First, preliminary, chief, principal. అగ్రజ్యా (in astron.) the sine of the amplitude. అగ్రభాగము (astron.) degree of amplitude. అగ్రసారము a compendious method of counting immense numbers. అగ్రాంశువు the end of a ray of light, the focal point. జిహ్వాగ్రము the tip of the tongue. Similarly నాసికాగ్రము, నఖాగ్రము, &c. అగ్రగణ్యము adj. Estimable, conspicuous. శ్రేష్ఠమైన, అగ్రగణ్యుడు n. A chief, a leader. మొదట నెంచదగినవాడు అగ్రజంఘము the forepart of the thigh. అగ్రజన్ముడు n. A brahmin. Elder brother. అగ్రజుడు n. An elder brother. అన్న. అగ్రణి n. A leader.

(p. 257) kalaśamu kalaṣamu. [Skt.] n. A vase, flagon, or water pot: కుండ. the gilt ornament on the pinnacle of a pagoda or tower. In palmistry, కలశరేఖలు certain lines in the palm of the hand. A. v. 31. కలశమునిలుపు or కలశముపెట్టు or కలశస్థాపనముచేయు the preliminary rite of solemnly placing a vase. కలశపూజ the adoration paid to that vessel, being the principal rite in all religious celebrations. కలశాబ్ధి kalaṣ-ābdhi n. The ocean of milk. కలశబ్ధిజ the goddess Lakshmi. కలశి kalaṣi. n. A pot. కుండ. కలశీసుతుడు or కలశీసంభవుడు The 'Vase-born' An epithet or Agastya, who was born, like Orion, in a pot. A. v. 107.

The exordium, prelude, prologue dedication, or praise of a deity, recited in benedictory verses at the commencement of a religious ceremony or poem. నాందీ యాగము the opening rite. Anand. vi. 1. The opening benedictory verses in a drama. నాటకప్రథమాంగము, మొదలుపెట్టడము. నాందీకరుడు or నాందివాది nāndī-karuḍu. n. One who pronounces the benediction. ఆశీర్వాదముచేయువాడు.

(p. 761) pīṭhamu pīṭhamu. [Skt.] n. A seat. The 'chair,' diocese, or see of a Guru. పీఠస్థుడు one who sits on a seat or throne, i.e., a Guru. పీఠమర్ధుడు or పీఠమర్దకుడు pīṭha-marduḍu n. A lover. పీఠి pīṭhi. Same as పీఠము. పీఠిక pīṭhika. n. A high seat. ఉత్కృష్టపీషము. A preface, preamble, preliminary note.

A preliminary ceremony. Also used for the ceremony performed at the consummation of marriage.

(p. 830) pratiṣṭha pratishṭha. [Skt.] n. Staying, standing, నిలుపుట. స్థితి. Fame, celebrity. కీర్తి. Consceration, dedication. స్తంభప్రతిష్ఠ setting up a pillar as a preliminary to a wedding, &c. దేవాలయప్రతిష్ఠచేయు to consecrate a temple. ప్రతిష్ఠించు pratishṭhinṭsu. v. a. To establish permanently or firmly, to dedicate, శాశ్వతముగా నిలుపు, స్థాపించు. 'యౌవరాజ్య పట్టంబునకు నంగదుంబ్రతిష్ఠించి.' R. v. 326. ప్రతిష్ఠితము pratishṭhitamu. adj. Firmly or permanently established, dedicated.
