, పాషాణ, విధి, నిక్షేపములు -- అష్టాంగములు See under అంగము. సాష్టాంగదండము prostration in worship. -అష్టాపదము an eight legged dragon: a spider. అష్టావధానము See under అవధానము. అష్టైశ్వర్యములు complete comfort, every blessing, also eight attributes, viz., అణిమ, మహిమ, గరిమ, లఘిమ, ప్రాప్తి, ప్రాకామ్యము, ఈశత్వము, వశిత్వము.

(p. 126) āḷvāru āḷvāru. [Drav.] n. A Vaishnava name for a saint. The Alwars or saints were twelve in number and are considerd to have been incarnations of the attendants, arms, or insignia of Vishnu: each of them wrote a portion of the 'Dravida Prabandham,' or 'Tamil Veda' help in greater veneration that the original Sanskrit Veda, of which it is, in fact, an ancient Tamil translation (Ellis.) The పరమయోగివిలాసము is a history of these personages. A hawk is sometimes called గరుడాళ్వారు.

(p. 143) īḍu īḍu. [Tel.] n. 1. Age, time of life. ప్రాయము. ఈడైన equal. రెండేండ్ల యీడుగల two years old. ఈడుచాలిన or ఈడువచ్చిన full grown, adult. ఈడుచాలని or ఈడురాని not full grown, minor. ఈడుమీరిన too old. 2. Resemblance, similarity, proportion. A match, a rival. సమానము. ఈడుపడు īḍu-paḍu. v. i. To become equal. సమానమగు. ఈడుపరచు īḍu-paraṭsu. v. a. To equalize, to compare.

(p. 164) uppattulu uppattulu. [Tel.] n. Shares, portions. బియ్యము ఉప్పత్తులు చేసినారు they shared the grain.

(p. 183) egudala egudala. [Tel.] n. The upper portion, increase. పయిభాగము, వృద్ధి.

(p. 190) erugu erugu. [Tel.] v. a. To know, be aware of, to understand. తెలిసికొను, గ్రహించు. వాడు దానిని ఎరిగి చేసినాడు he did it on purpose or intentionally, or ఎరుగక చేసిరి they did it unintentionally ఉపకారము ఎరిగినవారై being grateful, feeling one's kindness. మీరు ఎరిగియుండవలసినది I call upon you to be witness or to observe this. సత్తువయెరిగి లంకణముకట్టవలసినది let the patient be kept fasting in proportion to this strength. ఎరుగని ignorant, innocent. దేహమెరుగక being stupified, or insensible. ఎరుగవా don't you know? ఎరుగను I do not know. మేము కుడిచెయ్యి ఎడమచెయ్యి యెరుగనివారమై as we are such simple people that we do not know our right hand from our left నేను బుద్ధి యెరుగకమునుపే when I was an infant, before I knew anything. ఎరిగితెచ్చుట గాని యెరుగక కాదు I was well aware of what I was bringing: I did not bring it unknowingly. పాటు యెరుగని భాగ్యము fortune that knows no decline. ఎరుగమి erugami. n. Ignorance తెలియమి.

(p. 220) ōli ōli. [Tel.] n. A dowry, marriage portion, money paid by a bridegroom to the parents of a bride. ఉంకువ. A line, a row. వరుస. Plu. ఓలులు.

(p. 1399) kandāyamu kandāyamu. [Tel.] n. A fixed portion of tax payable at a certain time. Rent paid in money as distinguished from rent paid in kind.

(p. 236) kaṇazu or కడ౛ు kaṇazu. [Tel.] n. A portico with a tiled roof. A wasp. కందిరీగ.

(p. 277) kālu kālu. [Tel.] n. A leg, a foot, a claw, a talon. మోకాలు the knee. మిగాలు the upper surface of the foot. A pillar. నూరుకాళ్లమంటపము a portico built on 100 pillars. A quarter or fourth part. ముక్కాలు being three legs, or quarters. Bilh. ii. 154. కాళ్లకడ at the feet. కాళ్లజెర్రి a centipede. కంపకాలు a fence: lit. a fence-foot. కాలిడొంక (A. vi. 16) a foot path. కాలుత్రవ్వు to paw the ground, to be eager for fighting. M. A. v. 87. సన్నద్ధుడగు. నా కొడుకు పెండ్లాన్ని బిడ్డలను నాకాళ్లగట్టిపోయినాడు my son died and left a widow and children on my hands. మూడుకాళ్ల ముసలి (P. i. 322.) a three legged old woman, because leaning on a staff. తే 'మరుడుశైంగార వీధులేలర్పరచితనదు పేరనోవకపేటకట్టి సంప్తీతితోర ణాలనుంచిన కాలుకంబాలనంగ కలికియూరులు చెలుగు పై కాంచి మెరయ.' (p. 287) kīsara , కీసరతిత్తి or కీసా kīsara. [Tel.] n. A purse, a pocket. జేబు. The fourth part of a weight or quantity. H. iv. 194. కీసరమధ్యస్థము dishonesty in arbitration. కీసరపాలు a small portion.

(p. 317) koṇajamu or కొణజా koṇajamu. [Tel.] n. An alley, passage, gallery, balcony, a portico. ద్వారమును మాత్రము సంరక్షణచేసే యిల్లు, వాకిటికావలి యిల్లు.

(p. 318) koddi koddi. [Tel. short for కొలది.] n. A little, a trifle, something. adj. Little, small, few. Petty, trifling, slight, mean, base. కొద్ది పిచ్చివాడవుకావు you are no slight fool. కొద్దిగా in a slight degree. కొద్దిగొప్ప less or more. కొద్దిదినాలకు in a few days, in a short time. (Affix.) As, up to, according to, in proportion to, as much as, as far as. మీకుతోచినకొద్ది as much as you think proper. సమయముకొద్ది మనిషి a timeserver. వాని బలము కొద్దిచేసినాడు he did it as well as he could. కొద్దిమంది a few people.
